Red Dead Redemption 2 Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego Walkthrough

October 27, 2018 by Jack McBastard 1 Comment

Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego is the 9th main story mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego Main Quest including all Gold Medals for 100% completion.

Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego is unlocked when you complete Polite Society, Valentine Style.

Quest Giver: Hosea
Chapter: 2
Region: New Hanover

Gold Medal Requirements:

  • Track the bear within 1 minute 30 seconds
  • Shoot the bear at least 6 times
  • Complete within 12 minutes

Starting Location: Horseshoe Overlook, New Hanover

Follow Hosea

  • GOLD MEDAL: Complete within 12 minutes

Hosea wants to go hunting a massive bear he saw while scouting. On the way, you will get a tutorial on managing your horses at the stable, and moving your saddle from one horse to another to claim ownership. You will have to be on the ball to complete all of these tasks within the 12 minutes in order to meet the gold medal requirements. Once you’ve moved your saddle to Hosea’s horse for sale, get on the horse and head for Valentine.

When you reach the stable, skip the cutscene and sell or stable your horse. Buy the cheapest horse and back out of the menu as quickly as possible so that Hosea can continue leading you to the hunting site.

Along the way, Hosea will ask you to hunt a rabbit. Quickly track and shoot a rabbit with a rifle. It doesn’t matter the quality of the shot, so don’t waste a lot of time lining up a shot. Take the rabbit back to Hosea, and he will tell you to set up camp and you will cook the rabbit for dinner. Go through the camping and crafting tutorial. After you’ve crafted and eaten one, back out and then sleep until morning.

When you wake up, Hosea will tell you to craft a few Potent Predator Bait. Once you’ve made them, get on your horse and follow Hosea yet again, and this time you will finally reach your destination.

Track the Legendary Bear

  • GOLD MEDAL: Complete within 12 minutes

Hosea will tell you to look around for clues. Activate Eagle Eye and look for a golden glow that indicates a special object.

Go over and investigate the clue, and it will reveal the trail of the Legendary Bear. Don’t bother being stealthy, run along the trail switching back and forth from Eagle Eye until you find the next gold clue. Investigate it, then run for the next clue. The trail after the third clue will go cold, and Hosea will ask if you should split up or use bait. Use the bait and go back behind some rocks.

After a few seconds, Hosea will go to check on the bait, go back and investigate the Predator Bait to trigger a cinematic. The bear will attack, and you will immediately go into Dead Eye mode.

  • GOLD MEDAL: Shoot the bear at least 6 times

Count carefully. If you have your revolver out, it should be easy to make sure at least 6 bullets hit during Dead Eye. If you don’t, you’ll have to chase the bear until you make up the difference. Again, count carefully. Return to Hosea after the bear runs away, and skip the cinematic again. Choose stay here, and the mission will be completed.

If you’ve moved fast enough, and skipped the cinematics, you should have completed the mission within 12 minutes. It’s a tight timeline, so it may take a few tries to meet that deadline.

This finishes Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego main mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. Now the next quest Paying a Social Call starts.

I went as fast as I could the first time with this and I was a few minutes over the allotted time. Rockstar went above and beyond to make this achievement a royal pain, but I’ve come too far to stop now! Thank you for all of your tips and strategies.
