Introduction
Welcome to the Alan Wake 2 Trophy Guide! Alan Wake is back, and this time with a second playable character. You will play as both Alan Wake and Saga Anderson, each with a set of 9 chapters to complete.
In order to get Platinum, you will need to complete the game on any difficulty, collect most of the collectibles (some types only require one while others aren’t required at all) and complete several miscellaneous and combat-related trophies. While the game is chapter-based, it is also semi-open world. Except for some missable Collectibles (1 Commerical as Saga and 4 Videos as Alan) you can do everything once you reach the Point of No Return. It is recommended that you collect everything as you progress, if you don’t grab one of the missable items you’d need another playthrough. There is no Chapter Select in this game. Keep Manual Saves in alternating slots from time to time, this way if something goes wrong you have a save to go back to.
How Chapters Work
The chapters in this work a little different than how you would expect them to. Both characters have their own set of chapters, Saga has chapters labeled “Return” and Alan has chapters labeled “Initiation”. Both have 9 chapters, and after completing the first 5 chapters (Return 1-2, Initiation 1-3), you will unlock the ability to swap between characters at will to progress their stories in any order. Because of this there is no traditional fixed chapter order.
The chapters are also longer than their trophies imply and they have different names in-game than in the trophy list. The trophy for completing a chapter will generally unlock after doing a certain story segment, but the next chapter won’t actually start until you reach the location for the next chapter. For example you can defeat a boss in Return 2 and the trophy for completing the chapter will unlock, but you will still be on Return 2 until you actually leave the area. This guide is structured by the in-game chapters as per the naming on the save game.
Step 1: Play through the game until completing Initiation 3: Haunting
Start the game on any difficulty and play through the first 5 chapters. Both playable characters (Saga and Wake) will have 9 chapters each, Saga’s chapters will be called “Return” and Alan’s chapters will be called “Initiation”. These first five chapters will progress linearly. While playing, you will want to collect everything in these chapters, refer to » Alan Wake 2 Collectible Guide.
It is recommended that you collect everything as you progress as to not forget the missable collectibles.
Once you complete Initiation 3: Haunting, you will unlock the ability to swap between Wake and Saga in Break Rooms. From this point onward their chapters can be played in any order.
Step 2: Play through the game until the Point of No Return
Now that you have unlocked the ability to swap between characters, you can progress however you choose. It’s recommended you stick with the order outlined in the Alan Wake 2 Collectible Guide to make it easier to follow.
At the end of Return 6: Scratch, you will be prompted with a Point of No Return and forced to save to continue past it. If there’s anything you haven’t collected, make sure to do it before advancing past the Point of No Return. Do note that it is permanently night time at this point which makes navigation a bit harder.
For Alan, the Point of No Return is at the end of Initiation 8: Zane’s Film, however this does not prompt you or give a chance to save, it will simply swap you back over to Saga and you won’t be able to continue as Alan until you progress past Saga’s Point of No Return. For this reason you will want to make sure you’ve completed anything as Alan before reaching this point. There are 4 missable Writer’s Journey videos for Alan in Initiation 4: We Sing, Initiation 5: Room 665, Initiation 7: Masks, Initiation 8: Zane’s Film, so make sure to get these when they’re first available.
Step 3: Complete the game
Once you are done collecting everything with both characters and have reached their respective Points of No Return, make a manual save and continue past it. Don’t overwrite this manual save in case you need to return to do anything. The rest of the game can be done with just the autosave and quick saves. From this point forward there is only one collectible in Return 8: Deerfest. Beyond this you can simply focus on finishing the game. Once you finish the game, there will be no Chapter Select or New Game Plus options, so revert back to your pre-Point of No Return save if you missed anything.

