Introduction
Welcome to the Ninja Gaiden 4 Trophy Guide! For the first time, Ryu Hayabusa is not the main character, but in his place is Yakumo, a young Master Ninja of the Raven clan. You follow Yakumo on his journey throughout the area of Tokyo and its surroundings, which were corrupted by evil. You help him grow into a formidable Ninja that can take on the legendary Dark Dragon. You get to play as Ryu for 3 chapters and the gameplay returns to the classic Ninja Gaiden formula. When playing as Yakumo, you will have quite the learning curve as the game plays a bit differently than previous Ninja Gaidens.
This time, there are no online co-op trials required for trophies. Everything is done in the singleplayer campaign and the trials mode. You need pretty much 100% completion: finding all 15 Gourdies, 18 Purgatory Gates, 23 Health Upgrade Items, 55 Missions (of which 34 are chapter-specific and 21 general), and 13 Ryu Combat Skills. You must beat the game on the highest difficulty Master Ninja, which is unlocked after the first playthrough. And you will need to beat all challenges which consist of the 18 Combat Trials, 18 Purgatory Trials, and 14 Boss Trials. The time requirement for platinum is largely skill-dependent, it comes down to how many retries you need.
Step 1: Beat Campaign on Normal Difficulty, find all Collectibles
In order to unlock Master Ninja difficulty, you have to finish the story once on any difficulty. Theoretically, you could do this on the easiest difficulty, called “Hero”, but then you would have a huge difficulty spike for the Master Ninja playthrough. It’s better to play on Normal difficulty to get some practice for Master Ninja. If it’s your first Ninja Gaiden game, you could also opt for 3 playthroughs, starting on Hero, then doing a practice run on Normal or Hard before Master Ninja.
Along the way, follow the Ninja Gaiden 4 Collectible Guide, it will get you everything needed for trophies including Missions and Purgatory Trials. There’s still chapter select later to clean up collectibles and miscellaneous trophies, so nothing is missable. When doing the Purgatory Gates, you can play them on any difficulty you want and try to get the highest rewards. If you complete them all during your playthrough, it won’t be necessary to ever touch them again, since they will already have counted for
Challenger of Challenges.
For
The One Who Obliterates, make sure to obliterate each new enemy type you meet at least once. Just cut off a limb and then finish them with
to trigger an “Obliteration”.
There are a few chapter-specific trophies, but they are still doable via chapter select:
- Chapter 2 –
The Grind Never Stops – Don’t hit any obstacles/fall down while rail-skating. - Chapter 6 –
Free as a Bird – Don’t hit any obstacles while flying. - Chapter 10 –
Surf Ninja – Don’t hit any obstacles while you’re surfing and flying. - Chapter 12 –
Laser’s Edge – Don’t get hit by any lasers during the movement sections.
Everything will carry over to New Game+ as well (all upgrades, NinjaCoin, Weapon XP), hence you’ll want to gather all Collectibles on this playthrough to be fully equipped for Master Ninja!
Step 2: Beat all Combat Trials & Boss Trials
You should only be missing the Combat Trials and Boss Trials for
Challenger of Challenges. Refer to the trophy for tips and make sure to set the Boss Trials to the easiest difficulty (“Hero”) to make it as simple as possible. Also make sure to obliterate some Black Spider Ninjas while you are playing the Combat Trials, since they are the only enemies that don’t appear in the main story. They should be your last enemies for
The One Who Obliterates.
Step 3: Collect New Game+ Collectibles, complete the last Missions
Refer to the New Game+ Collectibles and finish grinding the remaining kill missions for
Work Horse. This way you will unlock the final health upgrades for
Ninja Fortitude and earn some more NinjaCoin before your Master Ninja run.
You could also complete the general kill challenges while playing Master Ninja, however it’s best that you use Ryu for Master Ninja. The catch is when you are playing as Ryu, you can only complete missions #23 and #24. You will not have access to any other mission and as such you are forced to play as Yakumo for them. That’s why you should first clean up the remaining missions and miscellaneous trophies tied to Yakumo’s weapons. Then you can play all of Master Ninja as Ryu who deals more damage.
Refer to these weapon trophies:
Master of the Blade,
Master of the Drill,
Master of the Hammer,
Master of the Toolbox,
Way of the Dragon,
Combo Master. They are all pretty straightforward and easy, you might already have some of them by this point.
Step 4: Beat Campaign on Master Ninja Difficulty
You can now focus entirely on your Master Ninja playthrough, which is the highest difficulty. For tips refer to
Way of the Master Ninja & Boss Fights on Master Ninja.

