Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty contains 31 boss fights. This Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Boss Guide will walk you through the best tactics to defeat all bosses in the game. They are listed in recommended level order.
The recommended build class is Earth or Fire. This build strikes a good balance between melee deflection and ranged casting. Earth’s spell Imposing Slab and Fire’s spell Burning Flamewave are great choices to slot in your Spell Set as they allow you to stun and attack enemies from a safe distance, while simultaneously giving yourself more time to deflect incoming attacks. This way you can sort of cheat the boss’s AI who will run into the spells for considerable Spirit and standard damage. The main strategy for most bosses is to cast magic, then retreat and deflect their incoming attacks, including their Critical Blows, to recharge your Spirit gauge, rinse and repeat. This will give you a massive boost in positive Spirit while they suffer considerable Spirit damage, potentially leaving them open for a Fatal Strike counterattack. Fatal Strikes will be your main way to deal actual damage and whittle down a boss’ health bar.
In Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty you may have to play more defensively than offensively. As such, counterattacking is not always a good idea. More often than not, you’ll be stuck in an enemy’s chain of attacks if you do. Better to cast a stunning spell, retreat, and wait for an enemy’s next set of attacks and get ready to deflect to recharge your Spirit meter. If you go for the suggested Earth build, focus on primarily leveling up your Earth Virtue. Not only does this indirectly affect your Phase’s attack power, but it also affects the equipment weight limit, allowing you equip better outfit pieces over time, and also the amount of Spirit you gain when deflecting an attack. Then, invest your Genuine Qi in the Metal Virtue, which over time reduces how much Spirt is consumed per spell cast and in the Wood Virtue, which affects your overall HP and how long your positive Spirit lasts.
As you play through the game, check Dragon Vein Crystals & Essences Locations Guide to increase the number of Dragon’s Cure Pots you can use and how much health is restored per use. For some boss fights, having all possible Dragon’s Cure Pots available can make a difference.
Additionally, feel free to rely on the Reinforcement system if you’re struggling. At most Battle Flags in the game, you can summon up to two allies to aid you during an entire mission or boss fight. This costs Tiger Seals, a lootable collectible plentifully found in the game and also given as a reward for completing certain missions. The Reinforcement system allows you to use your Spirit gauge to encourage your allies to unleash their most powerful attack on the enemy. This can give you some time to refocus and sometimes easily overpower the boss. If you feel too underleveled, spend some time grinding Genuine Qi to level up. An easy side mission you can play over and over for some quick Genuine Qi is Wizardry Spell Mastery. If you embed a Genuine Qi Obtention special effect on your loadout, you can speed things up even more.
Boss #1 – Zhang Liang, General of Man
Mission: Village of Calamity
Difficulty: 4/10
Strategy: Zhang Liang, General of Man’s boss fight spans over two phases.
- Phase 1: he will try to smash you with his mace. This is the perfect opportunity to practice parrying and deflecting. Try to favor the latter over the former as learning deflection will help counter the Critical Blows (red sparkle). As Wo Long doesn’t have a proper stamina mechanic, be aggressive with Normal Attacks. Using Normal Attacks repeatedly breaks his defense. Occasionally though, take a break and let him attack you to practice deflection. When a red sparkle appears on his body, be ready to counter his Critical Blow at the very last moment (NOT when you see the red sparkle). This first phase is fairly simple, so use it to practice deflection. If necessary, let him kill you to keep practicing.
- Phase 2: he will turn into a stone demon. Now he will try to attack you with both his mace and tail. Parry his tail attacks as well as when he summons stone from the ground, but try to deflect his other attacks. If you manage to deflect his Critical Blow, you’ll be able to deal massive Spirit Damage, gradually leaving the boss open for a Fatal Strike (lock-on turns red). Eventually, you’ll be able to use + to summon the Divine Beast. Press the prompts when you see them to end the fight.
Boss #2 – Zhuyan
Mission: Two Chivalrous Heroes
Difficulty: 3/10
Strategy: Zhuyan is a giant ape-like demon. This is not a particularly difficult fight as long as you don’t play aggressively. Focus on deflecting all of his attacks to progressively deal Spirit damage. The only part you need to truly watch out for is his Critical Blow attack which has a bit of a delay. When a red sparkle appears on his body, he will charge up his Critical Blow attack. Press to deflect it a couple of seconds after the red sparkle has appeared. A successful deflection will cause massive Spirit damage, getting you closer to performing a Fatal Strike. Rinse a repeat until he’s dead. Not a particularly challenging fight as long as you focus your energies on deflection rather than melee.
