In Pokémon Legends Z-A you can use Mega Evolutions on certain Pokémon to temporarily make them transform into even stronger versions. This gives them a buff to all of their stats to gain a significant advantage in battle.
How to unlock Mega Evolutions: you automatically unlock the ability to use Mega Evolutions from story progress in Main Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution. At the start of the quest you will receive the Mega Ring and get a tutorial on Mega Evolutions.
Afterward you can use Mega Evolutions by pressing the right stick when the purple bubble in the bottom right of the screen is fully charged. You can charge it up against regular Pokémon by landing attacks. Every hit will fill it up a little bit. When fighting Rogue Mega Evolved Pokémon they will drop little bubbles that increase your charge.
Once a Mega Evolution is activated, the purple bubble in the bottom right will start to deplete. After about a minute the Mega Evolution will run out and your Pokémon transforms back to its regular form. However, you can pause the timer by switching to another Pokémon. You can even trigger multiple Mega Evolutions during the same match. You can activate one Mega Evolution as soon as the match starts, after it runs out build up another charge to mega evolve another Pokémon.
Mega Evolutions only work on certain Pokémon that have reached their final evolution stage. Additionally, you will need to give the Pokémon a compatible Mega Stone. Refer to All Megastone Locations.
