Starting Location: The Curse of Uchitsune
Sit to hear the Legend of Uchitsune
Search the Hiyoshi coast for blue flowers
Yamato’s vague instructions put you on the path, but its still a really big area to comb for evidence of a legend.
Follow the blue flowers
Very near the center of the search zone, you’ll run across the blue flowers.
Right at the center you’ll find a large stony hill which is actually a tomb. Squeeze through the crack to enter it.
Investigate the tomb
Crawl through an opening and you’ll find yourself looking down at a lower level where the waypoint is leading you.
Drop down and examine a painting that is on a pole like a banner. It shows an island surrounded by blue flowers, and the location of your next clue.
Search Hiyoshi for the island
Armed with a new search zone, you now have to find your way out of the tomb. Go back to the wall where you dropped down, and squeeze through a hole into a tunnel. Follow the tunnel up and around, then jump across to a ledge on the other side of the tomb area. This will lead to another crack you can squeeze through to get back outside.
Almost immediately, you’re ambushed by flaming arrows. Some mysterious monk with vague warnings of danger tells you to stop searching for the bow, then runs off while you consider his words. Of course, Jin isn’t one to be swayed by ominous warnings, not when there’s a sweet ass bow to be had.
While searching for the island, you’ll notice that in the lower right hand corner of the screen will be a tiny version of the painting you found. Swipe left on the Touchpad to enlarge it, then swipe right on the to minimize it back to the corner.
The actual location of the island is shown in the picture below, in case you don’t want to look all over the coast yourself (in the north of the search area).
Follow the Blue Flowers
You’ll know when you’re close because you’ll see more blue hydrangeas, like they’re leading you to the right place. Follow the pathway down to the shoreline.
Swim across the water to reach the island, and enter the cave at its base.
Investigate the island
Inside, you’ll find another cloth banner with a painting on it. Sorry Jin, but our weapon is in another castle… er, mountain. Grab the painting and head back outside.
Another clue, another stern warning. Looks like you’re on the right track.
Search Hiyoshi for the mountain
Head back the way you came, using the painting in the same way you did before to locate the mountain. Or, you can just look at the map below.
Follow the blue flowers
Again, you’ll know you’re close when you start running across blue flowers. They will lead you up a hill and into a weird grotto of tombs
Pick up the longbow
At the center of everything will be a pedestal where the bow is being displayed out in the open. Go ahead and grab it. It’s probably not a trap.
Defeat the Tengu Demon
Okay, fine. It was totally a trap, and now you have to fight some weird monk in a Tengu Demon mask while a million birds circle you. All perfectly normal.
Hopefully you’ve leveled up and didn’t just go straight for the longbow, otherwise this is going to be a rough fight. The Tengu Demon is faster and hits harder than any enemy you’ve fought so far. Many of his attacks have one or more unblockable components, and he usually will try to chain attacks to push his advantage if he manages to hit you.
If you merely block instead of performing a parry, he can sometimes chain together 6-8 hits in a single combo and sometimes ending with an unblockable attack, so you want to parry whenever possible or even better, sidestep by pressing left or right and :o:. Any time you manage to parry or sidestep an attack, immediately follow up with a combo until the Tengu Demon gets his guard back up. It is better to use than because it is faster, and if you try for the heavy attack you might not end up doing any damage at all.
When he puts his katana back in its saya (scabbard), be ready to sidestep when he gets into range. Don’t make the mistake of trying to attack preemptively, because the Tengu Demon is almost certainly faster than you are, and you likely will not make contact before he hits you with an unblockable attack.
Instead, the second he starts his attack, tap + left/right to side step, then immediately attack with :sq:, landing a combo of attacks if possible before he regains his balance.
Sometimes he will lead with an unblockable forward kick or overhand slash, which can be countered in the same way.
If you get too far away from him, the Tengu Demon will sometimes unleash a combo of four unblockable slashes while bounding towards you. The best way to avoid this is just to try rolling out by double pressing to roll away from him. Don’t be lured in to trying to attack after his fourth slash. He’ll pause then immediately perform a Heavenly Strike towards you, for a fifth unblockable slash. Just wait till he settles down before you try to reengage.
Be patient, keep sidestepping attacks then hitting him with a three hit combo when possible. This is a long fight, so play it smart and take it slow.
Once you have defeated the Tengu Demon, the mission is over and you will have a brand new bow to terrorize the Mongols with. Enjoy!

anon001 says
This mission is glitched. I talked to the peasant who gave the rumor, and it says there’s a musician in the Hiyoshi springs, but I can’t track the mission and the musician doesn’t spawn.
Crusader2001 says
I had the same issue.
I got another rumour from a peasant at the golden temple or the survivor camp in the southwest.
After that the blue icon appeared and the musician was there.
