Exospines are one of your main equipment types that can dictate how you decide to play the game as they can boost your defense and damage, or even make the parry/dodge windows larger. There are a total of 12 Exospines that you can find, and even have MK2 variants when playing New Game+ which will make them stronger.
To upgrade them, you need to use the 3 different tiers of Nano Elements, as well as gold. Each Exospine has 3 tiers and every time you upgrade it, it will get a new perk to help you in combat. Nano Elements can be found in crates, dropped by enemies, or purchased from venders. You’ll need to upgrade a total of 10 different Exospines to max tier in order to unlock the Perfect Exospine trophy.
#1 – Chain-Type Exospine
Eidos 7
After defeating Abaddon, you can go down to the 2nd Floor of the Parking Tower. There will be a Cricket Boomer roaming near the crate that has the exospine.
#2 – Grenadier-Type Exospine
Eidos 7
After riding the monorail to the flooded area, go left from the camp and then cross the bridge on the right and go to the left. You’ll be able to drop down a yellow ledge and climb across to another plaza. There will be a mutated hydro roaming the area. Once the enemies are dealt with, follow the railing where you came from to the left and there will be a crate on the ground with the exospine.
#3 – Protection-Type Exospine
Eidos 7
In the Construction Zone inside the building with the generator that turns on the elevator, there will be a ledge you can climb up to get to the crate with the exospine.
#4 – Impact-Type Exospine
Wasteland
Down the pathway guarded by some Hedgeboars and Boarlets, there will be a crate past the fast travel spot. When you try to open it, you’ll have to fight off 3 waves of enemies. Be careful here as you can very easily get overrun and die. After they’re defeated, you can open the crate to get the exospine.

#9 – Beta Trace-Type Exospine
Matrix 11
After opening the gate with the fusion cell that ends up leading to the living space area, go down the right path through the gate. At the end of the path there will be a crate that has the exospine, being guarded by a few enemies.
#10 – Recovery-Type Exospine
Great Desert

There are 12 exospines not 11. The guide is missing: Recovery-type exospine. Found in the great desert. It’s located next to the rappel point at the abandoned overpass station (just north from the solar tower)
