In Red Dead Redemption 2 you must recover the stash from 4 homesteads for the Breaking and Entering trophy or achievement. This guide shows the locations of all homesteads and their stashes in RDR2.
There are 7 homesteads but you only need 4. So you can pick and choose which ones you want to do. The last one at Willard’s Rest only becomes available in Chapter 6. The others you can loot as early as Chapter 2 and it is recommended to do them early on. In the late game some inhabitants of the homesteads may no longer be there which means you can’t interrogate them for clues. Or you may have killed them already which would only complicate things.
Make sure that you loot EVERYTHING and not just the stash. The trophy tracking for this appears to be a bit off. The first time I did this it didn’t unlock the trophy because I only went for the stash and didn’t loot the rest.
Chez Porter
The secret stash is on the upper floor of the barn. You go to rob this place with Javier when accepting his Home Robbery task in Chapter 2 or Chapter 3. Javier is found in your gang’s camp. You can still go to the homestead without him later but it’s unclear if it then counts for the trophy. I was able to still get the stash after the story. Inside the barn you can climb up a ladder to the above floor to find the stash box next to some haystacks. The treasure box contains 2 x $50 and a jewelry bag. Be sure to loot everything else in the houses too.
Aberdeen Pig Farm
When you arrive at the farm, there’s a guy sitting on the porch who greets you. Greet him back, talk to him and follow him inside his house. Then rob the place. Also be sure to go back outside and enter the door at the southern side of the house. This lets you in the room with the stash. This door is closed until you have followed the guy inside his house. It’s a little lockbox with 2 x $20 inside, be sure to loot that alongside everything else in the house. On Xbox, players have reported it only added to their achievement progress after drinking with the couple and then having found an alternative stash behind a picture inside the house, so to be sure try that as well (on PS4 it updated my in-game home robberies tracker by just looting the lockbox in the back of the house).
Lonnie’s Shack
Inside Lonnie’s Shack there are 4 guys. Kill 3 of them but keep 1 alive! It’s best to make a manual save beforehand. Aim your gun at the last surviving guy and threaten him. Then he tells you the location of the stash. This will be different depending on who is the last guy alive, e.g. it can be under the pillow of one of the beds or in the sack of grain in the kitchen, but if you don’t interrogate the last guy you can’t pick up the stash.
Van Horn Mansion
There’s a villa south of Van Horn Trading Outpost. You can sometimes find two residents inside (this is totally random). They are there like once a week at a random time. Some players found them at night time, I found them at day (can make a camp and rest to advance time). At night you can find two people sleeping on the lower floor, at day they might just be sitting or walking around. Steal the money from their table (downstairs) and loot everything else in the house. It took me 1 hour of advancing time until I finally got them to spawn at day. I checked for 20 nights in a row and they were never there. I then rebooted the game, did some other activities, and when I came back they were there on the first try. It’s just super random, rebooting the game may help to make them load in.
Catfish Jacksons
Enter the Jacksons house. There’s either a dad and his son inside or just the son. You can get the shotgun from the living room and threaten the son so he tells the stash location. It can be inside in the chimney of the living room or outside of the house, on the side to the right of the entrance. There’s a little hole on the side of the house with a crate inside. Interact with the crate and loot it. But be sure to loot everything inside as well, especially the Premium Cigarette Packs in the chest of the son’s room and the shotgun from living room. This stash only seems to count once you’ve interrogated the son.
Watson’s Cabin
In Watson’s Cabin you find an old lady. Enter her house and use the ladder in the back to climb down into the cellar. Steal her shotgun and leave – the shotgun itself counts as the stash and is enough to count for the trophy. If you want to rob more money (optional and not trophy-relevant), go make a camp from the item wheel and rest twice in a row to skip to the next day. Then return to the cabin and you’ll encounter the 4 sons of the old lady. Kill them all and a lockbox will now be available on the kitchen table that was previously not there. The lockbox contains 1 x $73,00, some easy money.
Willard’s Rest (Rocky Seven)
This is only available after having completed the first story mission in Chapter 6. Go there and talk to the resident and teach her how to hunt. Return 2 days later (can make a camp from the item wheel to advance time, wait 5-10 minutes to sleep again). When you return do a shooting contest with her and then you can follow her inside the house, eat dinner and then loot her lockbox next to the bed. Be sure to loot everything else too.
