The Last of Us 2 All Weapon Upgrades

June 18, 2020 by PowerPyx 17 Comments

There are 35 Weapon Upgrades to unlock in The Last of Us 2 (TLOU2) across 12 Weapons. However, 2 of the Weapons have no upgrades at all, so it’s really just 10 you can upgrade. In order to craft new upgrades you need a Workbench and Parts. Workbenches are found at specific locations in certain chapters, usually in plain sight on the main path. The Parts are Screws you find everywhere in the game, but most frequently near Workbenches and in Safes.

How many Parts do you need to unlock all Weapon Upgrades? 1920 Parts is the total amount you will need! But it’s not possible to fully upgrade everything in a single playthrough. At most you can get to about 80% upgrade completion if you locate every single Part. It’s mandatory to play through New Game+ again to finish the remaining upgrades, at least until the second half of the game. It’s best to upgrade the late-game weapons first. Then on your 2nd playthrough you can upgrade the weapons that unlock earlier into the game, which means less chapters to replay. Crafting all Weapon Upgrades also unlocks the trophy Arms Master trophy. You must have all Upgrades at the same time for the trophy to pop and can’t use Chapter Select to get missing ones.

The list below shows all weapons in the order you obtain them with the required amount of Parts in brackets.

This is so helpful! Question: Like the first game do you need to upgrade later weapons first? So, when you start new game plus do you have to play to the point in the game where you unlock that certain weapon to upgrade it, like the first game? Thanks.

Upgrading the last weapon first will save you some time, yes. You won’t need to replay quite as many chapters then.
I’ve added a note about this to the intro section of the guide. Thanks for your question! 🙂

      I had this question aswel!

So just to confirm if when I’ve maxed out Ellie I can rush through the rest of the game until I get to Abby as long as all Ellie’s weapons and skills are completed?

Correct. Once you got Ellie fully upgraded you can rush past everything else.

Is it necessary to find weapons in the second passage or will it be open for the missing upgrade immediately?

The parts aren’t shared between them, so upgrade how you want to.

You cannot do that. This is directly answered in the text.

I just noticed that the grounded upgrades for the RIFLE from ellie are different. There is no damage upgrade.

Yes. I think you cannot get the achievement if you play the second time on grounded :-(

Hi, when you say late game weapons first, at which point/chapter/weapon, should we be looking out for, to start the upgrade process. First time playing through, unsure of how I’d know this. Appreciate any and all clarification!