Boss #3 – Fengxi
Mission: Two Chivalrous Heroes
Difficulty: 3/10
Strategy: Fengxi is a giant warthog demon. Despite his bulkiness, he’s a rather slow and innocuous boss. The strategy here is to always hit him from either side. Don’t target him head-on. Be aggressive with your strikes, especially when he’s focusing on Zhao. His Critical Blow attack is rather slow as well. He’ll jump in the air and try to stomp on you with his belly. Again, deflect only a moment before he lands it. Other than that, use the same strategy for the entire fight. A quick and thankfully easy fight.
Boss #4 – Zhang Bao, General of Earth
Mission: The Valley of Crying Wraiths
Difficulty: 2/10
Strategy: Zhang Bao, General of Earth is a Warlock wielding fire spells and has one phase. This fight can be ridiculously easy as long as you use this strategy: first, each fire spell Zhang Bao casts can be deflected, so use this to your advantage. You can even cast a water spell to counter his element. Then, for the rest of the fight, simply + or to encourage your allies (costs two Spirit bars). If you run out of Spirit bars, simply focus on deflecting the fire spells while your allies take care of the boss to recharge it. For some extra damage, you can even summon your Divine Beast if the gauge is full. Overall, a quick and easy fight, which shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge at this stage.
Boss #5 – Zhuyan
Mission: Tale of Guiguzi
Difficulty: 3/10
Strategy: use the same strategy you used the first time: deflect his attacks, including and especially his Critical Blows spinning and stomping attacks to deal Spirit damage. Then, when the lock-on turns red, perform a Fatal Strike to deal considerable damage. Additionally, you can encourage Hong Jing for some extra damage boost. If possible, summon the Divine Beast to unleash its powerful skills ( + ) or to power you and Hong Jing up ( + ).
Boss #6 – Zhang Jiao, General of Heaven
Mission: The Demon Fort of the Yellow Heaven
Difficulty: 4/10
Strategy: encourage Sun to attack the boss and while he’s at it, you can deal some blows from behind as well as cast some spells. Given that the boss’s main element is Lightning, Water and Earth are good counters. As you lands some strikes, you’ll reach your Spirit meter, allowing you to keep encouraging Sun. You can rinse and repeat this strategy, occasionally deflecting his lightning bolts and Critical Blow attacks. One is a giant spiked projectile, one during which he stomps his stick on the ground and a third one where he tries piercing you with his handle. Keep deflecting to deal massive Spirit damage and don’t forget to perform a Fatal Strike when the lock-on turns red. Quite a doable boss fight as long as you let Sun do most of the job and play defensively to deflect his move set.
Boss #7 – Aoye
Mission: In Search of the Immortal Wizard
Difficulty: 7.5/10
Strategy: Aoye is an enormous bull-looking demon. You may want to first do a couple of test runs to familiarize yourself with his move set. He has quite an extensive one and never follows the same pattern. Here’s a brief rundown for his wide plethora of attacks and what to do for each one of them:
- Critical Blow: this can take many forms, including one during which he releases his tentacles from his mouth. The common trait of all types of Critical Blows is that they’re always charged and delayed. When he unleashes it, deflect it at the very last possible moment. This is key to deal considerable Spirit damage. The Critical Blow is one of the possible starting moves.
- Belly-flop: he will jump in the air and try to squash you with his belly. Try to deflect or dodge it. This is another possible starting move.
- Tailspin: he spins his tail to inflict damage. Deflect it.
- Sweeping/Piercing Arms: when he sweeps his arms, deflect them. He will sweep his arms at you 4-5 times in a row. So, focus on deflecting to deal Spirit damage. When he pauses, retaliate with some 1-2 quick attacks. A variant of this move his that he uses his arms as daggers.
- White Horn Stabs: he uses his white horns for some quick stabs. Better to dodge away when he starts using the horns. These attacks are really quick and need optimal deflection to avoid damage.
- Tentacle Stomps: he summons his back tentacles and continually uses them to stab you. As with the white horn stabs, try to keep your distance.
