Introduction

Welcome to the Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS4) Trophy Guide! This PS3 fighting game is re-released on PS4 after almost 8 years. It is the newest version which was only available in arcades so far. Expect some balance changes to your favorite characters and game mechanics. The trophy list itself is almost a 1 to 1 copy of the original list on the PS3, the only difference being The P-1 Climax Begins! Trophy which this time around is awarded by starting the story mode and not by simply booting up the game like in the original.

People who played the original will notice a few changes from the PS3 Version when it comes to the Golden Arena mode. The amount of floors for each course is doubled now. Bathhouse Course went from 50 to 100 Floors, Void Course from 100 to 200 and Research Lab Course from 200 to 400. This sounds like the trophy requirements doubled for this mode but there is also a new type of Golden Arena Course called Event Course. The first Event Course has only 50 Floors but a difficult battle at the end. It may be worth checking out the Event Courses now and then to see if they rotate since they are called Event Course after all.

Another big change is the Combo Challenges – the DLC characters from the main game are now no longer DLC so their individual trophies got removed. However, old methods you might have used for the puzzle challenges #25 may no longer work. The Arcade Update of this game reduced damage all over the cast and your old methods for performing a Combo of certain damage pretty much are useless now. For example, for the old known methods for characters like Adachi, Marie and Margaret their SP moves deal significantly less damage and reach only about 75% damage of what they did before. Therefore you need new methods to clear this challenge, since once again you can’t view a demonstration for the required combos unless you clear them first.

Step 1: Finish the Tutorial and Combo Challenges

As per usual in a fighting game you should do the tutorials first to get used to the game mechanics. Follow up with combo challenges which will give you an overview of what all the characters can do and might help you find your character preference for the game as well. You obviously don’t have to remember all the super difficult expert combos but basic knowledge of your character should always be your first priority when approaching a fighting game.

Step 2: Story Mode, Arcade Mode, Score Attack

Either watch all the cutscenes in the story mode or skip through them and it will be done in less than 90 minutes, you can also turn on Auto-Mode so the AI does all the fights for you. Arcade Mode you will have to finish 3 times with a different character each time – you can go to the options and set round count to 1 and difficulty to safe and breeze through it in no time. For Score Attack you can simply finish the 4 courses on the easiest difficulty and one on the second easiest – you don’t have to do the hardest one.

Step 3: Golden Arena

This is where you will spend the majority of your time with the game. It is just fighting as usual but with RPG elements like upgrading your character’s stats and using equipped skills to your advantage, which the enemy can do as well. Ideally, you want to use a character with a good SP move, preferably a multi-hit projectile like Naoto’s to take advantage of a specific skill you want to use but more about it in the trophy guide.

Step 4: Online Mode

You will have to fight a total of 100 fights in the online mode and you should get all the other trophies on your way. It is highly recommended to simply boost the online trophies since it is extremely easy to boost the game and also helps with fighting all the different characters in the game, since playing random players is a lottery – you can’t force them to use a specific character you still need to fight against. With a partner the online trophies become extremely easy.

You will have to finish the Arcade Mode with 3 different characters. It is just 8 fights you will have to win and it can be sped up drastically by changing the game settings in the options to 1 Round and difficulty to Safety. Once the round starts you can simply use your Burst :l3: offensively on the opponent to fill up your meter up to 100 immediately and follow up with    + :triangle: + :circle: for the insta kill move to finish each round in a matter of seconds.

Note: Shadow Labrys’ insta kill is    + :x: + :square: followed by doing the same combination of    + :x: + :square: again to grab the enemy after the activation instead. Aigis has to perform her insta kill move with    + :triangle: + :circle: in the air. Shadow Characters and Sho (without Persona) do not have insta kill moves at all.

After winning one round you can once again go for the Burst :l3: followed by instant kill    + :triangle: + :circle: in the second round. Should your instant kill miss just finish the round normally or try again when your meter fills up to 100 again. It is a series of 10 fights each time but on the easiest difficulty the enemy AI is not a threat at all.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap Arena Domination
You completed three Golden Arena courses!
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
The most time-consuming trophy in the game.

