In The Quarry, you must kill everyone for the “Hackett’s Quarry Massacre” trophy and achievement. This is the worst / bad ending in the game where nobody survives. This walkthrough will guide you through the necessary steps to achieve the worst ending in The Quarry. Killing the Hacketts isn’t necessary for the trophy, they don’t count. Only your playable characters must die.
It’s recommended you do the Best Ending “Everyone Survived” first. Follow this Walkthrough first and then continue here after: The Quarry Walkthrough (Everyone Survives). Doing it that way around is more effective to minimize the playthroughs needed for the platinum trophy. This guide assumes you have beaten the game once, there are some spoilers ahead. To get the trophy for everyone dying only the playable characters count (Jacob, Nick, Ryan, Dylan, Max, Kaitlyn, Emma, Abigail, Laura). The Hacketts such as the police officer don’t count, it’s okay if they survive.
We will combine this walkthrough with setting up the other ending-related trophies for only Kaitlyn surviving & only Ryan surviving. You can do those quickly via Chapter Select afterward. Kaitlyn’s ending will then only require replaying Chapter 10 and Ryan requires only replaying Chapters 9-10 after your “Everyone Died” run. For dialogues pick the opposite of your “Everyone Survived” run. Most dialogue doesn’t matter unless it’s pointed out below. Also see the note about Chapter 1 below which can save you another playthrough for the “Only Kaitlyn Survived” ending.
Trophies Earned from this Playthrough:
- Lovers’ Quarrel (Nick killed Abi)
- Hackett’s Quarry Massacre (Killed everyone)
Video Guide
Recommended “Kill Everyone” Playthrough:
- Optional – Chapter 1 (*preparation for Trophy: The Final Girl – important to not require another full playthrough): When Abigail and Emma are at the cabins talking about whether to leave their bags or to break in, choose the RIGHT option “BREAK IN”. Then as Abi check the left side of the cabin for a plush teddy that makes noise, choose to “KEEP” it. This is mandatory to set up another ending-related trophy “The Final Girl” to get it quickly via chapter select after our “Kill Everyone” playthrough. If you were to miss this you’d have to do another full playthrough – the plush teddy can be used in Chapter 10 to trap the monster in the freezer and save Kaitlyn as the sole survivor for another trophy “The Final Girl”. If you followed the Everyone Survived Walkthrough for your first run you should already have gotten the toy and can skip this and start replaying from Chapter 4. You can check under Paths > Down the Rabbit Hole > 3rd image “Abi put the forgotten Toy in her bag”.
- Optional – Chapter 3 (*preparation for Trophy: Blood Pact for infecting everyone): After Abi and Nick get attacked by a monster in the woods, HELP NICK > QTE: > RUN > Smash / > DON’T “Climb Tree” (DON’T press / – let timer run out) > Abi will hide behind rocks instead > FAIL THE HOLD BREATH EVENT (results in Abi being bitten and infected). This isn’t mandatory to get her killed but it can save you from replaying more chapters later for getting everyone infected.
- Chapter 4 (Jacob Death): Shortly after the start of Chapter 4 you will play as Ryan and are back at the campfire with the others. There will be some noise coming from the bushes and Ryan can aim and shoot the gun. Here you must shoot the gun twice at the bushes, Ryan thinks it’s a monster in the bushes but it’s really Jacob who gets shot and killed. Pick this: SHOOT GUN > INSISTENT > SHOOT GUN. Your next choice doesn’t matter, after a brief scene you will see Jacob dead in the bushes.
- Chapter 4 (Emma Death): While playing as Emma you will automatically enter a tree house (doesn’t matter if you take the staircase or follow the ground path, you end up in the tree house either way). For the first choice in the tree house pick “OPEN TRAPDOOR” which results in a monster dropping through the trapdoor onto Emma and rips her to pieces.
- Optional – Chapter 5 (*preparation for Trophy: The Final Girl): after Kaitlyn encounters the big hunter guy in the lodge you will see Abi & Nick talking again. Choose: CONFIDENT > INTRIGUED > HIDE > Hold Breath successfully > results in Abi leaving her bag behind in the kitchen, with the teddy toy in it that she picked up in the locked Chapter 1 cabin (can check under Paths > Down the Rabbit Hole > 3rd image “Abi put the forgotten Toy in her bag”). You need this to be left behind in the kitchen so that Kaitlyn can use it to distract the monster in Chapter 10 for the other ending-related trophy “The Final Girl”.
