Hogwarts Legacy Secrets of the Restricted Section Walkthrough

Secrets of the Restricted Section is the tenth main quest in Hogwarts Legacy. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Secrets of the Restricted Section Main Mission.

Requirement: having completed Professor Hecat’s Assignment 1 (Incendio), Level 3
Reward: 260 XP, Disillusionment
Quest Info: Professor Fig was called away by the Headmaster, so I convinced Sebastian to help me sneak into the Restricted Section of the library. It was lucky I asked for his help too because he taught me the Disillusionment Charm which helped me sneak past the Prefects and the librarian. Once in the Restricted Section, I discovered an ancient magic portal that led me to a hidden antechamber. In the antechamber, I was attacked by Pensive Paladins, but I managed to destroy them all! Then I found what looks like an ancient tome. I’m sure Professor Fig will know what it is. Sebastian, on the other hand, got caught by the librarian after Peeves gave us away – but he didn’t turn me in. I’m thinking Sebastian is going to be a good and loyal friend.

Starting Location: Secrets of the Restricted Section

We have now learned Incendio and must report back to Professor Fig. This way, we can enter the Library’s Restricted Section and continue our investigation.

Return to Professor Fig’s Classroom

Open the map and warp to Professor Fig’s Classroom in the Astronomy Wing section. Once reached, press to wait for and talk to Professor Fig. At the quest marker, Professor Fig is ready to head into the Library’s Restricted Section, but much to our chagrin Headmaster Black storms into the room, asking for Fig.

Talk to Sebastian

Press to activate your Charmed Compass. This will reveal a golden wisp trail that you can follow to your destination. Once reached, press to talk to Sebastian. At the quest marker, Sebastian will help us sneak into the Restricted Section undetected later that night.

Meet Sebastian in the Central Hall at Night

Head downstairs to reunite with Sebastian. After a brief chat, you’ll be able to learn Disillusionment, the Invisibility charm. As usual, steady your wand with the left stuck and guide it along the symbol’s path to learn the spell. Don’t let go of the left stick and remember to press the corresponding button to gain speed and lose the red spark.

Sneak Into the Library

First, equip Disillusionment into your Spell Set. So, then hover over Disillusionment and hold to assign it to any slot.  Disillusionment cloaks you with a veil of invisibility, allowing you to sneak past enemies more easily. However, you can still be spotted as enemies are able to see your silhouette. So, cast the spell and head downstairs, but wait for the Prefect to walk away before continuing.

Then, hide behind the fountain and wait for the Prefects to be farther apart from one another before entering the Library.

Talk to Sebastian

Once inside the Library, head behind the bookcase to continue.

Get the Key from the Librarian’s Desk

Now wait for Sebastian to topple a pile of books. This will distract the librarian, allowing you to proceed undetected to the desk and grab the key from the drawer.

Enter the Restricted Section

Now proceed to next marker, making sure to stay out of the librarian’s line of sight.

Find the Book

Unlock the gate to the Restricted Section and open the chest by the stairs. Then, continue downstairs. Once you get downstairs, you’ll be shown a tutorial on how to distract surrounding enemies using Basic Cast.

Check the Minimap for a red target moving around the area and cast Basic Cast at the broken armor on the other side of the room.

When the ghost goes to investigate the noise, you’re free to proceed to the next room where another ghost will be wandering around. Use the same tactic as before and when you begin going down the stairs you’ll be in the clear. As soon as you get downstairs, check the right side for a chest. Continue through the halls and you’ll eventually get to a chest with an eye which can be highlighted with Revelio. To be able to open these kinds of chests, you need to use Disillusionment to avoid being spotted. These chests give you lots of Galleons.

Proceed through the halls until you reach the next yellow marker. Inside the storeroom, Peeves will apparate and is bent on getting us caught, but Sebastian volunteers to prevent that from happening.

Use Reparo on the armor (slot it again if needed), then enter the room and open the chest.

Search for the Secret Hidden in the Restricted Section

Continue on until you’re able to investigate a pool of ancient magic, similar to those you’ve encountered in the very first main quest. Press :square / to investigate.

Enter the Athenaeum

Proceed through the portal, head downstairs and open the chest on your left. Then, enter the Athenaeum.

Discover the Secret of the Antechamber

Continue on until you reach a chasm. To make it across, cast Basic Cast at the rune above the door on the other side.

On the next room, dispose of the Paladins by any means necessary.

Don’t forget to use the environment to deal extra damage and Ancient Magic ( + / + ) when available. Ancient Magic accumulates by successful attack or taking damage. Successful 10+ hit combines will begin generating Ancient Magic Powers. Collecting these will greatly fill your Ancient Magic Meter and recover a small amount of health.

Continue to the next room and dispose of the next set of Paladins. When you’ve eliminated both of them, cast Basic Cast at the rune above the opening to continue forward.

In the next room, cast Basic Cast at the rune above the opening to spawn a platform on the right side of the room. From here, continue along the spawning platforms until you come to a forced stop. Then, cast Basic Cast at the rune once more to reveal a new set of platforms allowing you to reach a large chest inside a side room.

Now return to the main platform and cast Basic Cast at the rune one more time to get the platform to move towards you. Then, stand on the last available set of tiles and cast Basic Cast at the rune one last time to be able to get the platform to move to its original position and allow you to continue forward.

Once you’ve gotten across the opening, check both sides for two chests. In the next room, eliminate all Sentry and Paladin Guardians. When the door opens, approach the Pensieve and the book to trigger a cutscene.