- Ice Shards: when he raises his body while still on the ground, he will release ice shards from his belly. This only usually happens during the second half of the fight. The ice shards he sends at you can be deflated.
- Icicle Storm: every time you successfully deflect a Critical Blow, he will summon an Icicle Storm which can be deflected or avoided.
The key to winning this fight is patience and impeccable deflection timing, especially with Ayoe’s Critical Blows. Do a couple of test runs to learn the timing of his moves and how to deflect them as optimally as possible. Don’t play aggressively, but prioritize deflection to increase your Spirit damage and land 1-2 hits only when he momentarily takes a break. Eventually Ayoe will perform a Critical Blow. When he does, get ready to deflect it for considerable Spirit damage and eventually a Fatal Strike when the lock-on turns red. If you can’t, repeat the same strategy until the lock-on turns red. If you need a temporary truce, encourage Hong to unleash her moves. A tough fight for sure, probably the first in the game.
Boss #8 – Suanyu
Mission: Shadow of the Sacred Mountain
Difficulty: 3.5/10
Strategy: this boss fight is more annoying than difficult because the Suanyu easily blends in with the dark environment and, as such, it can be a bit tricky to see and deflect his attacks. Generally, he uses stomping and spinning attacks with the occasional shooting of feather projectiles and summoning of lightning bolts. Try to deflect as much as possible and use your ally to overpower him. Once he’s overborne, he’s quite fast to take down.
Boss #9 – Baishe
Mission: Fall of the Corrupted Eunuch
Difficulty: 5.5/10
Strategy: Baishe is a serpent demon with huge tentacles all over her body. She uses her tail for a spinning attack which she can chain up to two times and her tentacles for quick stabbing attacks. Additionally, she likes squirting pools of poison around the room, so try not to step on these. As for the Critical Blow attacks, she either uses her tentacles to grab you or soars mid air to then plunge on you. If she does, you’ll sustain massive damage, so try to deflect them if possible. This fight is not too bad, also because she can take lots of Spirit damage when you counter her Critical Blows, allowing you to perform a damaging Fatal Strike soon enough.
Boss #10 – Zhang Rang
Mission: Fall of the Corrupted Eunuch
Difficulty: 6.5/10
Strategy: Zhang Rang is a human boss fight. In the same room are mobs that look exactly like him, with their own health bar. Don’t target the boss just yet (the one without a health bar above his head). First, clear the room of all clones BUT one. If you eliminate all clones and only leave the real boss, he will summon new clones after a while, making this fight unnecessarily more challenging than it already is. So, when it’s two versus two, focus your efforts on the real one. At this point, you won’t be swarmed by so many clones. Eliminating the clones first is also essential to remove the boss’s buffs (one clone = one buff). This is more of a survivability test. Take your time defeating the mobs as they a deal a ton of damage when they close in on and corner you. The clones go down easily with a heavy strike and they have the same Critical Blow attack as the boss, a charged attack. Deflect it and every possible attack for Spirit damage, including the lightning orbs and trails.
Boss #11 – Lu Bu
Mission: The Battle of Hulaoguan Pass
Difficulty: 8/10
Strategy: Lu Bu is a bulky soldier riding a horse and is by far the hardest boss in the game so far. For this boss fight, I highly recommend setting the following Wizardry Spells: Absorb Vitality, Spirit Fervor, and Burning Flamewave. It would be better to have all of these 3 Spells available for unlock and the Vigor level required to use them, but if you can’t, at least prioritize Burning Flamewave if possible. Burning Flamewave especially is what makes this very tough fight a lot more tolerable. Additionally, set Qinglong as your Divine Beast. Using Qinglong’s + ability allows you to cast a pool of health regeneration that could be helpful while deflecting his attacks, especially his ranged ones. And finally, it’s highly encouraged to have all 6 possible Dragon’s Pots available for use.
- Phase 1: during phase 1, do NOT try striking him. During this phase, you must play defensively. He’s way too fast and you’d just be a punching bag. Your focus is to just knock him off his horse and the only way to do it is to deplete his Spirit bar. So, for this first half of the fight, focus on deflecting his Critical Blow, Normal attacks and arrows. The first Critical Blow attack is a horse stomp and the second one is a charge. When you’ve successfully deflected a Critical Blow attack, land only 1 heavy attack to reduce his Spirit bar even further. When he gets away from you and abruptly brakes, it means he’s about to shoot arrows at you. Hold to deflect them. Incidentally, the fight will always start with a volley of arrows.