Start by picking your character – characters with super moves dealing multiple hits like Elizabeth or Naoto are recommended. Choose the Bathhouse course first and use Labrys as your social link. After each level up you can spend your points on strength, magic and other stuff. You want to focus on your health and strength and you can also put a few points into Luck so you level up a bit quicker. SP Bar and Burst are pretty useless.

The first course has 100 Floors with a boss each 5 floors which will grant you a skill you can use in one of your 4 skill slots. At the beginning try to got defense/attack buffs and healing. Towards the higher floors you want to keep an eye open for skills called Die for Me! and Black Viper. Black Viper has you and the opponent start with full SP bar and Die for Me! gives you a chance to instantly kill the opponent when using an SP move – with this combination and a multi-hit sp move like Naoto’s or Elizabeth you have higher chances to instantly finish the fight.

The second course is 200 floors long and has higher level enemies. Once again keep an eye open for the 2 skills mentioned and keep leveling your strengths and health. Labrys social link makes the opponent and yourself unable to block but it is more a disadvantage for them than for you if you play super aggressively. With the Black Viper skill you can use your super as soon as the fight starts and the opponent can’t block it and might die immediately.

After clearing the first 2 courses you have the choice of either going through a 400 floor course or going through the 50 floor event course which is way faster but has pretty strong enemies towards the end and an extremely unfair fight against Margaret at the end which requires luck, up to you. We recommend the 50 floor event course since it is way faster but you need a bit of luck for Die for Me! to trigger on the final fight against Margaret since with Labrys skill you can’t block and you can’t combo her at all. Your attacks will hit her but she will not react at all and can tank through them. You need one single lucky hit for Die for Me! to trigger and that’s why multi-hit supers are recommended – more hits mean more chances for the skill to trigger the instant kill.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap Irreplaceable Bond
You maxed out a Social Link in Golden Arena Mode!
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
After choosing a course in Golden Arena you can choose a Social Link which will provide you with buffs during the fights. Sticking to one of them through your runs guarantees it reaching the max level 10 automatically. Recommended one to use is Labrys which disables blocking for both you and the opponent making them punchbags most of the time.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap Baby Steps
You started on the road to knowledge.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
Unlocked by completing a single tutorial lesson.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap Cram Session
You studied 20 different Lessons.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
Unlocked by completing 20 out of the 60 tutorial lessons. Very easy to obtain the trophy but if you are new to the game you probably want to finish all the remaining tutorials as well to learn how the game works.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap 30-Minute Workout
You Trained for 30 minutes straight!
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
Head into training mode and spend 30 minutes there practicing your combos or situations. You actually have to be hitting the enemy for the time to count – just letting the game idle for 30 minutes will not unlock the trophy.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap Don’t Think, Feel
You completed all of one character’s challenges!
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
Luckily you only have to finish one character for this trophy. People who played the original on PS3 might immediately think of Margaret as the chosen one. Unfortunately, she is no longer the easiest character to finish all challenges with. Because of the game being the updated Arcade version, many moves went through balance changes making many old combos obsolete.

Because of reduced damage on SP moves many known routes for challenges 25 no longer work and will have to be rerouted to deal the required damage again. Margaret, Adachi and Marie (the DLC trio from the PS3 version) are no longer possible with the known methods because of the high scaling on their SP moves in their combos.

With those 3 eliminated the easiest character to finish the challenges with is Shadow Labrys – not only are her combos the easiest, but also her Challenge #25 stays the same because it doesn’t require any specific damage number but instead asks you to combine Brutal Impact twice in a combo. Additionally, she only has 25 Challenges compared to 30 most of the other characters have since she doesn’t have a Shadow Version and with that the additional 5 Combo Challenges. Check the Video below on how to perform her combo challenges.