You first have to go into the Berserk State. You do that by performing kills and obliterations to fill up the purple circle to the right of the weapon wheel, then press + . Once in Berserk state, you just have to perform a move that will trigger a bloodbath kill, like the Kurama Splitter with the Takeminakata (Bloodrave form ). When you first unlock the weapon skills, the little text describing the move will always mention “triggering a Bloodbath Kill if in Berserk state”. So performing any of the moves that mention a Bloodbath Kill while you are in Berserk State will get you this trophy. |

Way of the Master Ninja Complete the game on MASTER NINJA difficulty |
|
| This can be done via chapter select and it’s recommended to play as Ryu Hayabusa. Ryu deals way more damage to all the bosses and can use Ninpos, which will massively help with every fight.
To have all the items unlocked that can make this a lot easier, follow the Ninja Gaiden 4 Collectible Guide for all the missions and chests. Complete all Boss Trials and Combat Trials to unlock the remaining items. You should also have all the Health Upgrades from finishing all missions. Recommended Accessories:
You have 5 slots available, and the Conspiracy Ring and the Blood Oath Scroll should always be in your loadout, so we have two more slots. For bosses it’s best to take either one of the God’s Orbs, depending on whether you prefer parries or dodges. Personally, I recommend the Shadow God’s Orb (unlocked from Combat Trial #17). As the second item take the Cobalt Ring if you want to play it safe and be able to take a few more hits. If you prefer a more aggressive build use the Raven Seal Case, as it gives you even more frequent access to Ninpos. So, your boss loadout would be: Conspiracy Ring, Blood Oath Scroll, Shadow God’s Orb. For any regular enemy encounter this is recommended: Conspiracy Ring, Blood Oath Scroll, Cobalt Ring, Leech Fang Amulet. Now that the item setup is finished, let’s go over the playstyle:
|

Ninja Fortitude Reach maximum health with Yakumo and Ryu |
|
| For this you will have to find all 20 health items with Yakumo and another 3 as Ryu. They are all either collectibles in the story or tied to missions and given as rewards for their completion. In your first playthrough you will get 19 of the 23 items and then the final 4 will be unlocked through the “find the flower kunai” missions exclusive to New Game+. Follow the Collectible Guide to find all of them or to look up ones you are missing. | ||
![]() |
Master of the Blade Use Takeminakata to attack 5 or more enemies at once |
|
Load up any of the chapters in the Drowned District where you have enemy portals spawning an unlimited amount of enemies. Keep killing and obliterating them until your Bloodbath gauge is completely full and then trigger a Bloodbath Slaughter when you have 5 enemies in front of you. Alternatively, get 5 enemies close to each other and perform + . So essentially a 360° attack. This will cause Yakumo to lash out in a large circular motion, hitting everything close by to him. |
||
![]() |
Master of the Drill Use Yatousen to inflict massive damage in a short time |
|
| Load up any of the chapters in the Drowned District where you have enemy portals spawning an unlimited amount of enemies. Keep killing and obliterating them until your Bloodbath gauge is completely full and then trigger a Bloodbath Slaughter when you have at least 5-6 enemies in front of you. Ideally, they should not be the fish fiends, but instead the fiends with corals on them or the dogs, as they can take more of a punishment before dying. | ||
![]() |
Master of the Hammer Use Magatsuhi to Bloodbath Kill 5 or more enemies in a short time |
|
| Load up any of the chapters in the Drowned District where you have enemy portals spawning an unlimited amount of enemies. Keep killing and obliterating them until your Bloodbath gauge is completely full and then trigger a Bloodbath Slaughter when you have 5 enemies in front of you. | ||
![]() |
Master of the Toolbox Use Kage-Hiruko to defeat an enemy launched in the air |
|
Kage-Hiruko is the 4th and last weapon you unlock with Yakumo and its light attack is throwing random ninja tools like shuriken, kunai or smoke bombs. Simply spam the light attack ( ) against a D.D.O. soldier with a kite. They are already in the air, so it counts if you kill one before they can touch the ground. You can also activate the bloodraven form to deal even more damage. |
||