- Phase 2: first thing you must know is that while he’s not riding his horse anymore, the horse will still rampage around the arena and it can hurt you if you stand in its way. The very first thing he’s going to do is his Critical Blow stomping attack. This is somewhat easy to deflect. Do NOT counterattack after deflecting it. He’s way too fast and if you do, he is going to chain several attacks that need to be deflected with perfect timing. Now you can use two strategies, depending on how quickly your Spirit gauge goes back to normal: the first strategy involves deflecting and using Burning Flamewave (harder), the second strategy involves holding to parry all of his attacks and keeping your distance to restore your Spirit gauge back to normal (easier). Regardless of the strategy you use, your job is to deflect all Critical Blow attacks as this is the only feasible fay to deal consistent damage. Remember that he can chain Critical Blow attacks, so get ready to deflect a second or even a third one if that’s the case. This usually happens after you’ve dismounted him from his horse a second time.
Boss #12 – Sun Ce and Sun Jian
Mission: Like Father, Like Son
Difficulty: 5/10
Strategy: the fight will start against Sun Ce. Use the environment to your advantage: the room is quite big, so you can keep your distance. Deflect as much as possible and retaliate with 1-2 Normal attacks. When Sun Ce’s Spirit bar is depleted, perform a Fatal Strike. His attack range is quite limited, but he strikes fast. Once Sun Ce’s bar is 3/4 empty, Sun Jian will join the fight and for a moment you’ll have to fight them both. Finish Sun Ce off (lure him away from Jian if need be) and then focus on Jian, who has a similar move set. You can slow them down with Imposing Slab and use Zhuque for considerable fire damage. A thorny challenge, but nothing compared to Lu Bu.
Boss #13 – Taotie
Mission: Centuries of Glory Burned Away
Difficulty: 4/10
Strategy: Taotie is a massive abomination with the face of a man and the torso of a sheep. To prepare for this boss fight, prioritize any Water Divine Beast and Spells and its main element is fire. This boss fight has three phases. He may look daunting, but really he is not.
- Phase 1: Phase 1 starts with three crystal projectiles shot directly into the arena. These can be deflected. After, aim to destroy the crystal corruptions at one of his legs. When he stomps his legs, deflect them or dodge away. Always target his legs and when his Spirit gauge is depleted, perform a Fatal Strike on his eye.
- Phase 2: after stabbing his eye, continue chipping away at the crystals on his legs until he drops down again. When he does, use the crystal corruption platforms around his body to get to his back and perform another stab.
- Phase 3: during Phase 3, stay close to him and be ready to deflect his belly-flop. When he scampers off or rolls across the arena, quickly dodge away. When you’ve depleted his Spirit gauge, climb up the head and perform a Fatal Strike on the mouth to end the fight.
What’s actually hard about this fight is not the boss per se, but finding a way to consistently hit him. This boss fight can feel quite chaotic and like you’re hitting nothing sometimes, but as long as you aim at his legs and stay close to him during the phases, it won’t pose too much of a challenge.
Boss #14 – Sun Jian
Mission: Darkness Over the Hanshui River
Difficulty: 3/10
Strategy: Sun Jian is a massive tiger-looking demon. He mainly uses his tail and claws in his move set. This fight shouldn’t prove too demanding. It’s three against one and Sun Jian has only one phase. For the entire fight, use your Spirit gauge to encourage your allies and to cast Imposing Slab for considerable damage. Additionally, you want to have Tengshe as your main Divine Beast to inflict a series of debuffs on the boss. With Imposing Slab, Tengshe, and your two allies, this boss will go down quite fast.
Boss #15 – Dong Zhuo
Mission: Tyrant’s Final Banquet
Difficulty: 4.5/10
Strategy: Dong Zhuo is a big spear-wielding soldier. He mostly sports lunge attacks that are very quick and harmful. Deflecting them requires impeccable timing, but you can use Imposing Slab if available if you don’t feel safe. He can also shoot projectile daggers and has very quick Critical Blow attacks, including one during which he air-spins his spear, one in which he gets ready for a massive stomp, and one in which he cuts the ground with his spear. Bring two reinforcements for this fight to get him off your back. He can deal lots of damage and quickly, but it’s overall a very feasible fight at this point in the game if you follow this strategy.