For Challenge #25 the inputs are:

 :left:  :left: :triangle: – hold :left: :right: :triangle: – :left: + :triangle: – :right: :triangle: – :left:  :left: :x: + :square: – :left:  :left: :x: + :square:

Explanation of what is happening: the first move  :left:  :left: :triangle: activates the Titanomachia Super. What happens during the Super depends on what you input during this freeze animation. Hold :left: :right: + :triangle: is the first move you input and what it makes the bull go forward but because of the distance it misses (intended). The second move  :left: :triangle: makes the bull do a groundshake with his fist (misses as well) and the third one  :right: :triangle: is the laser.

You will hear a clicking sound when inputting the 3 moves during Titanomachia confirming your inputs and the number next to the fist will go up to 4. Right after inputting the 3 moves for the bull to perform input your first Brutal Impact with  :left:  :left: :x: + :square: . What should happen is: the bull will miss with both the dash and the fist attack, you will hit the enemy with Brutal Impact and the laser will continue the combo after that. Immediately after your first Brutal Impact, input it again with  :left:  :left: :x: + :square: but this time hold down the :x: + :square: buttons. After hitting with the laser the bull will do the Titanomachia finisher which shoots up the flames and launches the opponent high up into the air. Once Yu starts dropping again let go of the buttons and the second Brutal Impact will follow for the combo to complete. The timing is a bit strict but it is still the easiest combo you can go for in this version of the game.

You completed 150 challenges!

See Combination Master.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap Combination Master
You completed 300 challenges!
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
You will have to complete 300 Challenges. The good news is it’s barely half of all the available challenges. Each character has 25 Challenges + 5 Additional Ones if the character has a Shadow version. The first 10 combo challenges are always performing some simple moves and challenges 11-16/17 are always simple bread and butter combos. Just do as many as you can with each of the characters and you will probably unlock the trophy without even trying out all the characters in the game.

  • Now actually hit the opponent 3 times with the same furious action – this will load all 3 Bases
  • Now hit the opponent with 3 furious actions on block – will give you 3 Balls
  • Whiff the furious action 2 more times now – will give you 2 strikes

You used an Awakened SP Skill Boost in Arcade or Network Mode.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
To use an Awakened SP Skill you will have to awaken first, which happens once your health drops a certain threshold. Your character’s face will appear over the screen which means you have awakened. In the pause menu you can check how to perform your character’s SP skill – you will recognize it by a small red square next to the move’s name. Since it is a SP move it needs at least 50 SP bar to be performed.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap The Punk’s Way
You defeated an opponent without letting them Awaken in Arcade or Network Mode.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
The easiest way to do that is by instant killing your enemy with :l3: Burst +   + :triangle: + :circle: combination. Since it kills the enemy instantly on hit they are left with no change to awaken.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap The Divine Way
You successfully used each character’s Instant Kill move in Arcade or Network Mode.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
Instant Kill move can be performed in the final round of a match by spending 100 of your SP bar. It is recommended to do it in a private online lobby with a partner.

The following characters have a Install Kill move:

   + :triangle: + :circle: – Yu, Labrys, Chie, Yosuke, Kanji, Margaret, Sho (with Persona), Adachi, Marie, Akihiko, Yukari, Teddie, Naoto, Yukiko, Mitsuru, Junpei, Rise, Ken

   + :triangle: + :circle: while in the air – Aigis

   + :triangle: + :circle: – counter, opponent has to hit you – Elizabeth

   + :x: + :square: followed by    + :x: + :square: to grab the enemy: Shadow Labrys

Once you perform each once the trophy will unlock. Shadow Characters and Sho (without persona) do not have an Instant Kill move.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap Good Job!
You achieved a Perfect victory in Arcade or Network Mode!
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS5) Trophy Guide & Roadmap
Beat your opponent without getting hit yourself. Easiest way is by boosting it with a partner online. But the AI in Arcade Mode on Safety is extremely easy so you might unlock it there easily as well. Additionally using the Burst + Insta Kill Combo also perfects your opponent most of the time.