- Chapter 5 (Preparation for Dylan Death): if you followed the advice from Chapter 1 and broke into the cabins as Abi to take the plush toy, then in Chapter 5 Dylan automatically gets bitten by the monster in the radio hut. Here you have to cut off Dylan’s hand with the chainsaw (after he gets bitten: “DESPERATE” > “CHAINSAW”). If he gets infected and you don’t cut it off this will change some things later. So to stay in line with this walkthrough, cut off his hand with chainsaw, we’ll kill him in Chapter 9. If you don’t cut off his hand the infection will spread and you won’t be able to kill him in Chapter 9.
- Chapter 6 (Abigail Death): In the pool house where you play as Abigail, after talking to Nick he will get angry and throws Abi against the wall (dialogue choices don’t matter). She will then aim the shotgun at him. Do NOT shoot at Nick (don’t press button). He will then turn into a monster and tears Abigail’s head off.
- Chapter 7 (Preparation for Laura & Ryan Deaths): When Laura can free-roam in the police station, go back to bed immediately and go to sleep (DON’T pick up the syringe from upstairs locker). The next day she will fake being in pain to lure Travis into her cell. Here you have to SHOOT TRAVIS in the prison cell with his pistol. To do this: Press (grab gun from Travis’ holster) > (evade Travis trying to grab back gun) > DEMANDING > SHOOT TRAVIS. You will then leave him bleeding in his cell (he doesn’t die, he’ll survive the bullet and when leaving the prison you’ll get a popup on the right saying “Travis will kill you”). This makes it so he kills Laura and Ryan at the end of Chapter 9. To be clear, neither Travis, Laura nor Ryan actually die right here in Chapter 7. This is only to set up their deaths as a consequence later in Chapter 9. Alternatively, you can also shoot Travis by failing the 2 QTE inputs after taking his gun, then he gets automatically shot in the struggle.
- Chapter 8 (Nick Death): As Laura & Ryan you will come to a red light tunnel where you find a monster in a cage and you’ll hear the cop arguing with an old woman upstairs. Laura will aim her gun at the monster in the cage, DON’T stop her (during the interrupt event press nothing). Then Laura shoots the monster. It turns out this monster was actually Nick who turned into a monster earlier in Chapter 6. This takes care of Nick.
- Chapter 9 (Dylan Death): At the scrapyard while operating the crane as Dylan, pick the following choices: WARN KAITLYN > > SOUND HORN > Fail QTE (don’t press buttons while holding the torch). This results in the monster attacking Dylan, breaking through the windshield of the crane and shredding Dylan to pieces. Failing the QTE is important here so that Dylan doesn’t fend off the monster with the torch. If Dylan became infected in Chapter 5 but you didn’t cut off his arm, then as a result his infection would have spread and the monster may not kill him now.
- Chapter 9 (Ryan Death): After Laura & Ryan find a monster in the attic they will fall through the floor. The monster then attacks Ryan and he grabs the shotgun. SHOOT the monster – this is mandatory to lift Max’s curse so you can play as him and trigger his death in Chapter 10. After Ryan shoots the monster, Travis will stab Laura (result of Laura shooting Travis in Chapter 7 prison cell with pistol). When Travis attacks Ryan, pick “AGGRESSIVE” > Fail QTE > Travis shoots Ryan in the face with shotgun, killing him.
- Chapter 9 (Laura Death): Laura’s Death happens in the same scene as Ryan’s. If Laura shot Travis in the Chapter 7 prison cell, then Travis will stab her to death immediately after Ryan shoots the monster (the monster was Chris).
- Chapter 10 (Max Death): If you followed the above steps as suggested, then Ryan shot Monster Chris at the end of Chapter 9. This will have lifted Max’s curse and you start Chapter 10 playing him. As Max walk to the end of the island, during the cutscene at the docks pick “SWIM TO SHORE”. Immediately in the next cutscene when Max arrives at the shore a monster will attack and kills him with a bite to the neck.
