Find Princess Zelda is a Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Find Princess Zelda story mission.
Requirement: Completed the Prologue
Reward: Recall ability (turn back time on objects)
Quest Info: You found yourself on a strange island in the sky after you awoke. A steward construct claimed that Princess Zelda gave it her Purah Pad, all to get it into your hands. The device’s map shows a yellow point of light. The construct said that’s where you’ll find the princess.
Objectives:
- Reach Temple of Time
- Finish Main Quest: The Closed Door
- Explore Temple of Time
- Finish Nachoyah Shrine
- Open Second Door in Temple of Time
- Finish Main Quest: To the Kingdom of Hyrule
- Finish the Main Story
Starting Location: Find Princess Zelda
This quest starts upon talking to Steward Construct on Great Sky Island.
Reach Temple of Time
First, make sure you have the quest objective tracked in the Adventure Log. It should automatically be marked when the quest started. You will see the golden objective marker in the north of Great Sky Island, that’s where to go.
Start by interacting with the green shrine next to the Steward Construct. This creates a bridge.
Go over the bridge, then turn left, jump down into the water below. Careful, DON’T push the Left Stick forward or you might land on the ground outside the water and die on impact. You must hit the water.
Now follow the path to the north towards the quest objective. You can always open the map with if you aren’t sure of the direction. Look for a big stone temple in the distance, that’s your target. There are some enemies along the path but it doesn’t matter if you fight them or run past them. They drop parts that are useful later, so in the long run it’s better to defeat them for materials.
You will also encounter another Construct near a campfire that teaches you about roasting food at campfires. For now, swim through the pond past the Construct and climb the stairs to the Temple of Time.
There is a more powerful enemy up there, the best approach is to attack it until it gets knocked back and drops its weapon/shield. Then quickly steal its weapon and shield from the ground with , which renders the enemy defenseless.
Afterward, interact with the green mark on the Temple Door. You will now meet Rauru and it’s revealed that it was his voice you heard earlier in the cave, and he was the one who replaced your arm.
This starts a new quest called The Closed Door that we have to do first before continuing here.
Open the Closed Door
You must do another main quest first. Refer to The Closed Door Walkthrough. At the end of this you will open the closed door to Temple of Time.
Explore Temple of Time
Head upstairs in the Temple of Time and interact with the golden glowing object. After a cutscene, Link will obtain the Recall ability. It allows you to reverse an object’s movement until it goes back to where it was. You can stop the reverse movement at any time. Basically, it manipulates time.
In the temple, behind where you touched the golden object, are two water wheels. Jump on the rotating platform on the side of either waterwheel, then immediately use Recall ability ( + ). Use this to turn back the waterwheel. When it reaches the top you must climb up the balcony. Walk close to the wall to squeeze through the pillar.
Now pray at the Angel Statue to restore health.
Open the big door behind the Angel Statue. It will drain your health which is normal. And surprise, it’s another locked door! Rauru appears to let you know you aren’t yet strong enough – the door is a test of your overall vitality (how many health-hearts you have).
But this time, Raura is nice and unlocks fast travel for us and marks the 4th shrine on the map.
Reach Nachoyah Shrine
Click the blue fast travel marker in the south of the map. This teleports you back to the starting cave where Link awakened at the start of the game. From where you spawn, look to your left to spot 2 moving waterwheels on the wall.
Stand underneath the left waterwheel (the one that’s further up), and use Ascend ability to get on top of the wheel. Immediately after landing cast Recall ability to spin back the wheel, and jump off into the tunnel at the top of the room behind the waterwheel.
Follow this path to reach Nachoyah Shrine. Go inside.
Nachoyah Shrine – Solution
This is how you solve the Shrine:
- Jump on the raft, quickly use Recall to make the raft flow back.
- Same on the second raft again, cast Recall to make it flow up the waterfall. After you reach the top there is an optional bonus chest on the left, you can reach it by casting Recall on the water wheel.
- There will be two watch hands and a gate. When the watch hands overlap you must cast Recall and rewind them together. This will keep the gate open for long enough that you can walk through it.
Open Second Door in Temple of Time
Return to the Angel Statue in Temple of Time and pray at it. Pick the dialogue “Heart Container” > “Yes” to trade the 4 Lights of Blessings for 1 Heart Container. This increases your total lives by one.
Now interact with the door behind the angel again to push it open. It will consume 3.75 of your 4 lives. A cutscene triggers.
Go straight ahead, drop down the stairs and use Ascend. Do this again at the 2nd stairset. Examine the golden orb at the end.
To the Kingdom of Hyrule
You must now finish another Main Quest To the Kingdom of Hyrule. Do this first and then continue here.
Finish the Main Story
“Find Princess Zelda” will only complete upon finishing the main story. This is a game-spanning quest that stays active for the rest of the story but it has no more objectives of its own. For all remaining quests refer to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Full Walkthrough. You will find Princess Zelda at the end of the game.
This finishes Find Princess Zelda Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
For all other Quests refer to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Walkthrough.

Uhh, I’ve finished the game several times and it still says that I’ve only completed 21 main quests. The 2 I miss are “Destroy Ganondorf” and “Find princess Zelda”. Am I softlocked or is this normal ?
