Introduction
Welcome to the Tales of Kenzera: Zau Trophy Guide! Inspired by the main game designer’s personal life, Tales of Kenzera: Zau tells the story of Zau and his journey to reclaim his Baba’s spirit from the God of Death during which he’ll learn the importance of acceptance and letting go. The game is a classic metroidvania 2D platformer in which you’ll travel across different regions, featuring a variety of collectibles and platforming challenges. Most of these can only be completed after acquiring the necessary abilities which all come automatically from story progress. Most trophies come from collectibles and only a few are story-related. For the Platinum trophy you need 100% game completion.
Step 1: Complete the Story
For your first step, focus on playing through the story. Some of the collectible-related areas cannot be visited on your first run through the regions as you’re missing the necessary abilities. By the time you have to journey into the Realm of the Dead, you will have acquired all the abilities to clean up any remaining collectibles and trophies. You can choose to clean things up before venturing into the Realm of the Dead or after completing the game. Either way, check Tales of Kenzera: Zau Collectible Guide for a region-by-region guide to all collectibles.
Step 2: Clean up Collectibles and Trophies (optional)
If you’ve chosen to complete the story first, now is the time to clean up any remaining collectibles and trophies. Open the map and see which regions still need 100% completion. If you clean things up now, check Tales of Kenzera: Zau Collectible Guide.

Shaman of All Trades Upgrade all Skills |
||
Tales of Kenzera: Zau features two Skill trees. Each Skill tree powers up one of your Shaman Masks (Moon and Sun). To unlock this trophy, you need to acquire enough Skill points to unlock them all. Skill points are earned through defeating enemies, cracking purple orbs, and finding collectibles. Going for 100% completion ensures you earn more than enough Skill Points to unlock all Skills.
Honour the Ancestors Unlock all Abilities |
||
Tales of Kenzera: Zau features 6 Hadithi (Abilities). All Abilities are unmissable, story-related unlocks, without which you cannot visit all areas in the game. The Abilities are Bamba, Akida, Zawadi, Tawa, Kabili, and Tshukudu. So just play through the story and you’ll get them all automatically.
Perk Up Unlock all Trinket Slots |
||
Tales of Kenzera: Zau features 4 Trinket Slots. The more Slots you unlock, the more Trinkets you can equip at one time. Each Trinket Slot is unlocked after completing one of the trials during a Spirit Ritual. Simply completing all Spirit Rituals as part of your 100% completion will grant you this trophy. For all Spirit Ritual locations, check Tales of Kenzera: Zau Collectibles Guide.
Soulful Unlock all Spirit Segments |
||
Tales of Kenzera: Zau features 5 Spirit Segments. The more Spirit Segments you have, the more often you can use Moon’s Lunar Blast and Sun’s Supernova powers. Each Spirit Segment is unlocked after completing one of the trials during a Spirit Ritual. Simply completing all Spirit Rituals as part of your 100% completion will grant you this trophy. For all Spirit Ritual locations, check Tales of Kenzera: Zau Collectibles Guide.
Quick Draw Perfect Recharge 10 times |
||
First, you must buy the Perfect Recharge skill which costs 1 Skill point. Then, switch to the Moon mask and start shooting Light Charges until the counter gets to 0. When it does, a recharge bar will appear above Zau’s head. If you look close, a small section of the recharge bar has a sweet spot. If you press while the recharge progress bar is in that sweet spot, you will instantly refill Zac’s Light Charges. Do this another 9 times to unlock this trophy.
I am the Moon Defeat 4 enemies with a single Lunar Blast |
||
Lunar Blast is the Moon’s most destructive skill. You must kill at at least 4 different enemies within one Lunar Blast. To unleash a Lunar Blast, you must have at least two Spirit Segments fully charged up. While this trophy may unlock naturally as you play through the story, one way to unlock it is to stand at either end of an enemy encounter (close to the light barriers) and then release your Lunar Blast. While the Lunar Blast is doing its job, use the left stick to move it around the section to hit and hopefully kill as many enemies as possible. If you haven’t earned this trophy yet by the end of the game, you can replay any of the trials from any of the Spirit Rituals to get it. Lastly, it is encouraged to set the game to Relaxed difficulty to ensure enemies die more quickly.
I am the Sun Defeat 4 enemies with a single Supernova |
||
Supernova is the Sun’s most destructive skill. You must kill at least 4 different enemies within one Supernova. To unleash a Supernova, you must have at least two Spirit Segments fully charged up. While this trophy may unlock naturally as you play through the story, one way to unlock it is to stand in the middle of an enemy encounter section and then release your Supernova. While the Supernova is doing its job, enemies will rush towards you and their health bar will progressively whittle down. Alternatively, put yourself between 4 enemies and then activate the Supernova. If you haven’t earned this trophy yet by the end of the game, you can replay any of the trials from any of the Spirit Rituals to get it. Lastly, it is encouraged to set the game to Relaxed difficulty to ensure enemies die more quickly. |
Quique says
I am the Sun trophy bug? I kill 4 or 5 in one single Supernova and it doesn’t pop
neofx64 says
Me too
Footos22 says
Worked fine for me. Did it with the basic one in one of the first closed arena fights without even trying for it.
Fouad Almalki says
Same for me. I killed 4 enemies with single Supernova and I didn’t get the trophy.
Neme says
Thx for the guide
Narutogoku says
Anyone else not able to get the codex trophy to pop?
Tom says
Proceed until you fight the boss in the last last area. Once the fight starts it will pop if you have everything
Will says
You need to enter the last chapter and fight the last Boss one more time – there is a codex entry for both
Dobrogi says
Is the codex trophy bugged? Did everything and the trophy wont pop.
ACoolGuy says
You probably realised it by now but you get a codex at the beginning of the final boss.
Marco says
I did everything before starting ACT IVm so the last voice of codex I had to unlock was the last Area.
You need the game to make a save with you codex at 100% to unlock trophy. In my case, it popped when the last fight began.
Zacry072 says
The supernova trophy isn’t popping for me. Just did it twice.
Federico says
Hi PP,
Quick question. I am missing one codex location piece for the trophy Lore of the Land. Can you please help me by sharing which one is? Its in the codex screen, location, and thje one i am missing is the last one (the one next to The Itshokan Deadlands).
Thanks!
Federico says
I think I got it. If you dont have all codex entries and you enter the last part of the game (realm of the dead), then whichever codex you get their doesnt count.
In short words, once you have all codex entries, enter realm of the dead and trophy will pop.
John E. Quick III says
This game reminds me of Outland for PS3.
Steven says
Need 1 more collectable to fully 100% maps. Lever is pushed but bridge not down to allow me to cross for last Echo, Lament of the Triptych. Didn’t want to start chapter 4 without it.
Night gamer says
Anyone else is having trouble with the HUD? Mine disappeared
Alex says
How can i activate spirits attacks? I know it’s pressing l3+R3. I’m at the end of the game and couldn’t activate them
Jeff says
I Am The Sun appears to be bugged for sure. Count me as one more person who killed 4 enemies with it and got nothing.
Jeff says
Weirdly enough, I just got it against what appeared to be only 3 enemies. Some small ones (tokoloshe) and it popped. Very odd.
Marcus says
Great Guide, as usual.
What a fun and enjoyable game, glad I’ve played it. Kinda short, but nice.
