Final Fantasy VII Remake has 20 of Chadley’s Battle Intel Reports. Completing all Battle Intel Reports unlocks the Intelligence Agent trophy. They are little side tasks that require taking certain actions in combat.
The reports are given to you by a character called Chadley. You first meet him in Chapter 3 as part of the story, which cannot be missed. You will then meet him again at multiple fixed points throughout the game (Chapter 3, 8, 9, 14, 16). See all of Chadley’s Locations below.
To view your progress press > Battle Intel. Because there is Chapter Select after the story nothing is missable. You will be able to go back after the story, to complete missing reports and give them to Chadley. Each completed Report makes available new Materia for purchase (from Chadley) and some unlock special boss fights that reward you with Summoning Materia.
Chadley’s Locations
You meet Chadley in the following Chapters and Places:
Chapter 3 – Sector 7 Slums (Residential Area):
Chapter 8 – Sector 5 Slums (Center District):
Chapter 9 – Sector 6 Slums (Wall Market):
Chapter 14 – Sector 5 Slums (Center District):
Chapter 16 – 63th Floor Upper Level (Combat Simulator Lounge), after beating first Combat Simulator Challenge:
Battle Intel Reports
Battle Intel Report 01: Monster Bio Pt. 1 – Condition: Assess 2 enemy types / Reward: Auto-Cure Materia
You automatically get the Assess Materia when talking to Chadley for the first time in Chapter 3 (story-related main objective). Press (Main Menu) > Materia & Equipment > to Set Materia. It’s called “Assess Materia” and has yellow color. During combat when you’ve build up 1 ATB bar press to open the Command Menu > Abilities > Assess. This lets you scan the enemy for its weaknesses. Repeat for 2 enemies. You can find plenty of enemies in Chapter 3 already, during side quests and in the Scrap Boulevard (dusty area to right of Chadley).
Battle Intel Report 02: Magic Elements Pt. 1 – Condition: Hit enemies vulnerable to fire, ice, or lightning using the appropriate magic (Number of attacks: 1 for each element) / Reward: Wind Materia
First you must get the Fire Materia (starting Materia for Cloud), Ice Materia (bought from Item Shop in Chapter 3), Lightning Materia (bought from Item Shop in Chapter 3). Use Assess on enemies to see their weaknesses (see Report 01). Then use the type of spell that they are weak against. Do this with all 3 of these elements. Usually humans are weak to fire, machines are weak to electricity, monsters are weak to ice.
Battle Intel Report 03: The Stagger Effect Pt. 1 – Condition: Use unique abilities on staggered enemies and charge the ATB gauge 10 times. / Reward: First Strike Materia
This is best done using Tifa. At the start of combat, press / to switch to Tifa. Attack an enemy with until it staggers (the yellow bar below the health fills up and the enemy gets stunned). While the enemy is staggered, attack with to fill Tifa’s ATB gauge from 1 to 2 full ATB segments. Repeat this 10 times to complete the report. The official condition description for this report is poorly worded, because you don’t use weapon abilities at all (abilities are what you’d select in the Command Menu and consumes ATB). For this you do NOT use abilities from the command menu. What you must use are the attacks AFTER the enemy has staggered and with the attack bring your ATB gauge from 1 to 2 ATB charges (the blue charges in bottom left of screen). There’s only 1 unique “ability” per character (not 10 like the condition would suggest). The “abilities” are: Cloud = Punisher Mode / Barret = Overcharge / Tifa = Whirling Uppercut / Aerith = Tempest. Cloud’s seems to be the hardest to get it to register. Better to play as Tifa for this. It’s best to switch to Normal difficulty (Pause Menu > System) because enemies won’t die so quickly. On easy the enemies might die before they go into stagger mode.
Battle Intel Report 04: The Stagger Effect Pt. 2 – Condition: Stagger 15 enemy types. / Reward: ATB Boost Materia
Staggering enemies happens when you’ve dealt enough damage to them. Then they become stunned and unable to move for a few seconds. Using the type of spell they are weak against puts them in stagger mode quickly. This will complete automatically, it’s unmissable throughout the story. It only counts different enemy types so you can’t farm it against the same enemy.
Battle Intel Report 05: Combat Simulation: Shiva – Condition: Defeat Shiva. / Reward: Shiva Summoning Materia
After completing the first 4 Reports, hand them all in to Chadley and you will unlock the Shiva VR Mission. In it you must defeat Shiva to unlock her as a summoning Materia.
Battle Intel Report 06: Monster Bio Pt. 2 – Condition: Assess 10 enemy types. / Reward: Steadfast Block Materia
Same as for Report 01, use Assess on 10 different enemy types.
Battle Intel Report 07: Magic Elements Pt. 2 – Condition: Exploit weaknesses of 15 enemy types. / Reward: Steal Materia
Same as for Report 02, use Materia Spells to exploit the element the enemy is weak against. Use Assess to see their weakness (Humans = Fire, Machines = Electricity, Monsters = Ice, Flying Creatures = Wind).
