I saw some during endgame side quests.
Apex variants also spawn at night more often, although in the case of Stormbird I only ever saw the normal one at the Stormbird site but it’s worth a try (can advance time at shelters by sitting down on the chair).

Every time I knock the storm canon off of the bird I’m unable to pick it up or unable to find it even if I use my focus. No one seems to have any answers besides changing my difficulty to easy loot. But that doesn’t help when it makes up the biggest hit box on the machine verging on impossible not to knock off.

I’m having the same problem! Can’t upgrade my gear. I’m wondering if the devs did it on purpose so you don’t get over geared too early or something like that. I’m level 44 and I got a few cannons earlier so it doesn’t make sense for it to just stop giving them. Please let me know if you figure anything out.

You need to switch to tear damage, tearblast ammo otherwise you’ll destroy it

I got one from the very first stormbird I encountered during a side quest. I used tear precision arrows and after 2 hits it was on the ground for me to collect. I think if you use other types of ammo it breaks it.

Ya I was having problems getting the cannon. I just turned changed it to story mode and didn’t hit the cannon. Hate to do it but killed the stupid thing 6 times without it ever dropping.

What about the primary neeve? The drop rate is small but is there a way to increase its drop chance? Preserve a specific component or remove one…?

I’ve had to do all my farming at night in order to have Apex machines spawn and in addition it’s helpful for spotting Greenshine. Those Stormbirds are a bother since they retreat to a distance so consider kicking in Aloys “Infiltrator’s Stealth Stalker,” wait for them to settle and use your best Tear arrows.

I have problems with Stormbirds too, but my issue is a bit different. Several times while playing HFW, when trying to shoot off the Stormbird Canon, I have seen it go flying and then before I can get it, the stombird is over there stomping the Canon into the ground, breaking it so I can’t use it. Seems crazy, but true. I even have a video clip on my PS5 where the stormbird gets so distracted looking for the Canon, it completely ignores me no matter what I do. Think there must be a glitch or something in my game. Any suggestions appreciated.

That is indeed a glitch. With all due apologies if you’ve already done this: Save your game at the closest location to the Stormbird. Exit the game, reboot your PS/5 and load the game from main screen, not the resume game. There appears to be game inconsistencies from “resume game” which I was able to regulate by restarting from the main screen.