Wielder of Darkness Recover the lost Dark Dragon Blade |

![]() |
Consumed by Corruption Defeat Oniwaka in his final encounter–he wouldn’t have lasted long in this world anyway |
|
This is tied to Mission #29 – Execute the possessed swordsman (Target Area: Fuuhaku Sanctum). You will have to complete all previous encounters with Onikawa and then finish him off for a fifth time in Chapter 6 in New Game+. Follow the Collectible Guide and you will unlock this automatically as well. The Missions tied to this are:
|
||
![]() |
Ninja Business Complete 20 Missions |
|
See Work Horse for all missions. Simply complete 20 of them for this trophy. You will automatically unlock this while going for the trophy that requires all missions. |
||
![]() |
NinjaCoin Miner Obtain 100,000 NinjaCoin |
|
| You don’t have to hold the 100,000 NinjaCoin at once. The 50,000 deluxe edition bonus does not count towards this. You will naturally reach this amount during the story, so the trophy is unmissable. | ||
![]() |
Need, not Greed Obtain 30 items |
|
| Simply keep opening chests for this. Any consumable item counts. If you just open the bare minimum of chests, you should still get this halfway through the game. | ||
![]() |
Way of the Dragon Defeat 3 enemies in a row with an Ultimate Technique |
|
Make sure to charge your Ultimate Technique to level 2, so Yakumo / Ryu starts to glow red. It’s quite common to at least kill three weaker enemies with an UT, so this trophy should unlock quite naturally. If you are still struggling, load up the Drowned District levels and kill three of the fish fiends with an UT. Takeminakata would be the recommended weapon for this, but all of them are quite capable to doing it. |
||
![]() |
Combo Master Achieve a 2000-point combo |
|
For this you have to string together a combo that’s worth 2000 points or more without taking damage in between and without constantly hitting enemies. This can be done quite easily by stringing together multiple Izuna Drops, landing and performing Ultimate Techniques. Again, this trophy should come naturally, however if you struggle with it, load up the Drowned District again and fill up your Bloodbath Gauge with the infinite enemies from the portals. Now hit as many enemies as possible to get your combo up and then quickly finish it with a Bloodbath Slaughter to get well over 2000 points. It’s even possible to get the combo simply by performing the Bloodbath Slaughter, as long as you hit enough enemies with it. Get together a group of 6 Foltogres (purple fiends with plastic looking skin and wielding iron clubs) in Chapter 10 and then performing the Bloodbath Slaughter with the Takeminakata . |

The Grind Never Stops Clear Chapter 02 without falling once (Auto Movement must be turned OFF) |
|
You have to complete the entire Chapter 2 without falling down when using the Caddis Wire or rail-skating. You can touch obstacles like the clamps that the drones drop in your way or get shot by enemies, but you can not completely fall off. The same goes for any sections in the mission where you are just fighting enemies. Don’t fall off the rooftops. This can be done on the lowest difficulty “Hero”. |
||
![]() |
Free as a Bird Clear Chapter 06 without hitting any obstacles (Auto Movement must be turned OFF) |
|
During the Chapter 6 Dragonfly Glider sections you are not allowed to hit anything. This is fairly easy and you will most likely earn it the first time you play the chapter. If not, set the difficulty to Hero (easiest setting) and replay the chapter until you get it. You can run past most of the enemies and complete the chapter in 15-20 minutes. |
||
![]() |
Surf Ninja Clear Chapter 10 without hitting any obstacles (Auto Movement must be turned OFF) |
|
When using the Pond Strider in Chapter 10 you are not allowed to crash into any obstacle or wall. If you just go straight for the main story path and don’t do optional things, this should be fairly easy to achieve, since the obstacles during the wild rapids sections are also easy to dodge. Keep replaying the chapter until you get it. Any failure will void the trophy and you cannot reload a checkpoint once you have hit something. If you noticed that you missed your jump during the falling section at the end, you can quickly reload the checkpoint here and still get the trophy. However, hitting any of the obstacles during the fall will also void it immediately. |
||
![]() |
Laser’s Edge Clear Chapter 12 without being hit by a laser (Auto Movement must be turned OFF) |
|
Chapter 12 is quite long, however there are only a few sections with lasers in them. You have to jump and slide underneath some of them while walking through the chapter regularly and you also have to fly through some lasers grids with the Dragonfly Glider. It doesn’t matter if you die in any other part of the level, just be extra careful when you enter a room with lasers or during the movement sections of the chapter. You can reload the checkpoint whenever you got hit by a laser and you will be safe to get the trophy. |
||