Battle Intel Report 08: The Manipulation Technique – Condition: Defeat 2 or more enemies with a single attack. / Reward: Provoke Materia
As Cloud hold down to do a sweeping attack. Sooner or later you will be powerful enough to kill weaker enemies in 1 single hit, just have them be close enough together that they both die from the same hit. This will certainly come automatically without triyng, don’t even worry about it.
Battle Intel Report 09: Monster Variants Pt. 1 – Condition: Defeat monsters of 3 unique varieties. / Reward: Synergy Materia
This will complete automatically throughout the story, don’t worry about it. Some enemies exist in multiple variants, you’ll encounter plenty of variants automatically in forced story encounters and side quests.
Battle Intel Report 10: Combat Simulation: Fat Chocobo – Condition: Defeat a fat chocobo. / Reward: Fat Chocobo Materia
After completing all the above Battle Reports, hand them in to Chadley to unlock a VR Mission against Fat Chocobo Boss. Defeat him to complete this.
Battle Intel Report 11: Monster Bio Pt. 3 – Condition: Assess 20 enemy types. / Reward: Item Master Materia
Same as Report 01.
Battle Intel Report 12: The Stagger Effect Pt. 3 – Condition: Increase stagger damage bonus to 200%. / Reward: Parry Materia
There are three ways to increase an enemy’s Stagger %. Using Tifa’s Chi abilities (her default attacks), will increase the % the higher her Chi level, with Whirling Uppercut being the lowest, Omnistrike the middle and Rise and Fall the highest. In order to use Omnistrike / Rise and Fall you must use Tifa’s Unbridled Strength ability which consumes 1ATB and upgrades her moves to cause more stagger increase. Secondly, the True Strike ability learned from Tifa’s 6th weapon, Purple Pain (obtained in Chapter 16), will also increase it by 30% with each use. It costs 1ATB charge. Lastly, Aerith’s Ray of Judgment will increase stagger damage % pretty significantly. You can easily get 200% stagger against VR mission bosses on Normal difficulty by just using Tifa’s Unbridled Strength ability + attacks. VR bosses have the longest stagger times.
Battle Intel Report 13: Refocus Analysis – Condition: Trigger Refocus 2 times. / Reward: ATB Assist Materia
Refocus is the starting Materia for Aerith when she joins your party. Automatic and unmissable from the story. Build up your ATB gauge until you can use limit break, then pick the Refocus limit break. Just make sure you got the Refocus Materia equipped.
Battle Intel Report 14: The Stagger Effect Pt. 4 – Condition: Stagger 40 enemy types. / Reward: ATB Stagger Materia
Same as Report 04.
Battle Intel Report 15: Combat Simulation Leviathan – Condition: Defeat Leviathan / Reward: Leviathan Summoning Materia
This unlocks after completing Report 12. Hand it in to Chadley and do his VR mission with the Leviathan boss.
Battle Intel Report 16: Monster Bio Pt. 4 – Condition: Assess 30 enemy types. / Reward: Enemy Skill Materia
Same as Report 01.
Battle Intel Report 17: Weapon Abilities – Condition: Acquire all 16 weapon abilities / Reward: Skill Master Materia
The official in-game text on the report says “all 16” weapon abilities, but there’s actually 24 in total. For this report you only need 16 though (so the word “all” is wrong and likely a translation error from Japanese). You must find 16 of 24 weapons and use their abilities in battle to reach maximum proficiency with all of them. See Final Fantasy 7 (VII) Remake – All Weapon Locations.
Battle Intel Report 18: MP Consumption – Condition: Master all 12 types of magic materia. / Reward: MP Absorption Materia
There are 12 types of Magic Materia total (the green colored Materia). See Final Fantasy 7 (VII) – All Materia Locations. Once you got them all, make sure you always have them equipped. No need to use them, just finishing a fight gives you AP towards all Materia you have equipped with everyone in the party. An easy way to farm this is after the story in Chapter Select, load up Chapter 9 and repeat Colosseum Matches on Classic Difficulty. On classic you don’t need to press any buttons as the AI wins for you automatically. After the story you also earn AP three times faster through Chapter Select.
Battle Intel Report 19: Monster Variants Pt. 2 – Condition: Defeat 10 unique varieties. / Reward: HP Absorption Materia
Same as Report 09. This will complete automatically when you do all side quests and complete the story. Don’t worry about this.
Battle Intel Report 20: Combat Simulation Bahamut – Condition: Bahamut / Reward: Bahamut Materia
This unlocks after completing the above 19 Battle Reports. Defeat Bahamut in Chadley’s VR Mission.
Those are all 20 Battle Intel Reports in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. You will get the Intelligence Agent trophy for having completed them all.
