Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Guidance from Ages Past Walkthrough

Guidance from Ages Past is a Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Guidance from Ages Past story mission.

Requirement: Finished Main Quest: Secret of the Ring Ruins
Reward: Vow of Mineru Sage (can call Mineru, the fifth sage, from the key items menu to aid you in battle)
Quest Info: You found a strange relic on Dragonhead Island that emitted a narrow beam of light. The beam appears to extend straight down to the surface. When you touched the relic, a mysterious voice said to take it and “follow the light”.

Starting Location: Guidance from Ages Past

Guidance from Ages Past starts automatically upon completing Main Quest: Secret of the Ring Ruins, at the end of Dragonhead Island.

Follow the Light

Pick up the green laser device and walk down the path behind it.

There combine a Wing + 2 Fans + Steering Stick + attach the laser device at the front of the wing. The combined item will look like this:

Hit the fans and interact with the steering stick to control the wing. Fly it down to where the green laser is pointing. The laser always points at a fixed position, which is your target. It’s the ruins surrounded by water north of Tobio’s Hollow. Land the wing there.

Detach the green laser from the wing and place it at the altar so that the laser shines on it. This triggers a cutscene and opens a hidden path leading underground.

Go down the path and place the laser on the pedestal in the middle of the elevator.

A cutscene will play and the elevator goes underground to the Construct Factory in the Depths. Turn around, behind you interact with Muokuij Lightroot to light up the area. Now use Ultrahand to grab the green laser and insert it in the “head” part of the altar straight ahead. The laser will point to it.

Next you must build a body for Mineru by visiting the four depots for parts. They are directly around the Construct Factory and easy to see by their green light. We’ll go through them one by one below. We will go in this order: south-east > south-west > north-west > north-east.

Left-Leg Depot

We will start with the Left-Leg Depot. When facing Mineru’s statue it’s to the bottom right (south-east). Coordinates: 0960, -2298, -0557.

Go inside, interact with the green altar. It will drop down a green box, opens the gates above, and closes the door you came from.

Grab the green box with Ultrahand, lift it over the wall next to the entrance where you came from (rotate the box to make it fit). Then climb up the wall.

Rotate the wheel counter-clockwise to lower the bridge a little bit. You want the bridge to face up pretty steep in a 60° angle.

Put the green box on the bridge. Attach a rocket on top of the box (rockets are in the corner behind the bridge). At this point, it’s recommended to make a manual save. You must hit the rocket on the box, it must carry the box upstairs. The bridge acts as a ramp.

If the box doesn’t fly high enough you must turn the bridge higher. If you run out of rockets reload the manual save.

When the box lands upstairs, climb up the wall to it. Pick up the box using Ultrahand, carry it to the right where the wall is open and drop it down the opening, to the outside of the depot.

Carry it back to the statue in Construct Factory. Place it in front of the statue and use Ultrahand again to break the box. Then place it in the leg part of the statue.

Left-Arm Depot

The next Depot is to the bottom left when facing Mineru’s statue (south-west). Coordinates: 0752, -2382, -0524.

Activate the green altar inside and the green box containing the arm will drop down.

Lift the door on the left, cast Recall to keep it lifted, use Ultrahand to lift the box through the door and walk through it before Recall ends.

The next room is filled with lava, you must transform the box into a vehicle to drive over the lava. Grab the 2 wheels from the door, put one on each side of the box. Also grab the steering stick in the right corner and put it on top of the box. The combined object looks like this:

Now climb on top of the box, use the steering stick to drive the box forward across the lava.

You reach a narrower lava path. Detach the box from the wheels/stick. Use Ultrahand and to hold the box as far away to the other end of the lava as possible, then drop it down into the lava.

Climb up the ladder to the side (next to the first lava path you drove across).

At the top jump to the next platform so that you are facing the narrow lava path straight on. Now glide across the lava.

After you land, pick up the box using Ultrahand again and lift it to you. Now you got the box (and yourself) across the lava. If the box is out of reach you can climb the ladder hear to glide back across and place the box closer to the end.

Now there’s another door. Same as before, lift it then use Recall to keep it lifted and go through it with the box.

This room has 2 fans and a steering stick. Put 1 fan on the back of the box and the steering stick on top of it. Place the box in the water. Climb on, hit the fan, use the steering stick to drive it down the river.

The river will end directly at the Constructor Factory. Carry the box to the statue, use Ultrahand to pop it open, insert the arm in the statue.

Right-Arm Depot

The next Depot is in the top left when facing Mineru’s statue (north-west). Coordinates: 0641, -2106, -0519. The stairs leading to the entrance are covered by red gloom, but you can glide there safely from the rocks to the north. You may want to activate the Uisihcoj Lightroot on the hill to the north to light up this area.

