Monster Hunter World: Lava Nugget Location

Lava Nugget is a crafting component in Monster Hunter World. It is used to craft the high-rank armor “Uragaan Vembraces” and “Uragaan Helm”. It is also needed to complete the delivery quest “Tomatoes Red as Magma” which unlocks the Fatty Tomatoe ingredient for the canteen.

Item Description: Lava Nugget is a rare conglomerate of ore found growing on an Uragaan. Comprised of various ores, melted together.

You can only get Lava Nugget while fighting an Uragaan in Elder’s Recess. You must stun the Uragaan so it falls to the ground for a few seconds. Then walk to its back and press / to start mining its back. So while the fight is going on you actually mine the back of the Uragaan like you would an ore deposit. The game never explains this so its easy to miss. Alternatively, Lava Nugget parts may also break off from the Uragaan during the fight – the best odds are when attacking with a hammer. You can see the white glowing lava nuggets on the floor and pick them up when they fall off. The first option to mine the Uragaan’s back is the most reliable. You just need a weapon that can stun it and bring it to the ground for a little while. Again, the hammer works well for it or you can search for an online session at the questboard and hope for other players to stun the Uragaan.

Mining the Uragaan’s back does not guarantee a Lava Nugget but has the best odds (it might also give you other ore). You can mine its back multiple times over the course of the fight. Lava Nugget is not available from carving and not as a mission reward, only by mining the Uragaan during combat!

  • Mine the Uragaan’s back in the middle of the fight after the Uragaan gets stunned by your attacks and falls to the ground for a few seconds.
    

You can defeat Uragaans as often as you wish to farm Lava Nuggets, they respawn when fast traveling to another map.
