The Admiral is a Side Quest in Far Cry 5. This walkthrough shows how to complete this Quest.
Region: Whitetail Mountains (Jacob’s Region)
Area: Clagett Bay
Quest Giver: Skylar Kohrs
Requirement: having finished Gone Fishin’
Reward: 200 RP, 1.450 $ & Wonderboy Fishing Rod
Objectives:
- Reach Clagett Bay
- Fish for The Admiral
After some preparation in the previous two quests from Skylar, now it is time for the big catch – The Admiral awaits.
Skylar was supposed to team with us to catch this fellow, but she was hurt by cultists earlier and can’t help us – so we are on our own.
But are we really? Because this one is extremely hard to catch with one of the two standard fishing rods, it is very helpful to start this quest in coop with a friend.
While you are fishing from the boat itself, your buddy can drive towards the fish and prevent your line from snapping. It still might take a few tries but it is way easier than doing it on your own.
After a while, we will be victorious and can take this big guy with us and present him to Skylar.
Teamwork, yay!
Our reward will be this sweet fishing rod, which will make the hard fishing spots for the final rod much easier.
This will conclude Skylar’s quest-line.

I just did this without the partner. I went to spot with the downed boat & aimed it at the back end of there. From there I used the bait “Basic Mayfly”.
Everytime the fish went left I went right & just gradually pulled it nearer, easing it toward the boat. I stood near the motors of the boat at the end & it got me from falling off.
Lastly, just keep him attached to your line long enough & eventually The Admiral will ease towards you & make it much easier to catch. By the way, I was doing this for an hour.

That is quite some endurance 🙂
After about an hour, we went ahead and tried out, if it works in coop and it made things so much more enjoyable 🙂

After 35 minutes, I didn’t catch this fucking fish, this quest is boring as fuck and useless.

I tried it alone and got it after 10/15min once I realised that I kept Reeling him in and tried it differently I finished from the second try.
The trick is to no always keep the “Reel In” putton pressed, when the reel turns yellow/orange stop holding it and just struggle with it by moving at the opposite direction with the mouse. When it turns green again, reel back in.

This. It took me 2 attempts and maybe 10 minutes (including a non-fish related death that forced me to sail back out to the spot). It’s really not that hard, and I think the second time I hooked it it might have been on the line for a minute tops, probably closer to 30 seconds- it went so quick I thought I had hooked a trout. You just can’t reel continuously. Occasionally you could have to stop fighting the fish completely for a second, or at least I did, but other than that this comment is spot on. The whole “get a friend and cheat” thing presented in this article is bullshit, and unnecessary.

Good to hear you guys didn’t have major problems. On patch 1.01 it was hard as balls, maybe they’ve nerfed it a bit 🙂

Only took three tries, about five minutes. Just drove the boat to the middle of the lake. Perhaps it was a bit easier because this was one of the last missions I did in the game.

The key here is, you CANNOT catch it on your first try,the longer you’ll make the struggle with it the easier it’ll be to catch on your second try, after struggling for couple of mins if you deliberately break the line, you’ll hear Skylar saying ‘he’s getting tired’ and on your second try you should be able to catch him easily, (around 30 secs) and use Mayfly bait.
Took me less than 3 mins, remember it’s not possible to get him on first try. That’s how they programmed it.Good luck

Took me 2 tries, with 5 minutes each. Caught the Admiral in the 2nd 5 minutes ?.