Escape its Gravity Use a Hand Flare to escape an enemy Grapple |
||
Hand Flares are a consumable item you can find throughout the game. Whenever enemies are close to you, they can sometimes grapple you instead of attacking you normally. When they grapple you, if you have a Hand Flare in your inventory then you will get a prompt to use it with . There is no real way to guarantee an enemy will grapple you, so the best way to do this is to save at a break room near some enemies and stand around in front of them until one grapples you, reload if needed. Make sure you have a Hand Flare in your inventory for this.
This is the Moment Dodge at the last minute to avoid an enemy attack |
||
You can dodge enemy attacks by pressing . If you do this just before the enemy attack hits you, you will get a perfect dodge which will stumble the enemy, allowing for you to get some attacks on them. The timing for this is quite strict on regular Taken enemies, however it appears to have more leniency against Taken Wolves, which you will encounter semi-regularly. Whenever you find a wolf (or a regular Taken if you want to do it on them), stand around and wait for them to attack you and dodge as late as you can. If need be you can save at a break room to try this, however as long as you actively dodge enemy attacks you will likely get this naturally.
Not the Last Pick up the first Manuscript Page |
||
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. Unlocks in Return 1: Invitation, you have to pick up the page as part of the story. There are many manuscript pages throughout the game, but you do not need to collect them all.
Shining in the Night Ignite a Hand Flare to keep enemies at bay |
||
Hand Flares are a consumable item you can find throughout the game. When ignited, nearby enemies will back away, and you can also throw it at enemies. Simply ignite a Hand Flare whenever an enemy is nearby.

Chased the Source Destroy a Source Point |
||
Source Points are the red glowing weak points on Taken enemies. These weak points are in their heart and they are very visible by their red glow. First, burn away the enemy’s darkness shield by aiming the flashlight at them and pressing . Then shoot the red glowing weak point to unlock the trophy. The first opportunity is in Chapter 3 – Return 2: The Heart, when encountering the first Taken enemy in the General Store (story-related).

Whenever they are about to dash, use a Flashlight Boost with to stop them in their tracks. It may take a few attempts at doing this, so it is worth saving at a Break Room before attempting it as it can drain your batteries quickly.
Growing Stronger Upgrade any weapon once |
||
See All Smiles . | ||
All Smiles Fully upgrade a single weapon |
||
*MISSABLE – there aren’t enough upgrades to buy everything so you could get locked out of this if you spread upgrades across different weapons. Put all upgrades into one weapon until you get this*
Weapons can be upgraded as Saga by collecting Manuscript Fragments from opening Lunch Boxes, and as Alan by collecting Words of War from specific Word of Power spirals. You cannot fully upgrade all weapons, as there are not enough Manuscript Fragments/Words of War to do this. Therefore you will want to make sure you fully upgrade at least one weapon, instead of spreading out the upgrades across all weapons and leaving them all short. Each weapon can have 3 upgrades. As Saga, there are enough Manuscript Fragments to fully upgrade 1 weapon and get 3 of the 4 other weapons to level 2. It is best to avoid upgrading the Sawed-Off Shotgun as you will replace this later, whereas the other weapons have no counterparts. |
||

||
The Crossbow can be obtained with Saga in Watery in Return 3: Local Girl. Do note that after charging it, the shot will release after a few seconds.
Shift in Reality Complete all Nursery Rhyme puzzles |

Lunch Boxes are small Alex Casey boxes surrounded by colourful knitted objects to indicate their location. These will reward Manuscript Fragments, which can be used to upgrade Saga’s weapons. Cult Stashes can be marked on the map by viewing Stash Maps in Return 3: Local Girl, but you cannot mark Lunch Box locations the same way.
Coffee-Themed Fun Shoot Mr. Drippy or any other cardboard cutout in Coffee World |