- Chapter 10 (Kaitlyn Death): When the monster attacks in the lodge, during the first choice pick “WAIT” (don’t run), then DON’T shoot the monster. This results in the monster smashing Kaitlyn on the floor until she dies from blunt trauma, then it eats her body.
- That’s all deaths and the game should end after Kaitlyn died. The Hacketts don’t need to be dead for the Hackett’s Quarry Massacre trophy (killed everyone), they don’t count.
- If Travis didn’t kill Laura in Chapter 9 they will work together to hunt down Silas. Then in Chapter 10 as Laura don’t shoot at Silas during the final scene and he’ll kill Laura.
- After this playthrough you can use Chapter Select to start replaying at Chapter 10 to do the trophy “The Final Girl” for only Kaitlyn surviving. If you picked up the plush teddy as Abi in the locked cabin in Chapter 1, then Kaitlyn can use it to lure the monster into the kitchen freezer to survive the encounter (Choose RUN > BEAM > Smash / > RUN > HIDE > enters kitchen > throw the teddy into the freezer to trap Monster Caleb in it).
- To get the trophy “Last Man Standing” for only Ryan surviving use Chapter Select once again after Kaitlyn’s ending to replay Chapter 9-10. Don’t pull the knife from Ryan’s Torso > when Bobby chases Ryan be sure to smash / to block the door with the cabinet (otherwise he pulls the knife from Ryan) > after Ryan gets inevitably caught by Bobby you must STAB him (makes it so he dies at end of Chapter 9 from Monster Chris, Bobby must die then or else he will kill Ryan) > At end of Chapter 9 Ryan must shoot Monster Chris > Travis kills Laura with the shard (if she shot him with pistol in Chapter 7 prison) > Ryan must shoot Travis (otherwise he kills Ryan). Then in Chapter 10 kill Max and Kaitlyn like before and Ryan will be the sole survivor.

JP says
Is it possible to load chapter 10 and kill everyone?
PowerPyx says
No.
DirtyT says
this isn’t correct.
Chapter 7 (Preparation for Laura & Ryan Deaths): When Laura can free-roam in the police station, go back to bed immediately and go to sleep (DON’T pick up the syringe from upstairs locker). The next day she will fake being in pain to lure Travis into her cell. Here you have to SHOOT TRAVIS in the prison cell with his pistol. When he comes to check on Laura on the floor grab his pistol, then fail the QTE to shoot him
You need to pass all the QTE events then it will give you option to select SHOOT TRAVIS. if you fail the QTE Travis will take back the gun from you.
PowerPyx says
Failing the QTE definitely works. I just redid it to double-check. Do note that it’s the QTE AFTER grabbing the gun (as the text you quoted says “grab his pistol, then fail the QTE to shoot him”). After grabbing the gun I failed the next 2 QTEs, 1st Travis takes the gun back, 2nd Laura tries to take it and in the struggle Travis gets shot automatically.
Winning the QTE and then during the dialogue choosing to shoot him works as well. Either option gets you the same outcome.
I’ll reword that section to make it clearer exactly what inputs and choices to press one by one. I think that’s where the confusion came from. In the video I used footage from my run where I won all QTEs so I’ll adjust the text to be in line with that variant. But it definitely works to also shoot Travis by failing all the QTE inputs (after grabbing the gun).
cory says
hmm i followed the steps for dylan death warned kaitlyn sounded horn and failed mash qte but the werewolf did not kill him. im think its because i did not cut off his arm.
PowerPyx says
As I recommend in the guide you should cut off his arm in Chapter 5.
In another playthrough I didn’t break into the locked cabin in Chapter 1 which led to Dylan not being attacked in Chapter 5 and having both his arms intact. The monster still killed him in Chapter 9 with the exact same inputs as when he had 1 arm amputated. But in that case Dylan never got infected to begin with.
I suppose if you let the infection spread in Chapter 5 (didn’t cut off arm to stop the infection) the monster in Chapter 9 can smell Dylan is one of his kind (late-stage infection, Dylan about to turn into a monster) and that’s why he doesn’t get attacked.
cory says
next kaitlyn death scene wait dont shoot all the monster did was swipe at my arm n ran away
PowerPyx says
That is a result of Dylan not dying, Kaitlyn can get infected at the scrapyard if you got a different outcome there. That’s why the monster ignores her.