After entering the Depot, interact with the green altar and a green box containing the right arm will drop down.

Put the box on the conveyor belt on the right. This will automatically push it up, walk after it.

The next section has a long electrified rail. There are a bunch of wheels here. Put one wheel on the back left of the box, and one on the front right. It should look like this:

Then put the box on the rail like this and it will drive across in a straight line:

Because one wheel is on the left and one on the right it will help balance out the weight of the box so it doesn’t fall off the rail. Alternatively, if you have a Fan in the inventory you can simply put one on the back of the box and it will slide it over the rail.

Climb the ladder on the other side and carry the box outside. Put the two wheels on the sides of the box, but low enough that they touch the ground. On the right is a steering stick, put that on top of the box, then use the steering stick to drive it down the ramp like a vehicle. It should look like this:

Drive it back to the statue, use Ultrahand to pop the box open and place the arm on the statue.

Right-Leg Depot

The Right-Leg Depot is in the top right when facing Miner’s statue (north-east). Coordinates: 1152, -2048, -0516. It’s high up and a bit harder to reach than the other deots. You should first have activated the Uisihcoj Lightroot to the north. From there you can easily glide down to the entrance.

Interact with the green altar inside the depot and the box containing the right leg will drop down.

Take it to the fan elevators on the right, hit the fans to drive up with the box.

You will see a metal rail leading up to the exit. Detach a fan from the previous elevator and put it on the back of the box. Grab the two “U” shaped stones (one on rail, one below rail). Put one on top of the box so it looks like the letter “U” with the opening facing up. Put the second one on top but sideways so it looks like a “U” with the opening facing left.

Now hang it on the rail like this:

Jump on the box, hit the fan, it will go up the rail all the way to the end.

Put the box on the next fan-elevator, hit the fans to go up.

Up the ride side you can find birdwings. Put the box on a bird, a fan in the back, climb on and hit the fan, then glide down to the Construct Factory. Alternatively, you can simply drop the box down the ledge and use Ultrahand to carry it back to the Construct Factory.

Place it at the statue and use Ultrahand to pop the box open. Then place the Leg on the statue. If this was your 4th part the statue will be fully repaired and a cutscene triggers.

Ride Mineru’s Construct to Spirit Temple

Mineru’s body is now repaired. Press to ride it like a mount. You must go to the yellow waypoint, marked on the map:

Moving with it consumes battery, but standing still recharges battery. You can hit enemies with L/R buttons and guard with ZL.

Take the path to the east of the Construct Factory. Along the way you will find areas with white lights where you can attach some Zonai devices to Mineru’s Construct. For example, attaching a fan by holding X and then pressing Y will greatly enhance mobility. You can also attach Zonai Parts to the hands as weapons. If you find enemy encounters too difficult, you can dismount and wait for your Sages to defeat the enemies. You can also go on foot and Mineru’s Construct will follow you. Activate Lightroots along the way to make the area easier to navigate.

If you come across destructible stone walls you can hit them with weapons (spiked ball on hand or a ranged weapon) to break the rocks.

When you reach the Spirit Temple, the wall will be too steep for Mineru’s Construct to Climb. On the right side below the temple you can find rockets, while riding Mineru attach rockets to the back (hold X, press Y). Then stand in front of the steep wall and press Y to activate the rocket on the back, this makes you fly up like a jetpack.

Spirit Temple

In the temple go straight ahead to see an owl statue, where the quest marker is. While being mounted on Mineru’s Construct, press to interact with the owl statue. Then the green laser mask will shine on the owl statue which activates the elevator.

After the elevator walk straight ahead across the red gloom. This triggers a boss fight again Seized Construct.

Seized Construct Boss Fight

Seized Construct is a big Construct similar to Mineru’s Construct that you are riding.

Start by fusing the two Spiked Balls on the right to your Construct’s hands ( + / + ). Then block all incoming attacks by holding . After a block, attack the boss 3 times to push it into the barbed wire around the arena to damage it. Rinse and repeat. Special attacks to be aware of:

Normal Strikes are easily blocked with
When the boss swings two yellow electric whips in his hands, run sideways in circles around it. These cannot be blocked. After it misses with a big strike it stops using the electric whips.
When it charges blue cannon hold to block and simultaneously walk sideways to not get hit. Then run forward while it charges a new shot and land 3 hits.

In the second phase, at half health, the boss will start flying. When if flies up walk directly underneath it and block with , attack after it lands (it might stay airborne for a minute or so).

Finish the Quest

After the boss is defeated pick up the red heart container. Then interact with the teardrop on the altar to trigger a series of cutscenes. There will be big story revelations here.