Master of Takeminakata Learn all Takeminakata Weapon Skills |
|
| You have to unlock all 12 skills with the red weapon XP currency that you receive for killing enemies or completing Purgatory Gates. If you simply play through the game twice while killing most enemies and complete all Purgatory Gates, you will have more than enough weapon XP to upgrade all of them. Alternatively, make sure that you save up to 350,000 weapon XP and then fully upgrade a weapon, reload the chapter and fully upgrade another one, since there is no trophy for having all weapons fully upgraded at the same time. | ||

You have to unlock all 12 skills with the red weapon XP currency that you receive for killing enemies or completing Purgatory Gates. If you simply play through the game twice while killing most enemies and complete all Purgatory Gates, you will have more than enough weapon XP to upgrade all of them. Master of Combat Learn all Combat Skills |
|
| You have to buy all Combat Skilly for Yakumo through Tyran’s shop. Keep visiting him throughout your playthrough and buy new skills when they become available. You will have more than enough NinjaCoins for this. For Ryu you have to collect all of his 13 skills hidden in chests in his 3 chapters – see Collectible Guide (can compare it against your skills what you’re missing). The trophy will unlock once you finished the campaign, when Yakumo’s and Ryu’s inventories will be combined. | ||

The One Who Obliterates Obliterate every enemy |
|
To obliterate an enemy, you have to cut off one of their limbs and then perform an Obliteration Technique by pressing next to them. When you head over to Archives > Enemies you can see all 36 story enemies and the Black Spider Ninjas, which are only found in the Combat Trials. Make sure that every time the game introduces a new enemy type, you kill them with an obliteration. Once you defeat a boss, you always have to finish them off with an obliteration, so boss obliterations are all unmissable. Out of all of the other remaining enemies, you can not perform an obliteration on the following:
That means that you will have to obliterate the remaining 33 different enemies. Some enemies like the D.D.O. soldiers have different variants of them, like the flying ones, the rocket launcher ones, or the spear-wielding ones. All of the variants are also required! The following enemies have different variations, which you can see when you click on their archive entry:

Critter Collector Collect every Gourdy |
|
| Refer to the Ninja Gaiden 4 Collectible Guide for all 15 Gourdy Locations. If you forgot to pick one up during the story you can quickly get it through chapter select. You will be able to see your Gourdy collectibles in Chapter Select too. If a chapter says 0/1, you know that you have to head back into that chapter and find the Gourdy. The chapters that have Gourdies are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (2x), 6, 7, 8, 9 (2x), 11, 12, 19. | ||
![]() |
Work Horse Complete all Missions |
|
| There are 55 missions total. They are all covered as part of the Collectible Guide. | ||
![]() |
Annihilator Complete all Purgatory trials |
|
| Refer to the Ninja Gaiden 4 Collectible Guide for all 18 Purgatory Gate Locations. For trophies it’s enough to complete them on the lowest difficulty (“Hero”). However, it’s good to complete them on the highest difficulty that you feel comfortable with, as you will earn more weapon XP and NinjaCoin. You have to find and complete them all in the campaign. Completing ones you missed during your playthrough in the challenge section of the main menu will not unlock this trophy! | ||
![]() |
Shadow Incarnate Complete any chapter without dying (excluding Chapters 00 and 14) |
|
| Set the game to the lowest difficulty (“Hero”) if you are struggling with this and replay Chapter 2, as it has quite an easy final boss. Alternatively, Chapter 7 only consists of a final boss. Simply make sure not to die or use the Incense of Rebirth. Keep using and buying all of the other healing items as much as you want. Accessories that raise your defense can also help with this. After the first playthrough your items carry over into New Game+ so take advantage of that. | ||
![]() |
Challenger of Challenges Complete all Challenges |
|
| For this you need to complete all 14 Boss Trials, 13 of which are unlocked by completing the story once and the 14th one by defeating Onikawa in Chapter 6 in New Game+ during Mission #29. You also have to complete all 18 Combat Trials and all 18 Purgatory Trials (Purgatory Gates). You can select the lowest difficulty for the Purgatory Gates and play on Hero for the boss trials. You should have already completed all of the Purgatory Gates if you followed the Collectible Guide. If you missed some, make sure to complete them in the story chapters and not the Challenge Mode section of the main menu. They don’t count properly for the trophy when playing through them the Main Menu Challenge Mode.

