God of War Ragnarok has 8 Chaos Flame Locations. They are used to upgrade the level of the Blades of Chaos, one of your weapons. The Blades start at Level 1, using 8 Chaos Flames upgrades it to Level 9 which is the maximum (Level 1 Starting Level + 8 Chaos Flames = Level 9).
You can use the Chaos Flames at the Blacksmith to upgrade the Blades of Chaos. This also increases your average equipment level as seen in the top left corner of the Weapons Menu. The higher your overall level, the more powerful you become. Each level also increases the damage of the blades.
You get all Chaos Flames automatically while going for 100% Completion. The majority is dropped by mandatory story bosses. If you forgot to loot one, the item is automatically placed in the blue chest at the blacksmith and can be retrieved from there.

Automatic from story, can’t miss it. Dropped by Dreki boss in Mission 02: The Quest for Tyr. If you didn’t loot it, the item is placed in the blue chest at the blacksmith.

Automatic from story, can’t miss it. Dropped by Forest Ancient boss in Mission 06: The Reckoning. If you didn’t loot it, the item is placed in the blue chest at the blacksmith.

Automatic from story, can’t miss it. Dropped by Frost Phantom boss in Mission 09: The Word of Fate. If you didn’t loot it, the item is placed in the blue chest at the blacksmith.
Chaos Flame #4
Automatic from story, can’t miss it. Dropped by Double Dreki boss in Mission 13: Creatures of Prophecy. If you didn’t loot it, the item is placed in the blue chest at the blacksmith.
Chaos Flame #5
Automatic from story, can’t miss it. Dropped by Double Soul Eater boss in Mission 16: The Summoning. If you didn’t loot it, the item is placed in the blue chest at the blacksmith.
Chaos Flame #6
Reward for doing the first 6 Muspeheilm Trials. Afterward you can open the Nornir Chest in The Crucible to get it as a reward.
Chaos Flame #7
Reward from Berserker Gravestone in Vanaheim – The Sinkholes.
Chaos Flame #8
Reward for doing all 6 Draugr Holes. Each gives a Chaos Spark, the 6 Chaos Sparks together form 1 Chaos Flame.
That’s all 8 Chaos Flames to fully upgrade the Blades of Chaos.

I did not receive a Chaos Flame from the Frost Phantom in The Word of Fate mission. Replayed multiple times and it always only drops a Jewel of Yddgrasil and not the flame. I have also tried clearing to check the chest at the blacksmith and there’s nothing there either.

Im missing one from somewhere and I’ve done everything on this list. Only thing I can think of is maybe im experiencing the same issue a guy in this thread mentioned about not getting one from the Frost Phantom. I just got one from Draugr completion moments ago, got one from Muspelheim for sure, I remember, and remember getting the one in the Sinkbole in Vanaheim. The rest are supposed to be story related, something didnt give me one.

I just commented. I believe that I didnt get the last one in Muspelheim yet. It’s near the end of the game. Wondering if the others had the same issue. I think that accounts for all of them.
