Introduction
Welcome to the Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide DLC Trophy Guide! The Rising Tide is the second and final DLC for Final Fantasy XVI, you will journey to a brand new area in search of the forgotten Eikon, Leviathan. This DLC is slightly harder than the previous one and main game, but with the use of the ring of timely evasion you should be able to get through it with relative ease regardless.
Do note that to start DLC quest “The Rising Tide” on Final Fantasy mode, you must have reached the main quest “Back to Their Origin” in the base game and have also completed the side quests “Where There’s a Will” and “Priceless“, all on Final Fantasy mode as well.
Step 1: Complete the main quest on Final Fantasy Mode
During this step simply proceed with the main quest, making sure to complete the first 6 side quests that unlock along the way. It’s quite short but the final boss is a bit harder than any fight you will have faced in the game so far.
Step 2: Side Quests, upgrade new Eikon Abilities
After the story you will unlock a further 5 side quests towards the 10 you need to complete for The End Can Wait. You also get the opportunity to gain another new ‘Eikon’. You will hopefully have enough AP to master each of the two new Eikon abilities already, if not you will have to farm.
Step 3: Trial by Water and Kairos Gate
This is the final and arguably hardest stage of the DLC. You will unlock a new challenge called Kairos Gate, this is a survival mode consisting of 20 rounds against enemies and various bosses from the main game. With the right strategy this is easy enough but you still have to take care to not be reckless as you can still die very quickly.

