Unexpected Encounter is the second subquest in Prologue: Act 2, For A Tomorrow Without Tears, an Archon Quest in Genshin Impact. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Unexpected Encounter Archon Subquest.
Unexpected Encounter is unlocked automatically when you finish the previous subquest, Shadow Over Mondstadt.

Quest Giver: Automatically given after completing Shadow Over Mondstadt
Requirement: Complete subquest Shadow Over Mondstadt

Reward: 275 Adventure EXP, 3,125 Mora, 3,125 Character EXP, 5 Fine Enhancement Ore
Mission Description: Follow the boy you first saw in the forest.
Objectives:
- Leave the Knights of Favonius Headquarters
- Talk to Paimon
- Look for the suspicious person
- Talk to Paimon
- Look for the suspicious person using Elemental Sight
Starting Location: Knights of Favonius Headquarters
Leave the Knights of Favonius Headquarters
Unexpected Encounter begins immediately after you finish Shadow Over Mondstadt. Leave Jean’s office and go out the main door to your right.
Talk to Paimon
After a little walk, Paimon brings up the boy you saw with Stormterror, who just so happens to run right by you.
Look for the suspicious person
Just over the wall to the level below and approach where you saw the boy run by.
Talk to Paimon
As expected, the boy is nowhere to be found. Paimon tells you to use a new skill to find out where the boy went.
Look for the suspicious person using Elemental Sight
Use Elemental Sight to see a path of footprints that lead down the stairs. Follow them. Immediately after you move your character, Elemental Sight deactivates, but the highlighted footsteps remain.
Once you go far enough, even the footsteps disappear. Use Elemental Sight again to pick up on where you left off. You will need to do this several times along the way.
The path eventually leads you around a structure and up another set of stairs.
After the stairs, the footprints lead you directly into a wall. Climb up the wall to pick up the trail again.
The steps lead you up one more set of stairs and immediately turns left at the top toward the courtyard.
Once you get close enough to see the boy among bystanders in front of the Anemo Archon statue, you complete the subquest Unexpected Encounter.
