Days Gone contains 37 Hordes. This guide shows all Days Gone Horde Locations. They are the largest crows of Freakers in the game. Clearing out the Hordes awards you with money and trust for the camp in the region. It also gives you a lot of XP to buy new skills. This makes hordes the ideal side activity to unlock all 45 skills and reach trust level 3 with all camps.
After the story they all get marked on the map automatically. By then you’ll also have better gear and skills. It’s best to keep them until the endgame.
The hordes get bigger with each region. This means the first and second region have relatively small hordes. The third region has medium-sized hordes. The fifth and sixth region have the largest hordes consisting of hundreds of Freakers.
The best way to take down hordes is with the Chicago Chopper gun. You can buy it from the 5th camp “Wizard Island”. It’s an Assault Rifle that kills Freakers in a single hit and has a lot of ammo. Grenades and other explosives are also great to reduce bigger hordes. You can buy grenades from merchants in camps with high trust.
Below the general horde areas are marked on the map (how they are marked automatically after the story). Do note that hordes move around. At day they will hide in a cave. At night they will roam around. This means they’re never at a fixed place so consider these general spawn zones. At night just drive around and increase the volume to hear them from afar. At day look for cave entrances.
Region 1: Cascade – 8 Hordes
Region 2: Belknap – 7 Hordes
Region 3: Lost Lake – 6 Hordes
Region 4: Iron Butte – 0 Hordes
- No Hordes in this region
Region 5: Crater Lake – 3 Hordes
Region 6: Highway 97 – 13 Hordes
(Horde 12 is inside the cave of a Marauder Camp)

Highway 97 has 13 but only 12 of them are marked, where is the last one???
Matt says
It’s right under 12
Azhrei says
That’sa little vague Matt…. I’ve got the same thing. I’ve killed about 4 before post-game, now it shows 4/13, so there’s 9 left. But there’s only 8 other markers. It’s right under 12…. so which one’s the 12th lol… and do you mean one’s hidden?
Weasel says
For me horde at Cascade at top right never spawns. It doesnt even show for me on the map.
Mubba says
Same thing happen to me :/
HordeKiller says
I took that horde out before the end where it gives an icon for their locations. just fast travel to the closest checkpoint sleep twice (24 hours minimum) and go back during the day. this worked for me
Kachinna says
That horde unlocked after talking to O’Brian for the last time.
Ice21 says
Well I ran into one in highway 97 between 5 & 6. On that highway head south during night time. They’re one a bridge.
Guil says
Does the sawmill horde counts towards the trophy? I took it out earlier in the game and now when I reached the mission that I was supposed to take them out it went straight to the cutscene, and I checked the region check-list it shows 0/6 hordes taken out
I really hope this is not a glitch that’ll prevent me of getting this trophy ?
PowerPyx says
I had to kill Sawmill horde as part of a story mission at the very end of the game. Maybe it respawns and you have to kill it again for story purposes. Just a theory, not 100% sure as I didn’t kill any hordes till the story wanted me to.
The trophy for killing a horde is unmissable because you have to kill many of them during the story.
Guil says
PowerPyx when I took out that horde before the actual mission there was no XP/trust increased screen I just got a lot of bounties
Once I reached the mission when I get to the sawmill to take out the horde it goes straight to the cutscne of boozer arriving with the truck
But I’m afraid it glitched somehow because in my map is showing only 4 hordelocations for that region (I already took one out) and is 6 in total for that region
It’ll be really bad if that happened
Calypso says
It would make this a lot better if you could mark each horde with their name so we can compare with the horde killer story line and know for sure which ones we already got
Marcus Lundgren says
Apart from achieving 100% completion of the game, is there any point in killing all the hordes? I’ve got the platinum trophy and I’ve killed half of the hordes. But now fatigue is starting to set in. So do you get some secret mission or reward for going through with this repetitive business, or is it just something for hardcore fans to do?
MetaphysicalMojo says
Cool weapon and skins
Carlos Mendez says
There is a horde in iron butte in the area that looks like chop down trees but it’s a burial site right above the flooded area but don’t know if it counts towards horde percentage.
Bennydajeta says
Yeah I found that one too and it was a decent horde too!!
I never got a horde killer banner for finishing it either.
I had the same problem when I did the saw mill horde no recognition of the horde being done and it hasn’t counted it!
Jimmy says
For me first horde at crater lake wasn’t exist
Anyone knows why?
Jonathon Worner says
I’ve killed all the known hordes shown on the map, only have 98% completed. Please tell me where this “hidden horde” is found so I can kill it, and most likely get a Trophy?
