Welcome to the Elden Ring Walkthrough for the Crumbling Farum Azula region! This is the second last area of the game story-wise, and you aren’t able to reach the main part of this area until you set the Erdtree aflame at the Forge of Giants, at which point you are automatically transported here and can’t leave until you find at least one site of grace to rest at. It is a large destroyed area suspended around a giant tornado, full of Beastmen, Banished Knights, and Dragons. You need to make your way clockwise around the whole area to reach the boss at the end, which then triggers the destruction of Leyndell, so if you have any business left in the main city part make sure you complete it before you beat Maliketh.
For all other regions refer to Elden Ring Walkthrough.

Crumbling Beast Grave
After agreeing to set the Erdtree aflame at the Forge of Giants site of grace, you will immediately be teleported to a bridge in Crumbling Farum Azula. You will be blocked from leaving this area until you rest at your first site of grace, so that will be where you should head first.
Continue down the bridge towards the large structure ahead, then drop off the right side by the broken railing and jump down to the balcony below and go through the short hallway to the inner part of the wall.
Follow the stairs on the left side down to the lower level, then make your way to the next room. Watch out for all the Beastmen sitting on the ground, as they will start attacking when you get near them.
Continue through the next room, dealing with the couple more Beastmen, then in the next hallway watch on the left for a room where you can find the first site of grace for this area.
After resting here you can now fast travel again if needed, then continue down the hallway further. On the other side, there is a large open area stretching ahead. You are aiming to run to the far side where there is an open door on the left.
Halfway along the path a large dragon will appear to attack you. There are a number of dragons like this that are scattered around Farum Azula and aren’t considered named bosses. They all have similar attacks to Ancient Dragon Lansseax, summoning lightning from the sky and using it as like a physical sword to slash at you. Whenever they show up you can generally ignore them if you want as beating them is never required to progress, though each one will drop an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone when defeated.
Once you enter the building on the other side of the outside area you can find the next site of grace.
Crumbling Beast Grave Depths
Continue into the next room with the tables with the bones on them. Watch out for the two Beastmen when going through, one of them is hiding behind the middle table on the ground.
Continue through the door on the far side of the room, and you will enter another large room with stairs leading down to the left and right. Going to the left goes to a side area full of Wormface enemies, and doing to the right is where you need to go to progress. While progressing through the large room watch out for the Beastmen hiding around the pillars, as well as the one on the walkway above that will cast lightning magic to attack you.
If you want you can reach that walkway through the hallway on the right just before entering the large room.
You can pick up the Ancient Dragon Prayerbook from a body in the middle of the room, then continue out the door on the far side to find the next site of grace.
Tempest-Facing Balcony
Before continuing you can walk just past the broken railing towards the cliff to find a body where you can pick up the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing [4], allowing you to purchase Somber Smithing Stone [7] & [8].
You can then continue to the north, where you need to follow the path of floating rocks down to the lower large section of ruins to continue further.
Watch out in the areas ahead as there are a number of Beastmen skeletons, which you will need to hit on the ground again to kill if you aren’t using a holy weapon.
Continue following the path down to the lower area, going clockwise around the tempest in the center of the area.
Jump across to the building on the far side where you can find the next site of grace.
Dragon Temple
This next area leads to the first boss in the area you are required to progress. It is full of Banished Knights using various weapons, but you can generally deal with them all individually if you are careful about not progressing too far and alerting multiple at once. There are actually two routes you can take, the first one leading through the floor of the building ahead. Continue through the first hallway to find one Knight, then down a flight of stairs to an area with a hallway going left and right. Watch out for the second Knight that walks back and forth in this hallway.
The doorway ahead leads to a balcony above the boss room (which will be blocked off by a fog door you can’t walk through if you need to retry the boss fight). The easiest way to get to the boss fight is going down the hallway to the right, then heading down the stairs and through the doorway into the boss room.
If you want to take an alternate route to the boss room to reach a closer site of grace, you can return to the Dragon Temple site of grace and instead jump to the stairwell just below, then to the lower floor of the building.
Head through the hallway ahead, watching out for the one Knight walking back and forth, then enter the larger room ahead. There are two more Knights in here just standing around, then to continue you can head to the left side.
Jump down to the lower area, where you can then find the site of grace in the corner on the right.
Dragon Temple Transept
From this site of grace you can continue up the flight of stairs leading to the north to reach the boss room.
