ACO: The Hidden Ones – Shadows of the Scarab Side Quest Walkthrough

January 28, 2018 by dalailama1989 7 Comments

Shadows of the Scarab is a Side Quest in Assassin’s Creed Origins – The Hidden Ones DLC. This walkthrough shows how to complete the quest.

Recommended Level: 45
Region: Klysma Nome
Requirement: having finished The Land of Turquoise
Reward: 20.000 XP
Trophy: 1/2 missions for :silver: New Recruits

Objectives:

  • Assassinate the Shadows of the Scarab
  • Find who is behind the bounty contract
  • Fight Kawab
  • Reason with Kawab

A small child near the original Bureau talks something about bounty hunters – this makes Bayek curious and he’ll talk to him.

It turns out there is a price on Bayek’s head and there are hunters on their way to kill him – much like the Phylakes’ from the main game.
These two hunters are high-leveled and are quite tough. If you have experience with the Phylakes from the main game, you’ll know that you should face them around the same level in order to deal any damage at all.
One hunter will roam the north, one is found in the south. Their location varies, as they are travelling around. They can be seen by a red helmet-symbol, like can be seen below.

Very much depending on where you will meet them, different strategies might be beneficial. Shooting at them with powerful bows and setting them on fire is generelly a good idea. Overpower attacks from the ground or while horseback will do the trick as well. Just be sure to have full ammo, before tackling either one of them and you should be fine.

Once you have killed them, you need to confirm the kill – just like any other boss fight. After finishing the second hunter, Bayek will find a contract on him and is curious who is behind this.
Now we have to travel to the south into the desert.

There will be a few clues along the way and you will find a camp. To the south of it is the ultimate clue – a gravestone from the Scarab, one of the people Bayek has killed during the main game’s story. The one behind this contract is Kawab, the son of the Scarab.

The following fist-fight can be the hardest battle one of this whole DLC, if you don’t know about Kawab’s attack-pattern.
You should be very defensive in this fight and dodge :square: at all times. About every fifth of his attacks is different. He will charge and sprint towards you to perform a dropkick. Dodge in the last second and he will lie down on the ground for about two seconds. This is the time when you should hit him about twice and retreat until he does the same again. See pictures below for a reference of this attack-pattern:

Wait until your overpower-attack :r1: + :r2: is fully charged and use it to perform a sweet dropkick yourself.

Eventually, you will take him down after roughly five minutes. He’ll explain his motive and begs to finish him. Bayek has another idea and wants to recruit the lost boy – who undeniably is a good fighter – for the brotherhood.

This is the biggest s$&@ bag of a sequence in the entire game. Bayek, unlike every other foe, can’t lock on in this fight and in fact, targeting doesn’t function at all, it seems. This is one of those moments in gaming, typical of lesser quality games (or, 3rd party developers working on parts to a bigger release), where, in lieu of a compelling plot line or any real reason to continue playing, the development team sticks in a foe/event so unreasonable it takes hours/days/whatever to overcome it, meanwhile, the entire experience of the game suffers because of that one “thing” that causes the player to never want to repeat the experience. A shame, really.

I just now did this mission, June 29th, and you can most definitely lock on. Not sure when it would have been patched.

This is the most miserable and ridiculous boss fight in the game. Even following this supposed pattern it’s 10 minutes of dodge-dodge-dodge and hope the RNG is on your side.

I couldn’t lock on. In fact I couldn’t touch him. I died so many times, I almost quit the game permanently. I gave it 1 last try and scraped out a win. It sucks and isn’t fun or enjoyable. Reminds me of ff7 final boss, sucked.

So I broke mine I guess and can’t get this hidden trophy because I killed the shadows of the scarab before completing the mission itself. ? ??

I’m mostly pissed that I’ve complete rise of shaqilat and shadows of the scarab and haven’t received the trophy for it. And also kill Tacito, Ptahmose, and Ampelius and can’t get that trophy either >:|
