Caretakers of the Eagle is a side tale in Ghost of Tsushima – Iki Island DLC Expansion. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Caretakers of the Eagle Side Quest.
Side Tale: Caretakers of the Eagle

Mission Info: A temple sits atop a mountain – no Mongols in sight. I wonder why they have left it in peace.
Objectives:
- Survey the temple grounds
- Learn more about the caretakers
- Find out what happened to the missing villagers
- Rest until the caretakers fall asleep
- Rescue the kidnapped villagers
- Clear the Mongols from the temple grounds
- Enter the temple

Starting Location: Caretakers of the Eagle
Survey the temple grounds
Go up the hill path to the left of the quest giver. There you’ll find a “Survey” point you can interact with. Then you can look down at the temple and a white circle will show you what direction to look at. Press 
to inspect the people by the tents, the cart to the right of the temple, the guard in front of the temple.
Learn more about the caretakers
You will now automatically put on a disguise to blend in with the caretakers. Drop down to the temple area and talk to the man in front of the main temple building. He’s the Warden.
Next, head down the stairs and talk to the woman holding a baby wrapped in a white blanket.
To the left of the woman is another man you can talk to in front of a house, interact with him. He will let in one of the servants to prepare food but doesn’t allow you inside the house.
Find out what happened to the missing villagers
Head around the corner of that same house to find a hole below the house where you can eavesdrop (bottom right corner in below screenshot).
Rest until the caretakers fall asleep
Now head back up the stairs where you came from. There you must sit by the campfire to wait until everyone falls asleep.
Rescue the kidnapped villagers
First, head back to the same house where you just eavesdropped. This time you can slide under the holes around that house to crawl through the floorboards. Once inside, talk to the captives and free them. The Mongols will arrive and enemies will now spawn throughout the temple grounds. There are two more people we must save. Clear out the enemies first and pay attention that they don’t execute any captives. If an enemy gets a red skull icon above their head, they are about to execute someone and must be stopped immediately (if they are far away just shoot them with arrows).
The second person to save is in the hut next to the previous one. In there you find Ito.
The third and last person to free is Toukichi, the brother of Ito. He’s at a campfire outside the building that held Ito.
Clear the Mongols from the temple grounds
Head back up the stairs to the main temple. Several enemies will be in front of the temple, defeat them all. If they haven’t been alerted you can try to defeat the first few with a chain assassination. Try to defeat the Shaman first, then the others are easier to kill.
Enter the temple
Now enter the main temple via the door on its side.
Confront Zehnshin the monk
In the temple are two more guards. After defeating them, talk to the monk on the floor. He explains that he has been poisoned by the Eagle. You will play the flute to soothe him and the quest will end.
This finishes the Caretakers of the Eagle quest in Ghost of Tsushima Iki Island.