Side note: you may encounter random people who tell you of a home robbery at “Rocky Seven”, but it’s called “Willard’s Rest” on the map so this is the one.
After clearing 4 of these 7 homestead stashes you will earn the trophy or achievement “Breaking and Entering”.

Tenreth says
I think you missed some and 7 is not correct. I have none of the above, but my tracker is at 1/4.
I found a lot of money at Carmory Dell in the fireplace
PowerPyx says
I’ll check Carmory Dell.
If you find any more please report here, that would help a lot.
Tenreth says
If i finde some, i will.
I found it while doing the mission “The Spines of America”. Dunno if that matters here.
Mike says
Where is this in the tracker? I see robbery at 1/4 but that is not this trophy.
Jo says
So I went to Watson’s Cabin and got shot by the 4 brothers and died and now when I go there, there’s nobody there and no lockbox appeared before or is appearing now. It’s not reloading, so does this mean I have failed to get this homestead location? What should I do?
Mason says
Same thing happened to me. Any help?
Killer01 says
There is no way of getting the lockbox now you have to do it around morning but if there is nobody there it has been relocated
Chris says
How do you do this if your trying to do a honour playthrough?
PowerPyx says
You can make a manual save beforehand and reload it after the trophy has popped.
John Marshton says
Just got this tropy the moment I stole the shotgun in Watson’s Cabin. So I guess we don’t have to loot every single item.
leptonic says
Second this… I can say for Watson’s Cabin stealing the shotgun is enough for the stash, you don’t even need to wait for the 4 sons to show. This could be very helpful and faster.
Anyway excellent work PP, your guides have been very useful in my journey. Keep up the hard work buddy! 10/10 on that
Brett says
I ended up doing Lonnie’s Shck with Sean at the beginning of Chapter 3 and the fourth person surrendered pretty easily. Seems like this is better than doing it w/o Sean.
nrgjak says
Yes, way easier that way
Ez says
There’s a stash at Aberdeen Pig Farm behind the painting of the woman. I got the achievement by looting this.
Rondo says
Did u drink with the couple and ended up wasted outside of the house?
Slice-of-Life says
Yes, you must let them rob you because of drinking. It’d be better for PowerPyx updates the guide because it is not well explained. Also is it bugged if I searched the house before shooting course in “Willard’s Rest”? Or I couldn’t find the stash.
PowerPyx says
I went there on 3 saves, didn’t have to rob anything behind a painting. You just need the lockbox in the back of the building, I never touched a painting and it counted for me. I never sat with the couple and never had them rob me.
dstack says
I had the same issue; could only get this to count when letting myself get robbed after drinking, and then recovering my money behind the painting. It would not count on the achievement tracker when just robbing the box in the other room. This is on the Xbox One version.
DS says
I at chapter 2 and still haven’t go the place list above. My Social Club showing 25% Breaking and Entering Completed.
I think from The Spines of America mission, I do that mission at night and loot everything at the house.
Erogenous Jones says
I while travelling in the countryside south east of emerald ranch, I met a man at a campsite who was talking about a widowed woman living near Annesburg he was going to marry. I heard him out (by choosing the “respond positively” option a couple of times” and it added a notification for a home robbery to my task log.
The log says “Rocky Seven: there’s a wealthy couple who recently bought a house far north of van horn. Could be worth a visit.
I haven’t been there yet though as I’m only in chapter 2 and have not found van horn or Annesburg yet.
Val says
I’m still looking for the place north of van horn. I haven’t found it so if you do please let me know!
hartgroove says
Is there a way to do 4 out of 7 without honor losses?
PowerPyx says
I don’t remember if it takes away honor if they don’t see you… being stealthy is usually fine and did not take away honor for me in other homesteads. If you lose honor just catch some fish and release them again for quick honor gains, so no problem.
kingslayer says
Do you really have to loot every single thing at each homestead or was that just an anecdotal thing you felt like helped you unlock the trophy? It just seems really excessive to have to loot every thing there. Especially when I’m usually pretty stocked up on provisions and tonics so I literally have to use or sell a bunch of them just to pick things up if that’s the only way to get this trophy.
Shortbread Head says
no, you absolutely do NOT need to loot everything, or ANYTHING other than just the lockbox for that matter, or in the case of the one with the money on the table; that.
Basically if it’s money, that’s it. Food, jewellery and all the other crap doesn’t matter, but it doesn’t hurt to take what you can!