Boss #16 – Zhao Yun
Mission: The Unparalleled Spear
Difficulty: 4.5/10
Strategy: he can strike hard and fast lunges with his spear, so better to keep your distance and cast Imposing Slab to interrupt his attack patterns. Deflect when possible to restore your Spirit gauge a bit and use it to cast Imposing Slab to inflict more Spirit damage. When he jumps in the air and charges up, he’s about to slam his spear onto the lake or spin his body to pierce you respectively. Deflect both of these Critical Blow attacks for a massive boost in Spirit damage output.
Boss #17 – Cao Cao
Mission: Green Plum, Warm Liquor
Difficulty: 4/10
Strategy: there are only two moves you need to look out for: his Critical Blow attack during which he jumps up in the air to try to slam you down and when he summons his phoenix Divine Beast. Stand back when he unleashes the latter or its shockwave will damage you. Other than that, keep your distance and cast Imposing Slab to have him run into it for some extra Spirit damage. Deflect when possible and this way he should go down relatively fast.
Boss #18 – Xiahou Dun
Mission: War’s Flames Blaze Fiercely
Difficulty: 5/10
Strategy: Xiahou Dun is a massive winged demon wielding a giant switchglaive. Plus, his entire body is on fire, meaning that he can also deal elemental damage. Make sure you have one extra reinforcement for this fight as it may go a long way. Most of his attacks, including his Critical Blows, are charged-up spins. This fight can prove somewhat chaotic: he moves and flies very fast and his body easily blends in with the Critical Blow red markers, making it hard to nail the deflection timing. For the entire fight, keep your distance to give yourself a bit more time to get ready to deflect when he flies towards you. When he does, you can cast Imposing Slab in his trajectory to deal some Spirit damage and simultaneously slow him down a bit if you don’t feel like you’re going to deflect. When he casts fire balls, these can be deflected too. Additionally, try to reserve some of your Spirit gauge to encourage your ally reinforcements. A somewhat tricky fight, but if you follow the outlined strategy, it’s not too bad.
Boss #19 – Zhang Liao
Mission: The Way of the Warrior
Difficulty: 5/10
Strategy: Zhang Liao is a bulky soldier mastering the Lightning element. He has a similar move set to Xiahou Dun’s, meaning that he casts lunging and spinning attacks. As usual, keep your distance and cast Imposing Slab when you can to slow the boss down and deal Spirit damage. Reserve the rest of your gauge to encourage your allies and deflect as much as you can, including and especially the Critical Blow attacks for some considerable Spirit damage.
Boss #20 – Liu Bei
Mission: Caliber of a Hero
Difficulty: 4.5/10
Strategy: he strikes hard and quickly, but there’s a trick to repeatedly stun him. Here’s how: keep him at a distance and when he gets close cast Burning Flamewave to stun him in the fire and deal draining damage. If you can, land 1-2 quick attacks, then repeat and let your Spirit gauge recharge a bit. Repeat the same strategy for the entire fight. You can also cast Imposing Slab when he’s stunned on the ground for additional damage. Another very important thing is to deal heavy attacks when he buffs himself: as he does, he won’t attack you leaving himself open for a heavy attack. With this strategy, he won’t stand much of a chance.
Boss #21 – Leishi
Mission: Legend of the Thunder God
Difficulty: 3.5/10
Strategy: first off, call two reinforcements. Then, proceed to the arena to fight Leishi, the Thunder God. He’s very big, but kind of slow. Use the following strategy: deflect his initial Critical Blow attack, then go up to him and cast either Burning Flamewave or Imposing Slab to trigger a Fatal Strike opportunity. You should deal a massive amount of damage. For the next bit of his health bar, encourage one or both of your allies and as they fight him, go up to him to cast either spell again. The only real thing you need to worry about and deflect are his lightning orbs. An easy fight overall, despite the menacing size of the boss.
