Starting Location: The Tale of Ryuzo
Meet Ryuzo in Takuzudama Cemetary
Travel to Takuzudama Cemetary and speak with Ryuzo to begin your strategy session.
Follow Ryuzo to Fort Ohira
As you travel to the fort, Ryuzo and Jin will discuss his plan. Raiding Fort Ohira will be a challenge, and most of the risk falls on you.
Do not raise the alarm
This will be a stealth heavy mission, so it helps to have the Ronin Attire (hopefully upgraded) and equipping any stealth enhancing charms you have.
Disable the alarm in the lighthouse
Find a convenient point to breach the fort, such as this readily available tree that has fallen against the wall. It doesn’t get more convenient than that.
Use your Focused Hearing ability to keep tabs on any Mongols in your immediate area.
If you go straight for the lighthouse, you’ll pass by two Mongol guards standing on the edge of the cliff, making them easy targets.
Right in front of the lighthouse are two more Mongol guards hanging around a fire, but you should resist busting out chain assassination if you have it. If you take this opportunity to eliminate these guards, you’re far more likely to cause an alarm when the bodies are discovered. Then again, remember that it only counts as an alarm if the Mongol survives to blow his horn.
When ready, go straight for the lighthouse and climb to the top. Disable the fireworks when prompted by pressing :r2:.
Regroup with Ryuzo
Meet up with Ryuzo in the fort, clean up any remaining Mongols (if any), then speak with him. If you do decide to take the fort entirely by stealth, Ryuzo will comment on that too.
You’ll discover that all the food and supplies are being transported offshore. Uh oh, sounds like Jin has a crazy plan.
Survey the Mongol landing site
Follow Ryuzo to the edge of the cliff and press when prompted to survey the landing site.
There are four locations to survey: the small boats at the dock, the front gate, the large cache of black powder being stockpiled in the middle of their camp, and the cliff tops that overlook the camp.
Once you’ve checked them all out, you’ll form a half-baked plan with Ryuzo to have archers draw attention while you steal a boat.
Do not raise the alarm
Again you must proceed in total stealth. If you must kill anyone, make sure you have a clean assassination, and that the body won’t be discovered.
Lead Ryuzo down the cliffs
Head down the path that winds its way down towards the camp. You’ll reach the waypoint about halfway down, automatically triggering a cinematic where Ryuzo signals his men to begin the diversion.
Lead Ryuzo to the Mongol rowboat
Once the attack has started, the fire arrows raining down on the Mongols occupies a great deal of their attention. There won’t be any pampas grass on the beach, so you will have to make use of the various large rocks or piles of cargo to keep out of sight. A lot of the Mongols will be busy being on fire and won’t notice you.
Keep heading for the waypoint, but keep your eye out for one last Mongol guard who patrols the stretch of beach right in front of the boats. He will likely be the only one you will have to assassinate.
Once the path is clear to the docks, head for the boat at the waypoint and sail to the Mongol ships.
Search the ship for food
After stealing the boat, you will row it out to one of the Mongol cargo ships and begin the search for food. Ryuzo will climb up first and assassinate the first guard in short order, then tell you to search the cargo for food. Press when prompted to search the piles of barrels and crates, while Ryuzo continues to stew about his tournament loss to Jin.
Return to Ryuzo
Searching all the barrels will turn up nothing, so your search must continue elsewhere. Outside are the sounds of several Mongols, to which Ryuzo comes up with a careful plan to quietly and safely eliminate them all without attracting attention, then he does this.
Jerk.
Defeat the Mongols on the ships
There will be an even mix of swordsmen, shield holders, and pikemen engaging you in melee combat, but your first concern should be the archers raining arrows down on you both during the fight. While Ryuzo has fun with swords, go to the edge of the boat and use the gunwhale as cover as you eliminate them. Be sure to use the hanging lantern above their heads to good effect, which will usually damage them if not kill them outright. Clean up any that survive with your bow before you proceed.
When its safe to do so, Ryuzo will head up the gangplank to the next ship, triggering more Mongols to stream over from another ship ready to join the fight. Ryuzo will immediately head down to the main deck, leaving you free to put arrows in the less fortunate. Just be aware that all of these Mongols have armor, and some have helmets, meaning that even a headshot with a shortbow isn’t a guaranteed kill. If you don’t have a longbow, then you’ll be forced to rely on specialized arrows or just your katana.
The leader is the main threat in this section, will a full suit of armor and a polearm. Swap to Wind Stance and take him out cleanly.
Speak with Ryuzo
Once all the Mongols have been killed, you and Ryuzo will decide to split up and look for the food.
Reach the next ship
Go across the next gangplank and use your Focused Hearing ability to locate all Mongols in the area.
Search the ship for food
You will find two guards patrolling in the cargo hold, one archer on the deck above you and two more on the main deck. Though the objective for this part of the mission says to search for food, what you actually discover are Mongol battle plans on a table in the small room at the center of the cargo hold.
Return to Ryuzo
Head back to the ship Ryuzo was searching to find a trail of bodies and no Ryuzo.
Find Ryuzo
Follow the waypoint to the aft deck
Help Ryuzo
This is a fine mess that Ryuzo has gotten himself into. You arrive just in time to see Ryuzo defeated and have to face a huge brute with a polearm.
Defeat the Mongol
If you’ve unlocked Moon Stance, switch to it, otherwise you’re left with Wind Stance to make the most of it. The brute attacks with huge unblockable swings that are difficult to avoid. You can try ducking high swings, and jumping over leg sweeps, but your best bet will usually be to roll backwards out of range. But before you attempt to fight the Brute, the easiest strategy is to immediately drop a smoke bomb near the Brute, then go and revive Ryuzo before the brute recovers.
With the brute’s attention divided between you two, it will become a much simpler fight, plus it seems sort of apt that your both defeat him together.
Jump off the ship
The Mongols aren’t ready to give up that easily, and start peppering your ship with fire arrows. Jump over the side to end the mission.
