Like a Dragon: Ishin! Memoirs Locations Guide

Memoirs are a unique collectible type in Like a Dragon: Ishin! tied to substories 70, 71, and 72. You can’t find them until you have completed substory 70, at which point they’ll appear in the game world.

Most of them seem to be tied to other substories in that they won’t appear until the substory near that spot is completed, so if you go to a spot and can’t find the memoir you may need to complete other nearby substories or progress the main story itself. Refer to Like a Dragon: Ishin Substory Guide for that.

All memoirs can be picked up after the story in Premium Adventure and none are missable, so it can be helpful to leave them until the very end as your last group of substories.

Memoirs appear as shiny spots on the ground, the same as how Prize Tickets appear. If you are in Premium Adventure and are having trouble spotting them you can change the time of day at Teradaya to nighttime to make the shiny spots easier to see on the ground. This guide also includes maps with the Memoirs marked as red dots.

Observations of a Mimawarigumi Trooper – Immediately east of Sushi Zanmai

“Divine Punishment Rendered Once More!” – In the middle of Sinjo Bridge leading to Gion

An Account from Tosa – In the corner of the road northeast of Nichibuza

“The Extraordinary Voyage of Nakahama Manjiro” – In the L-shaped street in the Teramachi area, directly south of  Hanamaru Udon

Rakugai

Reflections of a Satsuma Samurai – In front of the shack where the Mysterious Merchant is after completing substory 27

Excerpt from a History Textbook – Directly north of Shady Bar in the middle of the road

Observations of a Hatamoto – In front of the Gambling Den. Appears in Chapter 13.

Musings of a Man Who Crossed the Sea – Directly in front of Shikokuya

“Regarding a Certain Merchant” – Immediately in front of Unyuan (William Bradley’s hideout)

Mukurogai

Musings of an Official in Uraga – At the end of the dock beside Professor Shinbei

Final Statement on the Sono Juoi – Northwest corner by the gate to Rakugai

An Assassin’s Plot – North shoreline, near the crowd of dudes who stand by the wall

Fushimi

“The Rise of the Tokugawa Bakufu”– Automatically given during the substory introducing the memoirs

Letter from a Tavernkeeper in Uraga – Southeast corner of South Fushimi Ichibangai area, by the end of the dock

Diatribe of a Raid Survivor – On the north side of Teradaya, in the middle of the road in the road just south of Matsunoi

Thoughts on the Wolves – In the middle of the road just west of the Teradaya

Journey from an Edo Rowhouse: Noon – In the road immediately south of Umai Udon

A Letter from the Right Honorable Sir E. Satow. – Automatically received at the end of substory 72.

Gossip from a Seafaring Warrior – In Teradaya, upstairs at the end of the hallway to the left. Appears in Chapter 12.

Gion

Journal from an Edo Rowhouse: Night – Left side of the road between Yamabuki and the palanquin spot

Notes from a Spy – To the right of the entrance to Kasuga

Other

Diary of a Housewife – On the north edge of the path, slightly east of the palanquin spot.

Abandoned Journal of a Shinsengumi Trooper – East of the entrance to Shinsengumi Barracks, near the grass.

Treatise in Defense of Ii Naosuke – At the end of the forest path (south bridge leading east out of Rakugai), just before the large gate.

NOTE: This one seems to not appear until you complete every possible substory except 72 along with giving all other possible memoirs to Satow.

Journal from an Edo Rowhouse: Morning – At your house, sitting near the chicken coop, Appears after completing bond with one of the dogs and having them come live at the house.