How? According to the guide, you can finish them in any difficulty…

Haven’t started the master run yet, but man these challenges are something else!!!
I think do agree since on master run you have all the time in the world and the items you need.

Again as always, thanks powerpyx.
Question regarding collectables/missions, if im missing any and trying to get by chapter select, do i have to finish the chapter for it to save of just get it and leave ?
Thank you in advance.

You have to finish the entire chapter unfortunately!

Thanks for the guide Cries^^ Will def recommend this to people!

Hello, if i started a ng+ on master ninja , i’m at chapter 9, is it possible to do the rest via chapter select and still get the trophy you think ? or i need to finish the new game+ ? Beause i didn’t know so i want to continue with ryu
CriesOfFurya says
I do not know unfortunately, you would be the first one to try that. But even if you do not get the trophy after that, I think it’s worth playing the entire thing with Ryu. It will be quite annoying with Yakumo later on.
If you do decide to finish it in chapter challenge mode with Ryu, update me here please, so I can add it to the guide 🙂
Meneer UYL says
Wait so does Chapter Challenge on MN just with Ryu in full count or not count for the MN difficulty story trophy? I am seeing mixed signals in the guide vs this comment thread..
Mike says
Good thing I skipped it and didn’t buy it.
CriesOfFurya says
Why would you say that? The game is fantastic! Definitely having a great time with the game.
Tony says
Do the collectibles obtained during chapter selection carry over into NG+? Are the benefits from collectibles transferred to the subsequent chapters selected after finishing the campaign? Or, generally speaking, is it better to do three blind runs (one without a collectibles guide, one with a collectibles guide, and one Master Ninja run)?”
CriesOfFurya says
Everything is tied to your main save file, which you have to load every time you start a chapter challenge run. So everything you collect in your first run, will instantly be available in any chapter that you select afterwards. Also if you finish a chapter on its own to collect a missing collectible, you will have it permanently unlock going forward from that point. So yeah, doing a blind run and then a collectible run is definitely an option.
cyber1000 says
For those struggling with “The one who obliterates”, CrankyOM42 on reddit helped me out and told me we can do it on training mode, simply select the enemies one by one and OT them, assuming you have every enemy unlocked it should pop your achievement.
In my case i was missing the Enhanced shuriken guy because it looks a lot like the regular and i may have missed it think i already had done it. Hope this helps someone else!

Did you complete Chapter 00 as well? I did it through Chapter Select and got the trophy.
On another note, Laser’s Edge doesn’t unlock if you reload checkpoint. I tried and it did not work.
Cardinalbird5 says
Same. I did chapter select with Ryu and the trophy won’t pop. It says I have 100 pct completion on master ninja in the records.
I tried doing the last level again on MN and tried a few other random missions even with Yakumo. I resycned my trophies and even reinstalled the game. It still won’t pop.

Where do we get Shadow God’s Orb – Perfect Dodge Timing Increase – 1 slot? I don’t see it in the Collectibles guide.

It’s from Combat Trial 17. I was doing this out of order so I didn’t find this until after story.
Justin says
How many skills are there to unlock for the Dark Dragon Blade? I Have it saying 8 of 8 and no trophy popped. Is there 12? And if so how to I unlock the remaining 4
Thank You!
Ryu_Hayabusa says
I just finished the game on Master Ninja difficulty using chapter select, but the trophy didn’t pop. I had auto movement turned on the whole time — could that be the reason?
Has anyone else had this issue or managed to unlock the trophy with auto movement enabled?

I am new to Ninja Gaiden, and this game is destroying me on Hard lmao.
I completed the first stage in almost 2 hours and died a total of 21 times (did the purgatory in hard difficulty too, since I saw it gives you more EXP).
I do not think it will be THIS hard.
Mac says
Fyi, I was still able to get the chapter 2 trophy for not falling by restarting checkpoint even though I fell twice during a fight. I just restarted immediately once I respawned.

Important note about ‘The one who obliterates’: you can obliterate enemies in training mode and it will count! I don’t think this is mentioned anywhere in the guide but it’s pretty important info. As long as you have the entry for the enemy in the Archive section, you can go into training mode and work your way down the list of enemies you may have missed. I just got the trophy that way.
