Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Recovering the Hero’s Sword Walkthrough

May 16, 2023 by PowerPyx Leave a Comment

Recovering the Hero’s Sword is a Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Recovering the Hero’s Sword story mission.

Requirement: Finished Main Quest: Trail of the Master Sword
Reward:
 Master Sword (Legendary Melee Weapon)
Quest Info:
The darkness-sealing sword, the Master Sword, vanished in the Temple of Time on the Great Sky Island. The Deku Tree can feel the sword’s presence and says that the Master Sword is moving. What could that mean?

Objectives:

  • Get 2 Full Stamina Bars (5 Stamina Upgrades)
  • Pull Master Sword from Flying Light Dragon

Starting Location: Recovering the Hero’s Sword

Recovering the Hero’s Sword starts automatically upon completing Main Quest: Trail of the Master Sword in Hyrule Forest. A yellow quest marker will automatically be placed on your map, showing the location of the Master Sword. However, you will notice it’s moving around, that’s because it’s on a flying dragon.

Get 2 Full Stamina Bars (5 Stamina Upgrades)

A mandatory prerequisite to pull out the Master Sword is to have 2 full green Stamina Bars. This requires a total of 5 Stamina Upgrades from angel statues. You must trade 20 Lights of Blessing to Angel Statues. Lights of Blessing are obtained from finishing any 20 Shrines. Refer to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom All Shrine Locations & Solutions.

This is how much stamina you need:

Each Stamina Upgrade requires 4 Lights of Blessing and increases your stamina by 20%. So 5 upgrades give you an extra 100% stamina. Do note that yellow stamina from sleeping in the expensive bed at stables won’t work for this!

You can find an angel statue in Lookout Landing, in the bunker in the town square. Trade in your Lights of Blessing there:

Pull Master Sword from Flying Light Dragon

Once you have 2 full green stamina circles, you will be able to pull out the Master Sword from the head of the flying white dragon. It will be marked on the map and typically flies between Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower & Rospro Pass Skyview Tower. If you haven’t activated those skyview towers yet refer to All Skview Tower Solutions.

Catapult up the towers and glide to the dragon’s head. If the dragon is too far from a tower simply wait until it gets closer.

On the dragon’s head is the Master Sword. Press :a2: to pull it.

Keep holding :a2: until the sword is fully pulled out. This will drain a full 2 circles of green stamina. If you stop holding the button or run out of stamina, you get tossed off but can retry as often as needed.

This is simply a test of your overall stamina to see if you are worthy of wielding the Master Sword. Afterward, a cutscene triggers and the quest ends. A very short quest if you already have enough stamina going into it, or potentially a long one if you need to grind out 20 Shrines for stamina upgrades.

Afterward you can select the Master Sword as a weapon from your inventory.

This finishes Recovering the Hero’s Sword Main Quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Next Quest: Destroy Ganondorf

For all other Quests refer to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Walkthrough.