Godskin Duo
Reward: 170,000 Runes, Smithing Stone Miner’s Bell-Bearing [4], Ash of War: Blackflame Tornado
Godskin Duo is a mandatory story boss, consisting of two enemies that you must fight at the same time. There is one slim enemy that uses mostly spells and sometimes melee attacks, and a larger enemy that uses mostly melee and likes to roll around. They have a shared health bar. When one of them dies they will respawn after a short while. But damaging either of them will reduce their overall health at the bottom of the screen, so attack whoever is easier (the big enemies is easier to hit). Playing as a mage, you’ll want to use the same strategy as for Mohg, the Omen – get Comet Azur legendary spell, use the wondrous physick flask with Cerulean Hidden Tear (doesn’t consume mana for 10s), summon some Ashen Remains to distract the bosses, then shoot them with the Comet Azur for 10 seconds to take like 50-75% of their health. If you can line up both of them at the edge of the area you can get lucky and hit both of them simultaneously. Spawn your ashen spirits at one corner of the room, then head to the opposite corner and wait for both bosses to go to your ashes and get ready to shoot the Comet Azur Spell for massive damage. Finish them off by using whatever Pebble spells you have, use the 6 pillars around the room as cover and shoot the spells while peeking out of cover, then hide behind the next pillar. For melee chars it’s a bit trickier but there are other workarounds available – the Ash of War: Hoarfrost Stomp is perfect, it will create AoE ice damage on the ground and can hit both bosses through the pillars. Just stand behind a pillar and spam this. You get this Ash of War by killing the scarab (dung beetle) in the little lake south-east of Caria Manor, up the hill directly north from “The Ravine” site of grace in Liurnia region. Spam just these Ashes of War repeatedly with any build and it will be an easy fight, even after the nerf as it still hits the bosses through the pillars. Trying to fight the bosses legit would be one of the more annoying fights in the game.
Once you have defeated the bosses, you can activate the next site of grace at the front of the room.
Dragon Temple Altar
Continue through the hallway on the north to reach another outside destroyed area.
To continue you again need to work your way clockwise around the area, moving between the broken section of the structure.
To reach the lower area you can either take a slightly longer route around the left through where the enemies are, or you can jump to the floating pillar below to reach the next area.
Continuing down the next hallway with the dragon statue, watching out for the Beastmen walking around. Watch on the right just before where the enemy starts walking from for another doorway, then follow the floating path ahead to reach the structure across.
Head through the doorway across to reach an open area with a dragon corpse and a Crucible Knight standing by it. You can fight this Crucible Knight or ignore it if you want, it don’t block your progression.
Jump to the first platform behind where the dragon corpse is, then down to the next platforms and the rooftop ahead where you can find the next site of grace.
Dragon Temple Rooftop
Jump down to the walkway below near the tower. In the next area there will be a number of Falcons hanging around, and they will get in your way in the next area.
Look to the south off the balcony and you can spot another dragon ahead. This dragon will spot you immediately once you enter this area and makes progression rather annoying.
You need to head to where that dragon is to progress, but the dragon will constantly cast the area lightning at you while you are running to it, along with there being a number more falcons in the area that will attack as you make your way there.
Once you reach the dragon you can choose to ignore it try to take it out. This one starts with very little health, so if you can get off some spells you can take it out then it won’t reappear.
If you do decide to take it out (or manage to dodge its attacks well enough) you can pick up a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone from the gazebo structure directly behind it.
You can also head up to the raised area to the south with all the pillars on it, where you can find a phantom tree and obtain a Golden Seed.
To continue, head up the path leading to the west.
There will be some more Beastmen along the path to try and slow you down, then you need to walk across the fallen structure leading to the next area with the trees in front of the building.
Start heading into the building, but watch out because there will be two more Beastmen inside that you can’t see, not just the one standing facing the altar ahead.
Before continuing make sure to grab the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing [5] from the body by the altar, which will allow you to buy Somber Smithing Stone [9].
Follow the path out of the room and up the stairs, then take the elevator up to where you can find the final site of grace before the boss room.
Beside the Great Bridge
From this site of grace you can either go up the stairs ahead to reach the final boss of the area and progress the story, or you can turn around and go to the secret boss. First to go to the secret boss, take the elevator back down and go back to the outside of the building where the trees are. To the west of the platform (opposite the door) you can look over the edge and see some floating ruins below. Just off the edge there are some rocks that you can jump down to, then follow down to the floating ruins close to the tempest.
On the floating ruins walk into the middle of the spot on the floor with no bones and there will be a “Lie down” prompt, which when interacted with will teleport you to the Dragonlord Placidusax boss room.
If you’re trying to go to the final boss of the area, head up the stairs and outside from the site of grace. Turn to the left and climb the stairs to reach the large bridge leading to the boss room ahead.
Just before the boss door, there will be a Draconic Tree Sentinel waiting, the same as the one you had to fight to enter Leyndell. This one is optional though, and if you don’t want to fight it you can attempt to run past. You will need to do this every time you try the boss though, as there isn’t a closer start point to the boss than the prior site of grace.