You need to replay from Chapter 5 and follow each point in the guide (cut off Dylan’s arm). If you skip a step some stuff will get messed up.
Caveman says
I ran into a problem with the guides. From what I’ve read in the guides the second run is supposed to be the “Everyone Dies” run combined with getting all the clues for the trophy. The problem i have is if you let Emma die in chapter 4 according to the guide then you can’t get the clue she is supposed to pick up at the end of chapter 6. Am I missing something?
PowerPyx says
That was an oversight on my part, I already changed it to combine it with the “Everyone Infected” run instead (on that run you can keep everyone alive until later chapters to play their sections). On the “Everyone Dies” run you indeed can’t get the Chapter 6 Emma collectible.
If you already replayed Chapter 2 to grab the missing collectibles you can skip it on the Everyone Infected playthrough, so doesn’t make a difference in the end.
RuffioLostBoy says
On the Everyone Dies run, does it matter if you let Laura bite Ryan? I just like the dialogue better that way. I already did the triphy for Laura and Max to be reunited, and Everyone Lives, just worried if he’s infected, that somehow he might not die later in the chapter. Shotgun has silver rounds in it right? I don’t want to mess up the whole run. Haha
Michael Cooney says
If laura shoots Travis in 7 then laura biting Ryan doesn’t matter as Travis will kill both Ryan and laura in 9
Human__Ramen says
I was doing some theory crafting because I want to see if it’s possible to complete the game with everyone dead (or at least almost everyone dead) and I believe there might be a way to have Travis, Laura and Ryan all die.
As Ryan, don’t pull the knife out, go through his section like normal, stab Bobby so that he, Constance and Jedediah die, and refuse Laura’s offer to bite him. Shooting Chris is a necessity to get to Max, so that’s that, and Ryan should die of blood loss shortly thereafter.
As Laura, during Chapter 7, get the syringe from the upstairs locker and drug Travis. During their confrontation in Chapter 9, after Ryan shoots Chris, Laura transforma back to human and Travis doesn’t kill her, which leads to the last segment where Travis and Laura are hunting down Silas. When you DO get to Silas, don’t raise your weapon at him to get the struggle between Travis and Laura which kills Travis. When given the chance to shoot Silas again, don’t, and he should kill Laura. Since Ryan died back at the Hackett House, he can’t give Laura the blood vial so she can’t be protected by that.
This is just a theory, and it might be possible to have all three present during the confrontation with Silas if Ryan didn’t reach Nick in time back in Chapter 3, or if he chose not to shoot Bobby and pick up the blood vial, but if this is actually possible, then only Caleb and Silas should survive, making the minimum amount of people survived 2.
Thraxx says
This already is perfectly possible, and without having to do that whole Silas segment at the end: do all steps according to the “kill everyone” run, but make sure to kill off all the Hacketts on your way as well (it’s noted in the guide that they don’t count towards the trophy so they’re not mentioned, but you can still do it anyway).
For example Constance and Jedediah are as simple as confronting them and winning their QTE whenever it pops up. For Bobby, don’t pull out the knife with Ryan so you can stab him, sealing his fate during the Chris-Laura-Ryan-Travis standoff.
Additionally, have Laura shoot Travis in chapter 7 so he’ll always kill Laura no matter what. Refuse to be bitten with Ryan so he’ll bleed out eventually, but before he does, make sure you also a) shoot Chris to be able to kill Max, b) after Travis kills Laura grab the gun, be aggressive, don’t fail the QTE and shoot Travis (instead of vice versa).
That’s all Hacketts except Caleb dead, and if you managed to get all the other teens killed when they should’ve been, that’s the result you wanted – and nobody will even attempt to go after Silas, because noone’s left to do so.
rojocapo says
If you miss the QTE after the struggle in the beginning of chapter 9, Laura gets shot. Does it matter if we kill her off earlier? I’m going to follow the walkthrough but just curious.
rojocapo says
Never mind, she doesn’t die, everything carries on normally
Michael Cooney says
You can also kill Emma and abi in chapter 8 when Emma is infected she’ll kill abi and then you can shoot Emma with a silver bullet
Chuck Berry's Ding-a-ling says
You need Abi to throw you the silver shotgun shells though. So can’t kill both in that scene.
