Chapter 16
Escape from the island
At the start of the chapter you’ll be in Luis’ laboratory with Ashley. Head through the doors back to the prior room and boost Ashley up on the left to have her push down a ladder.
Treasure: Velvet Blue
On the walkway above look to the ceiling to spot a hanging cage. Shoot it down to obtain a Velvet Blue.
Follow the path back into the sanctuary, which is now full of rubble. You first want to follow the path to the left which leads back to the front where the altar is, watching for the Novistador camouflaged along the way.
Treasure: Iluminados Pendant
Behind the altar where you rescued Ashley in Chapter 15, you can pick up the Iluminados Pendant which is attached to the front of the stone slab.
Treasure: Gold Ingot
Make your way back and climb up the other path out of the Sanctuary, then follow the path to where the Merchant is located. Before the merchant room is the final treasure chest which contains a Gold Ingot. If you collected all prior treasure on the island you’ll receive the trophy/achievement Burglar .
Head into the Merchant room if needed and take care of any business you need. This is the final Merchant in the game and the only combat encounter you have next is the final boss, so get prepared with what you need. If you didn’t feel like buying a Rocket Launcher before, it makes the final boss quite easy if you can afford it.
General Note: Keep a Manual Save here at this merchant. After the story and if you found all 16 Castellans, you can buy the Primal Knife from Main Menu > Bonuses > Extra Content Shop. Then reload this Chapter 16 manual save, pull the knife from the Typewriter Storage, fully upgrade it to make it unbreakable, finish last story section again and create a new “finished” save, then start New Game+ with this unbreakable Primal Knife. This would allow you to combine your 2nd run into a knife/pistol only + don’t talk to merchant playthrough (because maxed out Primal Knife is unbreakable you never need to talk to merchant to repair it). For now just keep a Manual Save before spending money on other weapons so that you can make use of this save later if you want.
Defeat Saddler
Phase 1:
At the start of the fight with Saddler, you’ll be on a raised platform, with him walking after you. Walk along the path quickly and drop down to the lower area where you’ll do most of the fighting in this phase. He has a large eye on each of his 4 legs. For this first part if you’re fighting him with normal weapons you want to shoot these eyes to destroy them. Once all 4 eyes are destroyed he’ll be temporarily stunned, allowing you to run up to his face for a melee attack for big damage. He then regenerates the eyes on his legs and you can repeat this sequence.
His main attacks consist of spitting black goo at you, either in three vertical streams or in a horizontal line. When he does the vertical streams it’s easiest to move to a different level of the platform to avoid them, whereas if he does the horizontal stream you can just crouch to avoid it.
Eventually, he may jump up to the middle platform, and if you leave him alone he’ll start calling in a large number of Novistador. You want to try and shoot any one of the eyes on his legs to stop this, which prevents a large number from appearing. Try to clean up any that do appear before he comes back down and starts attacking you.
If the phase goes on for long enough he’ll eventually stomp on a second of two of the platform which destroys it. This just reduces the area you have to walk, normally meaning you can’t circle all the way around.
If you did end up buying a Rocket Launcher for this, you can carefully shoot it at him, which should basically instantly end the phase.
Phase 2:
Saddler transforms again and you’ll now be surrounded by tentacles in a small area. The tentacles that attack you are generally easy to avoid, as they are either horizontal swipes which you dodge with a prompt, or slams which occur on either the left or right side of the area, so just move to the opposite side when the tentacle is vertical in the air. During this section keep shooting at the large eye in the center to damage him. Eventually, Ada throws a Rocket Launcher (Special) down at you. Pick this up and shoot it at the eye to end the boss fight.
Escape from the island
After the fight with Saddler you’ll be back with Ashley, and have just under 3 minutes to reach the end of the path and escape the island. Don’t worry about enemies here as none actually attack you, just keep following the path.
Castellan 16
You’ll go through a door and Leon automatically pushes off the enemy that grabs you. In this room go towards the back right corner and you can spot the final Castellan sitting on the boxes. If you destroyed all prior ones you’ll now earn the trophy/achievement Revolution Wind-up .
Keep following the path to the end and interact with the water scooter.
Trophy: Smooth Escape (Escape on the water scooter without taking any damage)
While riding the jetski don’t let the health counter in the bottom right corner take any damage. Slightly clipping a wall and seeing sparks is fine as long as the health of the jetski does not decline. You have a lot more time here than needed so you can slow down whenever you want and just take it slow. If you take damage, pause the game and load the last autosave to respawn at the start of the section, doing this is fine for the trophy.
Once you reach the exit and are back outside you will have completed the game!
New Game+ & Bonus Weapons
After this your weapon counter under Challenges > Feats should show 25/29. The last 4 weapons are from New Game Plus and from the Bonus Menu under Extra Content Shop.
- Infinite Rocket Launcher: Bought in New Game+ for 2 Million ptas. You can sell your existing weapons at the first merchant, especially your upgraded weapons fetch a lot of money. If you were lucky and got the “X% off Rocket Launcher” weapon charm from shooting range you can equip that and it gives a discount for the infinite rocket launcher too.
- Chicago Sweeper: Unlock by completing the main story on Professional mode with an A rank. Buy for 1000 CP.
- Handcannon: Unlock by completing a new game in the main story on Professional mode without using any bonus weapons. Buy for 1000 CP.
- Primal Knife: Unlocked by destroying all 16 Castellans. Buy for 1000 CP.
This finishes Chapter 16 in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