Dragonlord Placidusax
Reward: 280,000 Runes, Remembrance of the Dragonlord
Dragonlord Placidusax is a two-headed dragon that uses mostly Lightning damage attacks. It has a lot of health but its attacks are slow and it leaves long breaks between attacks. The easiest way to victory is to summon Mimic Tear (ideally fully leveled up), then using a mage build spam Rock Sling at it from afar for the rest of the fight. It will get stunned by this from time to time. The only part you need to watch out for is when the dragon becomes invisible and starts flying. Look in the sky, it will show red electric clouds where it flies just before it starts its dive attack, then dodge sideways just before it lands. All other attacks you can dodge backward and spam the spell at it. It will also use a range of other attacks, including lighting beams on the ground (red lightning, get out of the area before it hits), a massive explosive AoE attack (run away), becoming invisible and hitting with lightning melee attacks (dodge back), yellow fire (run away). Just keep your distance and spam the spell, and the boss will mostly focus on your Mimic Tear ashen remains.
Beast Clergyman & Maliketh the Black Blade
Reward: 220,000 Runes, Remembrance of the Black Blade
NOTE: Once Maliketh is defeated it triggers the destruction of Leyndell, and the loss of any potential items that are in the main city area. If there is anything you wanted to pick up there (such as the missable Legendary weapon Bolt of Gransax) make sure to do it before fighting Maliketh.
Beast Clergyman & Maliketh, the Black Blade are one and the same boss consisting of 2 phases, taking on two different forms with different names throughout the fight. At exactly 50% health Beast Clergyman will transform into Maliketh, the Black Blade. As a mage, he is weak to Gravity Spells and easily stunned with it! Use the Rock Sling gravity spell & the Meteorite Staff (both found in Caelid in the big red lake around Street of Sages Ruins). This gravity spell will stun the boss after 4-5 repeated hits. As a melee character, this fight will rely heavily on dodging and it’s best to not have a heavy load (medium load is fine), so either have enough Endurance to bring down your Load Percentage or put on lighter armor. With heavy equipment load your stamina will drain too fast and your dodges will be too slow for this fight.
The first phase is fairly easy, he does use a mix of short-range melee attacks and some medium-range projectile attacks, as well as an AoE attack that summons rocks from the ground and brings them crashing back down. All of these are easily evaded by dodging sideways or hiding behind the pillars. Summon some strong Ashen Remains, ideally the Mimic Tear (and have them upgraded) to distract the boss. This will make the first half quite easy, and in the best case have your Ashen Remains survive until the start of the 2nd phase. With a mage simply spam the Rock Sling spell while your Ashes distract the boss, after 4-5 hits he will get stunned and you can take down his health pretty quick with this one spell. As a melee char, land a few quick hits while he focuses on your Ashes.
The real “fun” starts in the 2nd phase which is actually one of the harder boss phases in the game. Learning his move set and when to dodge is essential to survive, because a single combo can instantly kill you even with 99 Vigor and heavy armor. He hits very hard, reaches far, and is very jumpy. Ideally, your Ashes are still alive to distract him at the start, allowing you to get some quick damage in while he focuses on your Ashes. When he focuses on you, you’ll want to stay close to him to bait him into melee attacks. He will use those more often when you are close, they have fewer hits and are easier to dodge than his 5-hit ranged attack. Dodge his melee attacks and land a few hits, repeat. As a mage you’ll want to dodge backward to get some distance and use the Rock Sling spell again immediately after he misses his combo, hopefully stunning him, then you can spam Rock Sling for massive damage. When he does his ranged projectiles attack, he will throw 3 projectiles, followed by a sweep that deals two hits. You can hide behind pillars from the 3 projectiles or dodge each one sideways just before it hits. But the sweep he uses immediately after is really tricky as it cuts through the pillars and will damage you if you just stand there. You should do at least two dodges just before he hits with it, the reason being that he likes to do two spins when he lands which deals two hits. Dodge a couple of times, but make sure your first dodge is just before hit lands on the ground, dodging too early will get you hit. It takes a few tries to get the timing down. This double-sweep can instant-kill you if hit with two sweeps. Learning to dodge this move is annoying but crucial for survival. After he misses any combo you always have a short window to land some hits, be that melee or magic. Try not to lose many flasks during the 1st phase so you have plenty of health flasks left in the 2nd phase. Even as a mage bring mostly health flasks. You should also have found 30 Golden Seeds to get the max amount of 14 Flasks and found all Sacred Tears to reach maximum Flask level, to have an easier time here. The good thing is he doesn’t have super much health, just the 2nd phase is quite annoying and harder to dodge.
Once the boss is defeated you will be shown short cutscene, then be automatically transported back to Leyndell.