Thou Brakest the Head Defeat Leviathan in “Final Fantasy” mode. |
||
For this trophy you have to defeat Leviathan on Final Fantasy mode.
To start with and to make the fight much easier, equip the Ring of Timely Evasion. Even with the ring you will still have to dodge some of Leviathan’s deadliest attacks yourself to a degree as the ring can’t do 100% of the work and you die very quickly on Final Fantasy mode. Fortunately you get checkpoints between each phase which will refill your heals. Phase 1 – You will be fighting Leviathan while airborne. Use fireballs at range and let the ring do most of the dodging for you, using melee combos, brimstone and spitfire. Phase 2 – Now you are fighting on land. Leviathan will use some new attacks here, but the ring will dodge all of them. Use melee attacks, brimstone and spitfire when he is within range, and precision dodge counters when it uses its bite attack. Phase 3 – Leviathan will summon a large shield around himself which you have to destroy very quickly. Start off by immediately using spitfire, then close the gap using wildfire. Use brimstone and spitfire as soon as they are available again and then burst finish combos on the ground and in the air repeatedly , dodging where appropriate. Leviathan will eventually repel you back, repeat the process until you break the shield. Phase 4 – This is similar to phase 2, only now Leviathan will use more deadly attacks. For Maelstrom you can use wildfire to quickly dodge, though it may be a bit inconsistent. You can also try using the i-frames of brimstone to avoid the initial explosion, then the ring will dodge the projectiles that follow. After staggering him he will use Waterspout, which summons a massive water vortex that will move towards you, immediately use wildfire to the left repeatedly to avoid it, if you get caught in it you will die, regardless of how many heals you have left. After this he will use Angry Seas, sending out repeated shockwaves, these are most easily avoided by jumping and dodging in the air, the ring can dodge them as well but since there are so many you can still sometimes get hit. After this you should be able to easily finish him off. |
||
Tideslinger Land 300 Tidal attacks combined (excluding battles in the Hall of Virtue). |
||
You will easily obtain this naturally very soon after unlocking Leviathan abilities. The fastest way is to use Serpent’s Cry then spam Tidal Torrent as it acts like a shotgun blast and hits several times per shot.
Supersoaker Strike three or more enemies with Tidal attacks while using unlimited ammunition following a Quick Refill. |
||
This trophy can easily be obtained in the first battle in which you are forced to use only Leviathan abilities. 3 enemies must DIE from your Tidal attacks, not just take damage. Hitting them isn’t enough, it only counts if they die.
Attack Perykos and it will eventually summon smaller enemies. Refill your water gauge and time the prompt for when the line is in the highlighted circle to gain unlimited ammo for a few seconds. While this effect is active defeat 3 of the enemies with Tidal Torrent or Tidal Stream. They should be bunched up close enough together to perform this easily. If you don’t earn it here you can so easily in the Kairos Gate. Note: the official trophy description is mistranslated from Japanese to the English version. The original Japanese trophy description says to “DEFEAT” 3 or more enemies with Tidal Attacks, the English version is falsely translated to “STRIKE”. The enemies have to be defeated using these attacks, just hitting them doesn’t count if they don’t die. |
||
Deus Ex Channel the heavens. |
||
This can only be unlocked after finishing the main DLC story quest. Go to The Hideaway, interact with the Arete Stone opposite the shop and you will be given the Ultima ‘Eikon’.
A Most Worthy Vessel Acquire and master all Leviathan and Ultima abilities. |
||
For this trophy you need to unlock and master every ability from Leviathan and Ultima. This costs a significant of AP but you may have enough from your main game and previous DLC playthrough (if you played that one) to max out all abilities, you need 32,500 AP in total. If you need to farm AP you can use the same spot from the base game here.
The End Can Wait Complete 10 Mysidian quests. |
||
There are 11 new quests available in the new Mysidian region that unlock as you progress the story. The first 6 are available as you progress the story before facing Leviathan, the last 5 will unlock after that. Complete 10 of these for the trophy.
Still Breathing Complete the Trial by Water. |
||
The Chronolith is located in the north of Mysidia by Languor Falls. The actual trial itself is easy. Using Leviathan’s powerful abilities it’s very easy to build up a lot of extra time. In the final round you will face a Behemoth, play a bit more carefully here and not too aggressively as the comets and meteors can hit you if you are stuck in the animation of using an ability. Keep your distance and bring it to stagger by using Serpent’s Cry and Tidal Torrent, then unleash your limit and abilities and it should go down quickly.
Occasio Calva Complete Kairos Gate. |
||
Kairos Gate is unlocked after completing the story and accessed from an Arete Stone. This is a 20 round survival mode where you are unable to use any gear or accessories and your level is capped to 80. You must beat all 20 rounds in a row without dying, if you die you start from round 1, there is no way to save mid-run or use save backups. This may sound daunting but with the right setup and strategy it will be much easier. At the end of each round you will receive EP and BP, these are used to buy permanent and temporary upgrades for Clive during your run that are very useful and will make this easier as you go along.
Below is a list of recommended Eikons to use, ability setup and general strategy. Eikon’s and Abilities: Ultima – Ultimate Demise, Judgment Bolt Enhancements and Boons: First of all, get the permanent free Boons: Timely Evasion, Timely Focus, and Timely Assistance. These will last your whole run and are equivalent to the ring accessories from the main game, they will make this much easier. At the end of each round you will be ranked and receive BP and EP, these are used to purchase upgrades. You should focus on putting a few upgrades into Eikonic Ability Potency first, this will increase the damage of your abilities considerably. Then put 2/3 upgrades into defense, before getting Eikonic Ability Potency to level 4, and bring defense up to at least level 3, then just focus on maxing them both out. In the later rounds these should be fully upgraded. Put a couple of upgrades in Boon Potency, then into HP. Try to upgrade Boon Potency at least once as it’s useful for the last couple of rounds, if you have any remaining BP then put these into HP. Attack Potency isn’t important as most of your damage will be from abilities and Leviathan’s Tidel Torrent. General strategy for most rounds: Before Starting – It’s recommended to not use any Boons until round 15. It’s better to save your BP for later in the run as this is when they are most useful, especially on round 20. On rounds 15 onwards feel free to get the Limit Break Potency Boon, this will let you survive an attack that would kill you and activate your Limit Break, also restoring your HP much faster. On Final Fantasy mode enemies will hit you VERY hard, you need to play safely and from a distance using Leviathan’s Tidal Torrent as much as possible. Round by Round – Each round consists of 3 waves of enemies, usually weaker enemies on wave 1 and 2, then a large wave or miniboss on wave 3. Start off by running up to the enemies and open with Tsnuami, this should wipe them out most of the time. On Wave 2 use Ultimate Demise, this draws in for a massive wide-area attack which should finish them all off. If anything survived use Tidal Torrent from a distance. On Wave 3, or any wave with a miniboss use Leviathan’s Serpent’s Cry and keep your distance while firing off Tidal Torrent, this deals decent damage, high stagger damage, and is very spammable. Then use diamond dust and the rest of your abilities once staggered. Be careful in early rounds in particular as you won’t have any defense upgrades and can die in a few hits, so keep your distance while using Tidal Torrent. Boss Rounds – On rounds 5, 10, 15 and 20 you will face an Eikon boss. By far the most dangerous of the bosses is Round 20 which is Odin. Play safer during these rounds, keeping your distance and using Diamond Dust and Tidal Torrent to quickly bring them to stagger, then unleashing the rest of your abilities on them. With Ability Upgrades they should go down relatively quickly. By round 20 you should have lots of BP, buy every positive boon for this. Odin is very dangerous and can kill you quickly, play defensively, don’t spam Tidal Torrent constantly as he can sometimes partially block it which can stun you for a brief second or he can attack you while you are firing. Some of his attacks can kill you instantly, this is why it’s important to have the Limit Break Potency boon at the very least, so you can survive and very quickly regain HP. |

How hard is Kairos gate at the lowest difficulty?
Snake2410 says
It’s not too bad. I’d probably rate the dlc overal a 4/10 difficulty. Most of that coming from the Kairos Gate and the damage check during the Leviathan fight. Kairos Gate actually was a little easier for me. I failed on floor 2 the first time only because I stupidly bought thr timely strikes boon. That’s the one boon you don’t want lol.
I used boons more sporadically throughout, rather than save them for the last 6 floors, but really only the one for getting more health back after a floor completion when I was going in with less health than I’d like. I also used a few of the better ones on boss floors, but made sure I had at least 65 – 75 BP for floor 20 to buy nearly every good one there. I used about 15 BP for the 1 floor survival ones each floor from 15 – 19 as well, then blew almost everything I had on floor 20.
Odin wasn’t too bad really, just make sure to avoid his Masamune attack(I believe this is his one hit kill attack but didnt chance it) and play defensively on him, like the guide says. Serpents Cry has a nice longer distance dodge with R1 when activated. That’ll get you out of the way easily.
This was all on Final Fantasy mode.

Thank You Sellers, starting it today!
Primo says
Thanks for this!!! Should I do Trial By Water after finishing the DLC in Final Fantasy Mods? Or should I do it on a lower difficulty?
Daniel says
I can do anything, but Kairos Gate won’t unlock. Everything is 100% complete.