Is there a way to reach out to the Devs about the glitched trophy? I know you have done so before
DicloniusGames says
If you mean the Koskela Brothers trophy, I’m having the same issue and it’s the only trophy I need for the platinum and the only commercial I need is the Coffee World one in the Local Girl chapter.
cache says
I wonder if the “All Accounted For” trophy is only bugged on consoles because on the Epic Games Store on PC it says 5% of people have that achievement.
PhantomFear94 says
Hope you all enjoyed, I know you’re seen as content creators but I do always hope that PowerPyx and/or the team members writing it like the games you play for our benefit. Thank you.
The reviews look great and this looks mind-blowingly good to me.
Anonymous says
Thank you for the trophy guide. If that trophy for finding all weapons for both characters is really bugged, then hopefully that gets fixed as soon as possible. This game having an easy Platinum trophy and it taking 15-25 hours to earn, sounds good to me, but this AAA game not having a physical edition is a shame and means I have no interest in playing it any time soon (unless it comes to PS Plus or the digital version is so cheap, that I might as well just buy it). Also, it’s weird that this game has so many trophies, which has lead to it not having a single Gold trophy and only 1 Silver trophy.
Finch says
I totally agree. It really is mind boggling why they decided not to release a physical version of the game. Hopefully in a few months they’ll do it.
Noah says
Honestly just sad this is another easy mind numbing platinum. Few developers now want to even challenge players anymore.
Rob says
I welcome it. Platinum should entail 100% competition. Not everybody enjoys soul crushing difficulties.
James says
I agree with Rob. Trophies should encourage you to explore all that the game has to offer and encourage you to try things that would not have been tried without them. Pointless challenges just for the sake of a trophy offer no benefit in my opinion and are frankly just disappointing if you really like the game since your only options are to kill a game you like in pursuit of something stupidly difficult or to give up on the trophy list and leave it at a low percentage.
KilluaSumisu says
I totally agree with Noah… This is becoming just a completion thing. The Plat is worth nothing…
Crosvale says
As usual, huge thanks for this guide before day 1! Amazing work you guys do!
Tox93 says
Will be waiting for bugged trophies to be fixed!
Killer says
Must play part 1 to understand the story?
CptObvious says
You need more than just that. To actually understand everything, you need to play Alan Wake 1 and its DLCs, as well as Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Control, and Control’s AWE DLC. There’s some supplementary material like the Bright Falls mini-series, but that stuff isn’t as necessary. The game also has some very vague, very minor references to Quantum Break, but since that game is owned by Microsoft Studios, it isn’t part of the Remedy-verse, so it’s not needed.
MKDevotee says
Last night they pushed an update right before the release of the game. I’m curious if that has fixed the All Accounted For trophy issue. I’m still working on the Spider-Man 2 platinum, so I’d rather wait before jumping into this one.
Archavia says
The trophy is showing as 0.1% on NA version now after the patch so either it was fixed to some degree or there’s something hidden I’ve missed. I’ve tried picking up the last weapon again with the new patch to no avail, so it may be that all weapons need to be picked up on a new save, or it’s triggered some other way. Needs a bit of testing.
Danba says
I think there is a softlock in the game. Currently at the cinema and I cannot line up the echoes. No perspective makes it possible, there is a locked door, and nothing more.
Archavia says
My friend had this issue when playing on the previous patch, he started his playthrough again and was fine when he got to that point again but was on the latest patch. So I’m not sure if that was a weird bug on that specific patch, or if it can happen randomly on any patch. If your game isn’t updated make sure to do so, and maybe try revert to an earlier save before the cinema if you have one.
Danba says
I’m currently on the newest patch, and only have a save point before going into the car wash. Replayed it multiple times (before and after the patch today) and it still has the bug. Same with a friend of mine, we both play on PS5.
Miles says
I would like to point out that in the in-game tutorial, it is said that the perfect dodge only counts when dodging a charge attack (not sure it is called this way because I’m not using the English version). So dodging the charge of wolves is quite easy to get that trophy but other kinds of enemies may not charge so often.
I got this trophy after finishing Nursery Rhyme Puzzle 5 at Return 3: Local Girl. An auto-save is triggered after finishing that puzzle and two wolves respawn.
Eloi says
Hi!
Thanks for this as always.
Question for everyone: you mention that in Saga’s point of no return (end of Return 5), you can go back and collect everything you have left from Bright Falls and Cauldron lake and such. But that “it is permanently nighttime at that point, which makes it harder to navigate”. I assume this means there’s enemies everywhere hehe.
Does anyone know which is the closest daytime moment to the point of no return? I’d rather get most of my collectibles then hehe.
Thanks! Currently starting Initiation 1 and loving the game.
Archavia says
Best time to explore if you don’t want night time is after beating the boss at the Nursing Home, as it’ll be sunset but not dark, and you’ll have removed flooding/have boltcutters so can do everything (except for Return 6 stuff).
Aleks says
Shouldn’t the “All Smiles” trophy be marked as missable? If you spread your upgrades out across all weapons and run out of manuscript fragments, you’d need to start another playthrough, right? At least until Remedy adds NG+
h4m says
I just got screwed by this. I agree, this should be added to the missables list. I didn’t read the rest of the trophy guide to minimize spoilers of any sort, just what was on the missables.
I don’t have any save games far back enough with manuscript fragments to spend. I’m locked out of this trophy now.

