Talk to David Geddes
Mr. Geddes wants you to help his youngest son Duncan learn to ride, and also to help his wife with a mare about to give birth. Follow Abe for a bit until he points you in the direction of Duncan. You’ll find him already struggling with Jeremiah, a willful horse that hasn’t been completely broken yet.
Target the horse with / and press / to calm him down.
Keep calming the horse down until the calm action will be replaced with a pat action, also performed with / . Keep patting the horse until you get the objective to tire out Jeremiah.
- GOLD MEDAL: Tire out Jeremiah within 45 seconds
Get on Jeremiah, and jump back and forth over fences around the corral until John says that Jeremiah won’t give them any more trouble.
- GOLD MEDAL: Feed Jeremiah a treat
Before you return to Duncan, hold / to open your inventory wheel, and switch to the Horse tab. Hold to highlight a horse treat, and then release / to use it.
Bring the horse to Duncan and watch as he takes his first few laps around the corral.
After four or five laps, you’ll be interrupted by Mrs. Geddes wondering where you were. Busted. Follow her to the stables.
She will teach you how to birth a foal. Rotate until the vibrations are at maximum, then press when prompted to grip. Then press / rapidly until the foal pops out.
Head back to your house and you’ll talk to Abigail about Jack. She asks you to take him out, and it just so happens that Duncan has lent you his old pony for Jack to ride.
- GOLD MEDAL: Teach Jack to ride without his horse bucking him off
Back outside, mount your horse and follow Jack slowly as he learns to ride. As you teach him to speed up and slow down, you can focus on Jack with / and press / to go faster, or / to slow down. Never let Jack go faster than a canter (which is faster than a trot, and slower than a gallop) and you won’t have any trouble with the pony throwing him.
When you reach the stream, this will signal the beginning of the last gold medal requirement.
- GOLD MEDAL: Win the race back to Pronghorn Ranch
From this point forward, you don’t have to worry about Jack being thrown, simply go flat out and win the race.
This finishes Fatherhood, for Beginners main mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. Now the next quest Old Habits starts.