Boss #22 – Lu Bu
Mission: Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men
Difficulty: 6.5/10
Strategy: Lu Bu is a giant fire-spitting centaur. Bring an extra ally reinforcement on this make as it can make all the difference. A good one is Han Dang as the boss uses a lot of ranged fire attacks. Additionally, you might want to slot a few Water spells if you have them available and are powerful enough. As for the fight itself, always deflect his fire balls and axe swings to build your Spirit meter and be able to encourage your allies consistently. As usual, cast Imposing Slab for some extra Spirit damage and get ready to deflect his Critical Blow attacks when he jumps very high in the air, casts huge balls of fire at you, and slashes the ground with his axe. Keep your distance and let the allies do most of the work to play it safe, and you’ll be able to get this boss fight in the sack.
Boss #23 – Hong Jing
Mission: The Scarlet Crystal
Difficulty: 6/10
Strategy: she’s a spell caster and she uses the most powerful spells for all elements. Coincidentally though, this is also her main weakness. In fact, as she casts, she’s stationary and open to damage. So, every time you see she’s about to cast a spell, get close to her and either do the same or land a heavy attack. For the rest of the fight, keep your distance and try to deflect all the spells she casts at you. Just remember that when she summons lightning bolts from the sky and places a slab of ice on the ground that you must dodge away. Everything else can be deflected. With this strategy, while it’s a challenging fight, you’ll make it more feasible.
Boss #24 – Yan Liang and Wen Chou
Mission: Behold the Glaive of Righteousness
Difficulty: 5/10
Strategy: allow your ally to take on Yan Liang while you take on the standing one, Wen Chou. They’re not as tough as they look and will go down very easily. Use your Spirit gauge for Imposing Slab to deal extra Spirit damage and just focus on deflecting attacks. Once Wen Chou is down, help your ally buddy with Yan Liang. Yan Liang has a very similar move set to the Chenggui’s, so Imposing Slab here can really help. After a while, Wen Chou will come back alive.
Boss #25 – Liu Bei
Mission: Behold the Glaive of Righteousness
Difficulty: 7/10
Strategy: Liu Bei is an extremely quick human demon. He has quick dual swords attacks that can deal a ton of damage if undeflected. Incidentally, this is also one of his main weaknesses, meaning that if you manage to deflect a good chunk of his attacks, he can also sustain lots of Spirit damage. Do your best to deflect as many as you can and retreat to heal and take a breather if needed. If you do, make sure yo encourage your two allies. If you want to play it safe, I’d recommend keeping your distance from him for the entire fight and let the two allies do most of the job. Only get close to him when he’s not spinning around with his dual swords and to cast Imposing Slab or Burning Flamewave. So, a good strategy could be to let him fight your allies for a couple of seconds, go in, cast Imposing Slab, retreat and deflect if necessary. When you retreat, make sure there’s wide enough a gap between you and boss as all of his tail and dual sword attacks have a really wide reach. If Tengshe Divine Beast is viable, summon it to deal a good number of debuffs. His Critical Blow attack is also fairly easy to deflect: slashing blood blades right when is stationary mid-air. Again, with two allies aiding you and using this strategy, this fight is not too bad.
Boss #26 – Zhang Liao
Mission: The Fearless Blade
Difficulty: 8.5/10
Strategy: as soon as the fight starts, he will summon his lightning Divine Beast which imbues his sword with the lightning element. Then, he may perform an aerial Critical Blow attack, which is relatively slow, thus easy to deflect. Once you’ve deflected it, do NOT counter with normal or heavy attacks. Instead, cast a far-reaching spell like Imposing Slab or Burning Flamewave for some Spirit damage, then retreat. If you don’t, you’ll get trapped in his quick stabs, which can be quite hard to deflect with perfect timing. A second Critical Blow attack his a quick forward stab, a bit harder to deflect. Try not to get caught in the rain of lightning bolts when he summons them from the sky as these can deal massive damage. The key to winning this fight is taking advantage of the frequency with which he uses his aerial Critical Blow attack, the easier of the two to deflect. Then, keep your distance for the rest of the fight and let him come to you, healing if need be. You can even deflect his lightning attacks if you’re able, but it would be safer to keep your distance.