For all other Collectibles and anything needed for 100% completion, check out the Final Fantasy VII Remake Wiki & Strategy Guide.
Sam says
20 unlocks Bahamut summon in VR. For anyone struggling with the 200% stagger, use FIFA’s ability to increase her strength, and when an enemy is staggered, use her special attack (triangle) and you’ll see the percentage go up. You need a tough enemy usually who isn’t going to die before you get enough hits in, and hopefully the others in your party are busy elsewhere or else they tend to pile on and end up killing your target.
Revive takes forever to master as well, which you need for mastering all the magic types. You can obtain an AP Up materia part way through the game (at Tifas house, it is a pedometer that needs 5000 steps, and will then turn into the AP materia. This doubles to AP gained to a linked materia).
Sam says
Oops, I meant Aerith’s house you obtain the pedometer/AP up. Excuse my autocorrect changing Tifa to FIFA ?
Bryant says
^_^
Midori says
Battle Intel Report 3 is wrong. The unique ability is the triangle skill. So you need to max out the ATB bar on a staggered mob using skills like Clouds Punisher and Barret’s Overcharge to get credit.
PowerPyx says
I’m pretty sure it’s the unique weapon ability you select in Command Menu. After I used my 10th it completed the challenge.
The Triangle attacks are all the same? Cloud’s is Punisher Mode with all weapons. Barret’s is that cannon shot (except with melee weapons) and Tifa’s that stagger increase. There aren’t even 10 different attacks?
Midori says
You don’t have to use ten different triangle abilities. You can use the same one for all 10. The discription of the report is just poorly worded imo. Each character has one “unique ability”, which can be used repeatedly for the report. I found Barret’s the easiest. You can actually have this report done very easily using Barret’s Overcharge on staggered mobs to fill your ATB before you get the report. I used Cloud to nearly stagger the mob, swapped to Barret to finish staggering, and hit Overcharge to get the report very easily.
PowerPyx says
Thanks, got it to work 🙂
I used Tifa’s attack. Switched to Tifa at start of fight, attacked enemy with until it staggered, then used when enemy was staggered.
CrimsonReaper says
I got all my unique abilities not by the triangle moves but by going to abilities either through hotkey with L1 or just classic way by using x command
PowerPyx says
That’s why I did initially, too. But the method definitely works too (I confirmed on an old save) and is easily farmable early on with same weapon, so it’s better that way. A rather confusing Battle Report.
sike says
Battle Intel Report 03 solution is incorrect, I got this one done with the first sword I got (Iron Sword) very early in the game. Even between Barret, Tifa, and Cloud at this point, that’s only four different weapons I’ve used abilities for.
PowerPyx says
How did you do it?
David slade says
Can someone help out with mission 3? Really don’t know what I missing. Imagine I am being an idiot but I really don’t understand exactly how you get this. Randomly got one but can’t get anymore.
Do you use an ability when the ATB is full or?
David slade says
Ok for a pretty foolproof way to do number 3. When you find Chadley in chapter 8 you can fight VR Shiva. Long fight but you can stagger her, make sure you have low ATB then switch modes and spam heavy attack. You should be able to get 1-2 parts towards completion. You can keep fighting her over and over. Boring but it really just gets it out the way.
Reapum says
Build the ATB bar while an enemy is staggered with you’re heavy attack. Tifa’s is the easiest, stagger with normal attacks and then just feel an ATB with her uppercut attack.
Seba305 says
Just wanted to ask if anyone had a problem with the Leviathan fight glitching? In chapter 13 I unlocked it by doing battle intel 12 but when I got to chapter 14 and checked with Chadley the vr fight doesn’t appear anymore. Is it because I can only access the vr fight in chapter 13?
PowerPyx says
I played Leviathan fight in Chapter 14. You meet Chadley again in Chapter 16, check with him there. Also try to advance the story of Chapter 14, maybe that fixes it, or replay Chapter 13 after the story in Chapter Selection. Might just be a little bit glitchy.
darren says
when does battle report 17 appear on the list? i have all but 2 weapons and am proficient in them all, but the report isn’t on my list yet
darren says
ah doesn’t matter. it unlocked after completing report 12
NiteOwl215 says
Super helpful. God bless the folk who take the time to make my gaming life more enjoyable. Now to get my wife on board ?
Matt says
Hi there! I have beaten the game on normal and am within thru Hard mode. I seem to have missed opening up Battle Report 18 MP. Where can I do that?
Reflex says
After chapter 16 you can’t get back to Chadley, correct?
TREKsportMK3 says
Maybe I’m missing something. I’ve already completed the game and am going back through on hard mode. I got all 12 green materia completed, yet he still isn’t offering the MP Absorb materia. Report 18 isn’t showing up on my list, it goes from 16 to 19. Am I missing something? How do I get the report to finish it? Is there a certain area I need to talk to Chadly at?