Erogenous Jones says
I got this trophy last night, after doing chez porter. I had previously gotten the stash in Aberdeen pig farm and Lonnie shack. I didn’t rob any other homes. The only thing I can think of that might have counted towards the trophy is during the Oil Pours Forth quests in chapter 2 when you steal the oil wagon and store it before the train robbery, you store it next to a small burned down building. You can go down a ladder into the cellar of this building, and if you use Eagle sense it will show a brick in the cellar wall marked as “stash”.
This might count towards the trophy even though there seemed to be no one living in the building.
Erogenous Jones says
Unless the fireplace in Carmody Dell during the Spines of America quest counts. I forgot I did that…
Dominik says
I got a stash locations somewhere north of Van Horn called Rocky Seven. Haven’t got the chance to look for it myself tho
quinnerd says
I still found two sleeping people and the cash in the Van Horn mansion and I’m done with the story.
PowerPyx says
I probably killed them by accident somewhere else then. For me they weren’t around anymore and couldn’t find their cash.
David says
Stupid question but if you go there and you are already carrying the max amount for that item do you have to leave / destroy some then come back and pick the rest up?
Chris says
This is really buggy. I need 1 more and I have gone through 6 of these many times and different game saves. The only 3 that won’t work is Van Horn Mansion, Watson’s Cabin and Pig farm. I don’t want to wait till chapter 6. Catfish took a few tries to get it to register. I collect everything to just the stash.
Richard says
I’ve done Watson’s cabin and Lonnie’s shack, need 2 more to go so i went to Aberdeen’s pig farm 1st, and i killed them once i got into the house, didn’t let them rob me, and there’s a comment saying stash behind the painting counts i guess i failed this
then i got in to van horn mansion, doesn’t matter morning or night, the 2 guy is laying there, when i try to steal the money they woke up no matter what time it is, so i killed them both finished looting but no trophy jumped
PowerPyx says
What does it say in Rockstar Social Club for the trophy progress? You can keep track of it there after each homestead to check if it counted.
KeepOneRolledUp says
It is best to wait for something to Prompt you to go to these stash. A passer by, camp robbery side missions etc. This game is cause and effect very heavily if you go to these places before hand you can mess up your progress for the achievement it is solely about what you loot from the house so if you have to drop items in your inventory to grab items out of the house it’s what you have to do cigarettes, liquor, stashs, food everything. I happen to pass by Lonnie’s cabin which you can still get the gun from under the bed if you leave one person alive you can also still find the stash however whenever Sean prompts you to go to the place to Rob them instead of four guys it will now be seven to ten armed guys and if you still leave one alive you will still get another stash
Kaimaerah says
I did Chez Porter (without Javier and before his activity was available), Aberdeen Pig Farm and Lonnie’s Shack in Chapter 2 and the trophy popped for me after I looted the stash in the shack. I had no honor loss killing/looting Chez Porter, no honor loss if the Aberdeen’s robbed me and no honor loss if I let the last guy go at the shack (did do them with the bandanna on).
Only other thing I can think of that I did was the mission “Spines of America” and looted Carmory Dell.
The Adler Ranch from Chapter 1 wouldn’t count for this would it?
PowerPyx says
Added the video guide now.
Just to make some confirmations:
– Rocky Seven = Willard’s Rest. It’s just called differently on the map.
– Carmory Dell (from The Spines of America Story Mission) did not count for me as a home robbery, I robbed everything including the $150 secret stash from chimney. However, I did this via replay and not on first play. Maybe it counts only on first play? Regardless, not reliable if you can’t redo it.
PeRoBiUm says
In Carmory dell during the mission you can also threathen the person on the 2nd floor and he will show you a secret stash under his bed worth $150 might this affect if it counts towards the trophy?
PowerPyx says
I suppose that might be it. I did not threaten anyone, just stole $150 from the chimney. For other homesteads you sometimes have to threaten people for them to tell you where the stash is – so this would make perfect sense for Carmory Dell.
leptonic says
I can confirm for Watson’s Cabin stealing the shotgun is enough for the stash, you don’t even need to wait for the 4 sons to show. This could be very helpful and faster.