Yeah, came here to say this. Figured there would be enough fragments because the trophy wasn’t marked as missable but here I am without enough fragments to max out a single weapon. Should absolutely list this one as missable.

Gone for good trophy, is there any specific location for this trophy, I just can’t seem to figure it out. And it’s my last trophy for the platinum. Anyone can help??
Jojo says
Nvm just got the trophy. Seemed to be bugged at first for me. I got my platinum 329!!
4ipuxa says
Did the plat. Overall its easy one.
Didnt enjoy the ending one bit, plus a hint for a Sequel.

“This is the Moment” is missable. It won´t work woth normal enemys. (Tried it hundred of times) It only works with wolves but i couldn´t find some after i killed all of them. I had to start over…
InnesJack says
In general, What’s the best weapon to fully upgrade early doors / once you have enough fragments
InnesJack says
I have been playing the game in the order outlined within the collectible guide. I’ve just finished Return 7: Summoning which then automatically switches you back to playing Alan’s story Initiation 4: We Sing. The trophies ‘Filled with Rage’ & ‘Rock n’ Roll, Baby’ did not pop before this character switch. I assume / hope these will pop when the game puts me back in control of Saga near the end? Please advise, i would really appreciate confirmation
Corey says
Same happened for me. Wondering the same thing.
ImAPirateSoSueMe says
The same just happened to me, I immediately came here to see if it happened to anyone else. Ugh.
InnesJack says
Sorry, please ignore my previous question. Both trophies popped after I completed Initiation 9: Gone. Sorry for the dumb question
Drew says
Saga needs to make a plan. I encounter the game-breaking bug which denies me progress said patched i can confirm is not patched
Edelcast says
Anyone have a save before the “I’ll find you” achievement? For Epic games on PC.
It bugged out for me and isn’t unlocked on my account despite the fact I did it and it even popped on my overlay when I got it. But no dice.
I already have the rest and no save before getting the father doll.
I even have the Shift in Reality that can’t be got without all the dolls. But no cheevo for all the dolls. :/

It doesnt track the Koskela Brother Commercial 2 – Coffee World anymore after the newest Update 1.00.12 of the Game on PS5. Help?
Rob says
I am having this issue as well. Submitted a report, hopefully it will get fixed!
Rods-Spy says
Same here.
Seth says
I have seen people have got the TV ad trophy but for me it bugged on psnprofs it say people have got it today
Enio says
This game is so full of bugs! Got an answer from support saying they are working in the fix about the Koskela Brothers video. Right now I’m near the game’s end, and while getting the last commercial the trophy doesn’t pop (of course), but if you press the trackpad the game kind of freezes and you have to load from a save.
Enio says
by the way, I think it’s worth mentioning in the guide that the platinum is blocked in v.1.0.12
Zengaku says
just want to comment here that as of version 1.000.012 getting the Kolselka commercial trophy is imposssible since in Return 3 the game will not recognize that you collected the coffee world commercial therefore making getting the Platinum trophy impossible unless you managed to get that specfic trophy before the update was pushed through
Yan says
Coffee World Koskela ad is still bugged. This is ridiculous. Can’t get the platinum trophy because of one glitched collectible.
Zengaku says
New Game + patch is coming Monday Decemeber 11 and in it they said it will also fix a number of bugs so hopefully the coffee world commercial bug will be fixed in it