Boss #27 – Yuan Shao
Mission: Decisive Battle of Guandu
Difficulty: 3.5/10
Strategy: Yuan Shao is a mid-level boss fight. He is an ice-casting tailed demon. He can cast massive ice shards and projectiles and uses his tail for his Critical Blow attack. Since he’s quite stationary, you can use this to your own advantage. Get close to him and cast your most powerful spell for considerable Spirit damage. When he’s about to cast ice, retreat and deflect them to restore some of your Spirit gauge. Other than that, keep getting close to him to cast magic and he should go down quickly. A very easy boss despite being an endgame one.
Boss #28 – Yu Ji / Embodiment of Demonic Qi
Mission: Decisive Battle of Guandu
Difficulty: 7.5/10
Strategy: Yu Ji is a two-phase boss fight. His main attacks are ranged magic casts of all elemental phases.
- Phase 1: during Phase 1, Yu Ji will be in human form. In this form, he’s quite weak and stationary. Especially the latter aspect, you can exploit to deal consistent damage. All of his spells can be interrupted when he’s getting ready to cast them. When he is, go up to him and cast your best spell in return. This will break his magic and stun him at the same time, leaving him open for a heavy attack. When you’re able to perform a Fatal Strike on him he will suffer a ton of damage. The only two real attacks you have to watch out for are when he summons swords and uses his weapon in a spinning-slashing motion. His Critical Blows are a spin attack and a hand slam, both slow and easy to deflect.
- Phase 2: during Phase 2, he will be in dragon form. In this form, he’s the complete opposite of his human form. He’s a beast and moves around uninterruptedly. As such, don’t follow him around, just stand back for the entire fight and do your best to deflect his incoming attacks. Some of his attacks are: a lightning tail slash, a venomous body spin, 6 consecutive sword slashes, venomous pools summoned from the ground. The strategy here is to wait for him to cast his Critical Blows attacks, which are all slow and easy to deflect. One Critical Blow is a tail slam, a second one is a slow slithering attack, a third one is a massive fire ball, a fourth one is a tail ground cut. You can also try casting Imposing Slab for when he flies around to have him bump into it if possible, but don’t rely too much on it this time around. When his Spirit gauge is depleted, you’ll be able to perform a Fatal Strike that deals big chunks of damage. Also, if available, summon Tenshen Divine Beast to debuff him.
Boss #29 – Blindfolded Boy
Mission: The Crouching Dragon Roars
Difficulty: 9/10
Strategy: Blindfolded Boy is a spell-casting human boss, the hardest one in the game. This is also the story’s final boss. For this boss fight, it’s highly encouraged to have collected all possible Dragon Vein Essences and Crystals for maximum Dragon’s Pot usage and efficacy. Blindfolded Boy is crazy quick and deals a ton of damage, especially with his Critical Blow attacks. He masters all phases with absolute perfection and can enchant his weapon with any at any moment. Here’s a quick rundown of all the possible attacks he uses:
- Far-reaching sword slashes (this is his favorite attack)
- Flying piercing swords
- Flying swords while he waltzes around the arena
- Poison pools
- Rock slabs
- Giant fire balls
- Lightning bolts and pools
- Ice shards
As for his Critical Blow attacks, he conjures a massive fire ball, splits himself into two more clones, each of which can deal damage, charges up to then dash and possess you. Sometimes, he chains multiple Critical Blow attacks, so don’t retaliate just to be safe. All of these can easily insta-kill you, so do your best to deflect them. Incidentally, deflecting his consecutive Critical Blows is the key to winning this fight. If necessary, do a few trial runs to learn his attack pattern and get the deflection timing of his Critical Blows down. The strategy here is patience: do not attempt countering any of his normal attacks. He’s way too quick and can easily chain them to keep harming you. Instead, learn the correct timing to deflect his Critical Blow attacks and use these to your advantage to then be able to perform Fatal Strikes. Again, being able to deflect consecutive Critical Blows is the key to winning here. Keeping your distance can also help to slightly increase the deflection timing.
Boss #30 – Xiahou Yuan and Xiahou Dun
Mission: The Two Walls Stand Tall
Difficulty: 5/10
Strategy: To win here, keep your distance to repeatedly stun both Xiahou with your most powerful spells and just focus on deflecting arrows and Critical Blow attacks. There’s not much more to it.
Boss #31 – Yuan Shao
Mission: Pride of the Yuan Clan
Difficulty: 4/10
Strategy: this is a rematch against Yuan Shao.