Melissa Santos says
Does it matter if you take off Dylans hand with a shotgun vs a chainsaw?
Chuck Berry's Ding-a-ling says
Doesn’t make any difference.
Hubert says
I’ve noticed that the trophy for having Travis and Laura isn’t in any of the playtroughs, when should I do this? I know it happens in chapter 9 but what are the conditions for it to happen without getting in the way of other trophies?
PowerPyx says
Can be done via Chapter Select at any time / after any playthrough.
Don says
You can also kill Dylan in chapter 10 by choosing the wait option.
Don says
You can also kill Laura and Ryan by failing the QTE’s when Silas jumps on the car. Weather she shoots him or not. She still dies. Ryan dies due to the accident. Travis gets his head pulled off which causes the accident. This is my 6th play-through on this game. I’ve been through almost every possible end and choices of this game. Some are epic and run like a real live horror flick. But I only wish I had found your walkthroughs early to save me some. Thanks I will be using this for now on.
Max says
Does it matter if I do the “Everyone Dies” run first or the “Everyone is Infected”? I only ask, because while I was following your guide, my save was corrupted after finishing the “Everyone Lives” Walkthrough. So, regardless (and devastatingly), I had to start from the beginning. I know if everyone dies, you can’t get the Meddling Kids trophy because there are certain clues you can’t get when they’re dead. Wouldn’t it make more sense for me, then, to shoot for Meddling Kids and everyone is infected first? Then at the end of this round, I can start at chapter 4 to get the Everyone Dies trophy? Or am I missing something? Thanks!
Paul says
I’ve followed your walkthrough for everybody dies upto chapter 8. I go into the red room where the monster is, but when Emma goes to the cage to kill it(nick) the interrupt promt doesnt apear and Ryan stops her. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong
Niklas says
In chapter 4 when i play as Ryan and are supposed to kill jacob, he survives wherever i shoot. I done this thing 20 Times now and he still survives
Kevin says
Having the same issue. Any luck figuring out what happened?
Joel says
on the second shot you can see him slightly, if you shoot the bit that you can see you kill him.
PowerPyx says
You should see him dead afterward in the cutscene. See the video guide 🙂
Shrinivas says
Jacob still lives after shooting the bushes. Guys just dont’t use this guide. It’s a mess.
PowerPyx says
Means you didn’t shoot him / didn’t shoot the 2nd time. It’s all described correctly in the guide, I played through the game 20+ times and tested everything that can be done.
You see him dead immediately after shooting. If not, you didn’t shoot him / let time run out / shot at the wrong place.
There’s a video at the start of the guide showing it too.
Anna says
Leaving this here in case anybody else messes up Jacob’s death in chapter 4 (either by missing him with the shot or by having auto-aim assist activated and automatically succeeding in not shooting him…):
There is another chance to kill him in chapter 6!
He goes looking for Emma (who he won’t meet because we killed her in chapter 4 as per this guide), and will end up fleeing into the woods.
In the area with the traps, choose PULL FREE (do NOT choose to pry open!) and then FAIL the QTE. This will cause him to die. You can continue following the rest of the guide after this to get the trophy.
(You HAVE to fail that QTE because he will catch himself otherwise and then you will have to start this trophy over from scratch, because the only other chance for Jacob to die after this will mean leaving Nick alive.)
Additional note: While Jacob is running away on the wooden pathway at the beginning of this section, there are some QTEs that might or might not lead to his death if he fails them. I have not tried this, so I can’t say for sure, but the method described above 100% works, since that’s how I killed him and I did get the trophy later on.
Cr says
Saved my heart dude thanks! Should be added that you have to look for him or at least that you can kill him off in chapter 6
Joel says
I’m confused, Do I ignore all dialogue and QTE’s that aren’t highlighted in the walkthrough?
PowerPyx says
Only the decisions outlined here matter. Other dialogues don’t matter what you pick.