Anyway excellent work PP, your guides have been very useful in my journey. Keep up the hard work buddy! 10/10 on that
Trophy_hunter says
You can still acess the side room on Aberdeen Pig Farm even if the door is locked. I blew out the window with dynamite and climbed in. The money was there and “Breaking and Entering” trophy popped for me at that moment.
PS4VSXBOX says
So we’re just ignore the fact about Catfish Jacksons being part of a another missable trophy during chapter 4, Money Lending & Other Sins (V). Lucky I didn’t rob his cabin and kill the guy earlier on, or else who knows if this would’ve made the mission unavailable and what not.
PS4VSXBOX says
So I did some investigation on this problem. Even if you have killed the father and/or son before chapter 4, you will still be able to collect the debt with or without them for the Money Lending and Other Sins (V) honour mission. No idea if you will still get the Lending a Hand trophy, as it’s a completely different scenario as to robbing and/or killing them beforehand.
Hunter says
I know right, this catfish Jackson one is confusing. Left d pad says home robbery, yet I see people all over saying it’s also a debt mission for Strauss, (I’m on chapter 3). What are you suppose to do? Also I have that shotgun, so do I pick it up or leave it whenever I’m suppose to do this?
Snake2410 says
I got the trophy after only doing 3 of the 7 on the list, and habe not done Javiers homestead robbery mission yet either. Wondering if Houseas second mission might have conted towards it, unless doing one and then reloading counts the first one. I did both versions of the Aberdeen Farm, the table and just straight up robbing them.
xAshenLightx says
I went to Aberdeen Pig Farm in Epilogue 1. I got the stash in the back, but the achievement didn’t pop. ***POSSIBLE SPOILER***
I went into the house had the dinner, and got drugged. After waking up went back to the house got a secret stash, and the Achievement popped for me.
xAshenLightx says
Not sure maybe it counted as 2 robberies.
PowerPyx says
Okay either it counts as 2 or this is glitched on Xbox. I had other Xbox players report the same thing. On PS4 the money stash from the back of the house definitely counts. I’m gonna add a note to it that players should also do the dinner to be sure.
xAshenLightx says
Just to be clear it was on PS4
sebo939 says
This trophy is buggy as hell, i collected only the stash in Aberdeen Pig Farm and the shotgun in Watson’s Cabin. Trophy didn’t pop. I returned to the Watson’s Cabin, have a scene with 4 sons of the lady, kill them and her too, collect the stash and still didn’t pop, i returned to the Aberdeen Pig Farm, had a dinner with family, passed out, came back to the house, killed the family, collected the money behind the painting and i finnally achieved the trophy
Martti says
You can do this trophy also after beating story. No need to loot all things.
Dillon says
Can I rob the shotgun at chez porter before you can unlock it the gunsmiths.
Devin Closser says
There is a bunch of money down a well at Bear Claw in New Austin. And in a burned down house on Clemens Point near the horse fence.
chasity says
hey, while robbing the catfish jackson’s i got the stash (chimney) and then left but remembered i had forgotten the cigarette cards, so i went back. i was able to re-threaten the son (after tying the dad up) and he told me where his dad’s lock box was for a second stash!
Frankie L Goucher says
If you are in chapter 4 do the cow rustling companion with uncle when get there kill the guys with bow real quick and quietly then go into home and go to first bedroom hes asleep next to a caraco sniper rifle s as ve before oi re doing mission. Cuz he wakes let him briefly touch the. CArico kill him and now you got brand new carico upgradeable and says owned now at gun store I dont like it anyway I’m looking for a reapting shotgun or Litchfield repeater. I find it hard to believe all npcs and exsp new austin residents are carrying less powerful guns there not locked for them … I wish I could tell what type a gun the npc is holding before doing anything
dylan says
Those 4 brothers where the sons of the old lady that was there you gotta react quick to them and you’ll kill them theres nothing really much in that place anyways
Cat says
I did the first 5 in the epilogue and it got me the trophy just fine. Luckily the two guys in the Van Horn mansion were there on my first attempt.
AKDC says
I’m having trouble looting everything in Aberdeen Farm because the game bugs out whenever I try to grab the Premium Cigarettes at the top drawer.
GA says
I missed the south door at Aberdeen’s, but was able to get into the room by shooting the window to the right of the door out. The stash was still there.
ErykKorn says
Trophy popped for me after robbing third place. How lucky I was fellas.
joe says
i went to Aberdean pig farm and the man did not talk to me do i need money in order for him to speak to me?
