Death Stranding has 56 Memory Chip Locations (Collectibles). Finding all of them unlocks the trophy Fount of Knowledge & A Thirst for Knowledge. Memory Chip #31 is also required for a fabrication plan (trophy “Homo Faber”).
None of the Memory Chips are missable! You can find all of them after the story in free-roam. You can see which collectibles have been found and which are missing by pressing Options-Button > Left > Data > Memory Chips. If you found it, it will have a key icon on it. You still need to decrypt the chips by bringing them to a terminal! Only after decrypting them at a terminal the trophy will unlock!
Before you start collecting the Chips here are a few important things to know:
- Finish the Story first and build out a zipline network as soon as you unlock PCC Lvl. 2. The ziplines make it quick to reach any place.
- Level up all facilities to 5 Stars (trophy “Best Beloved”). Make sure you sleep in a private room after you leveled up all facilities and read through all of their emails! Leveling up facilities grants you new emails (after sleeping to pass time). Reading those emails makes some specific Collectibles spawn on the map! You can’t find some collectibles without leveling up their respective facilities first (pointed out in the text guide and video guide below).
If you find a chip during the story or while leveling facilities go ahead and pick it up. This will save you some backtracking later.
Recommended Use
- Use the map to see what is closest together and plan the most effective route.
- Then refer to the number in the guide below to see the zoomed-in map location and area screenshot.
- You can also follow the video guide which shows them in the order they are closest together.
- If an item is not there, get all facilities to 5 stars and read all emails first.

Does memory chip 42 have a specific trigger as well? I’ve been there a few times and haven’t been able to find anything.
MikkDC says
You more than likely got it by now but I got this one after getting an email from George Baton (Waystation West of Capital Knot City) titled “A Strange Light At The Incinerator”.
Cheese says
Hi! I have problems getting a memory card number 14
I have already completed the game. All NPC completed up to 5 stars. All letters have been read (and slept after), but there is no memory card on the roof…
Yazdun says
Same problem
Fox says
Make sure you have opened and read all his emails.
Felipe says
Got them all and there’s nothing inside Higgs’ shelter (so i must have gotten his chip already) but I still don’t have the trophy…
Noxxender says
Anyone have any trouble getting 30 to spawn? I’m in the post game and I’ve done everything. Paleontologist is 5 star and I’ve rested in his shack, but I still haven’t gotten his email. Last thing I need for platinum 🙁
NIN00 says
I’m in the exact same spot. Post game, 5 stars, rested at his facility 10+ times, and it’s the very last thing I need for platinum. I’m not getting the email and the memory chip is not showing up.
NIN00 says
I figured it out. You have to keep making deliveries to the paleontologist even after he’s at 5 stars. Do one at a time to save time. After each one he’d give me more interviews and eventually a couple more emails, then I could get it. So even if you’re at 5 stars, just keep making deliveries to him.
Casey Ladner says
How many deliveries did you make after having 5 stars before you got the email?
Boe says
Got all the chip but the trophy wont pop. The last one is the fuse silica one I believe near crater on palenteologis. Any solution for this?
Boe says
My bad, it supposed to be 56 not 55 like the ingame nunber
Non Entity says
Just to say that you get 2 mails from Charles Khan about memory chips; ‘Something Glowing Down in the Crater’ is for 54 and ‘I Saw Another One of Those Glowing Things…..’ is for 14.
Just thought I’d mention it since I was looking everywhere for 14 at the Incinerator but then I completed a couple of deliveries for the waystation north of mountain knot and got a mail straight after mentioning something glowing at the incinerator.
Wyssis says
I’m having trouble with #43. I’ve beat the game, got all other memory chips, ranked capital knot city up to 5 stars and kept doing deliveries and rested several times. Still not getting any email. Only have 2 mails from Nick Easton in total.
Mom2d4 says
Sleep at the place Nick lives
StarGeeek says
I’m having trouble getting chip 55 to spawn In the South Knot City Ruins anyone know the trigger?
It’s my last trophy before Platinum and I’ve rested multiple times, read all emails and got all facilities to 5 stars… really frustrated can anyone help?
Deathstroke says
I am having a problem with Chip #30
I haven’t gotten a single email at all from the Paleontologist I’ve gone to every prepper in the central region and did all the orders for him and slept in the private room and still nothing. I’ve read and followed all the guides and nothing works.
Casey Ladner says
I am having such a problem with number 30…. I’ve been level 5 on him for awhile and I keep doing deliveries to him but I get no emails. Not one! Someone please help.
Fireofhaven says
I’m having the same problem. I’m starting to think its glitched. I’ve delivered way past the 5 * need both given and lost deliveries and he hasn’t emailed me to unlock the chip. it’s my last chip needed and I have the trophy for all areas joined the UCA with 5 *.
PowerPyx says
Not sure if this is a glitch, but I’d try making a few more deliveries to Paleontologist and sleep between each. Maybe this helps the game to realize the email is overdue. Worth a shot.
Normally, by the time you have 5 stars on every facility + read their emails, all the chips are obtainable.
sevonhorn88 says
You must redo the get the ammonite stuff deliv again, then you will get Sam Porter is the best email (lol) .. sleep with him.. it’ll appear when you go back after radaring.
Mariogor says
I have problem with chip #14
I got 5 stars everyone (I got the trophy) but Khan has sent me an email not for this chip but for another that is where the middle city used to be, so chip
#14 doesn’t spawn
Greg says
Has anyone figured this out yet? Having the same problem. This is the last thing I need before platinum. I have received and read email “I Saw Another One of Those Glowing Things…..”. I read on other forums that further email might be required. I’ve done every delivery to/from this waystation, but no more emails.
Greg says
Figured it out. There were some older emails from Khan that I didn’t read. After reading these and sleeping a couple of times, got a couple more emails. The chip appeared after that.
Greg says
BTW, thank you very much for the guide powerpyx. It is perfect as usual!
Chris Parker says
Dont know if it helps, I pulled over 200 hours play and half a million likes, just obsessively building and delivering, even dragging the story out (cpbert69473).
Sleeping helps to get the mails, but the common mistake made is that people just do the orders for the preppers when it’s all about delivering To them, either missions, lost cargo or other centers sending them stuff.
The first prepper and veteran porters are right arses with their stars so you’ll have to just keep plugging away.
Finally it’s very easy to miss the actual 5th star not being fully finished, just a couple of pixels blank, meaning you need another delivery, i had to go through mine carefully to find the ones I’d missed.
Happy hunting, and get some sleep in between!!
Luis Fabio says
Thank you so much for your help, you have my respect man! Cheer from Brazil!
Thiago says

How can I come back to Edge Knot after beat the game? I tried do the same way like chapter 8 but can’t reach the other side because there’s no BTs on the area…
Marked says
Fragile Jump. Easy.
Joseph Flynn says
Use watchtowers where possible.. chip locatations pop up much easier than scan..
Anne says
Thank you for the awesome guide! It helped me a lot!
Random Porter says
I deeply appreciate the effort you put into making this. There’s just no way I would have been able to get all the trophies without it.
