Entangled is the 17th main mission in Starfield. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Entangled main quest.

Investigate the distress signal
This mission starts automatically during Final Glimpses when you reach Freya III. Land at the marked location to find Nishina Research Station.
Enter Nishina Research Station
On the planet’s surface, head to the station and speak with the person on the intercom to be let inside. Note that if you have a companion with you currently they won’t follow you inside, you get to complete this mission solo.
Speak to Ethan
Head inside and wait for Ethan to let you in, then speak with him after he opens the door. You can ask him a few questions, or proceed immediately.
Follow Ethan
Start following Ethan through the station.
Explore the ruins
After a short period, you’ll be transported to a different area, without Ethan. Walk forward to explore a bit and be attacked by some alien enemies. You’ll then shortly be warped back to Ethan, who is surprised about what has occurred. Keep following him through the hallway until you are warped back again.
Speak to Rafael
When you are warped to the other world again you can follow the objective a short distance ahead to find Rafael, the man who actually sent the distress signal. Speak to him about what’s happening until you are warped back again to Ethan mid-conversation, then follow him out into the hallway.
Find the Director’s Office
You’ll now need to make your way to the Director’s Office after being warped back. You can keep following the linear path ahead, following the objective in the scanner if you get turned around. In the destroyed universe where you found Rafael you’ll be attacked by more alien creatures along the way, so watch out for them appearing out of the ground. When you reach the upstairs area you’ll be warped back to Ethan, and can follow him to the Director’s Office.
Speak to Director Patel
In the Office, speak with Director Patel about what’s occurring. They take everything going on quite well, and you can respond how you like.
Follow Maria
After speaking with the pair, follow Maria out of the office for another unhelpful universe shift.
Get to the Lab
Back in the destroyed universe, you need to find a way to make it back to reach the lab. Turn around from where you were facing and follow the path, dealing with any enemies along the way. There are some helpful items in the side rooms if you feel like exploring along the way.
Speak to Rafael
When you reach the spot with the hole in the ground, go down to find where you just were and speak with Rafael again. He gives you the key for the pantry, which allows you to progress through the locked door in this room.
Keep following the path as you shift back and forth a couple of times, scaring the other station workers along the way.
Speak to Ethan
Eventually, you’ll end up warping directly into the security office with Ethan. Speak to him and he’ll unlock the door for you to progress towards the lab. You can also ask him some other questions here about the enemies you’re seeing, which will prompt a Persuasion opportunity where you can talk him into giving you a unique weapon.
Continue following the path after he opens the door, dealing with more enemies as you warp to the destroyed universe. When you reach the large open room, head through the door on the left with the emergency sign to reach the second floor where the Lab is.
Speak to Maria
When you finally reach the Lab, speak with Maria to continue.
Assist Maria
You’ll now need to help Maria calibrate the probe to help with your warping. Wait for her to adjust things on her own.
Stand in the distortion
After she prompts you to, stand in the distortion that’s appeared in the lab.
Find a probe control unit
After a moment you’ll be warped to the destroyed universe again. In this version of the Lab, go over to the desk and interact with the probe sitting on the desk to pick it up.
Recalibrate the distortion
With this probe in hand, you won’t be warping between dimensions randomly anymore. Head over to the new distortion (when warping back and forth now the distortions will be in different locations) and interact with it to return to Maria.
Speak to Maria
Speak with Maria again to let her know what happened and to get some info about your new task.
Speak to Director Patel
She then lets you know that Director Patel wanted to speak with you. Follow the path out to their office, without fear of warping this time.
(Optional) Get supplies
After the conversation with Director Patel she’ll let you know that Dr. Barakova will give you some supplies if you wish. Head over and speak with her to receive some extra healing items.
Take the elevator
Next, you’ll need to make your way to the elevator to reach the lower level. If you want to explore this area now is the time, as you can freely warp back and forth between dimensions by interacting with the anomalies. When you’re ready to go, follow the objective in the normal universe to the elevator, and interact with the distortion to warp to the destroyed universe where you can then take the elevator down.
Get to the lab
Now in the underground area, you’ll be continually warping back and forth between universes to progress to the probe location. Note that you will now also be fighting enemies in both universes, as the normal universe has automated defenses that will continually attack you until they are destroyed or you shut them off.
First, immediately warp to the normal universe so that you can reach the far side of the room.
Override the lockdown in the Facilities section
The first area is locked with a security door that you need to disable. Ahead there is a master locked door you can pick if you feel like, or interact with the distortion beside it to switch to the destroyed universe.
Walk through the doorway and follow the objective to the end where you can find the Nishina Particle Lab keycard. Pick it up and then use the distortion in the corner.
You’ll start being attacked by the automated defenses in this room if you’re spotted by the security camera ahead. If you destroy it before it spots you the defenses won’t attack, but if you do you’ll be attacked by a number of robots, along with turrets in the ceiling. Make your way through the door ahead and down the stairs and watch for the other camera and turret down the hallway. Most of the doors ahead are blocked by security doors, so go into the room on the right and interact with the distortion beside the silver tanks.
In the destroyed dimension you can now walk into the far room where the objective is. Warp back once more using the distortion in the long hallway and then interact with the computer to disable the lockdown in this area. You can also disable the robots and turrets in this area from this computer.
Follow the path through the now unlocked doors into the next area.
Override the lockdown in the Accelerator section
You’ll immediately be stopped by another set of security doors. Interact with the distortion in this hallway to warp to the destroyed universe, where you’ll be able to follow the path a short distance to a second distortion, warping you back and allowing you to enter the large room ahead. This room has a number more turrets and robots in it that can spot you went you enter, so watch out for things attacking you.
You first need to get into the room on the left side of this area (relative to where you entered). There are a couple of anomalies in this area, but for simplicity, you can find one on the second floor just above where the objective is.
Watch out for alien enemies when you warp to the other universe, as they will appear out of the ground all throughout the room to attack you. Head into the room with the objective and you will be able to pick up another key.
Go back out of the room, staying in the destroyed universe. You now need to go to the other side of the room to enter the other area and disable the lockdown. Watch out for the alien enemies, then use one of the anomalies here to change to the normal universe, allowing you to use the key you picked up to enter the utility closet in the corner.
Use the distortion in the utility closet to warp back to the destroyed universe, then walk into the room beside and warp back to the normal universe, where you can find the mainframe computer, allowing you to override the first part of the lockdown.
Watch out for the turret that will activate in this room, then use one of the anomalies to warp back to the destroyed universe, backtracking through the utility closet path. Warp back to the normal version of the main room, where you can then fully override the lockdown.
This opens all the security doors, but note the robots in here will still attack you if you’ve not dealt with them already. Follow the linear path to the objective through the door in the opposite corner of the room, interacting with the distortion you walk by to allow you to progress. In the cave you reach, climb the path in the middle to reach the upper floor, interacting with another distortion to switch to the normal universe. Continue into the next room where you will be attacked by more security robots, then switch universes using another distortion. You can then head through the destroyed wall in the far corner of the room.
Progress through this final cave with more alien enemies until you reach a final security room. Interact with the marked distortion.
Override the lockdown in the Storage section
You have one more lockdown to override, but this one is easy. Interact with the Storage computer in the corner of the room and disable security so you can leave.
Follow the path out of the room, watching for the security enemies that will be activated. When you reach the room with the big tubes you need to interact with the anomaly beside the stairs so that you can head up through the door above, then follow the path to the probe room.
Disengage power interlocks (X/7) or switch universes
In this room, you need to deactivate the 7 marked switches to disable the probe. Note that whichever universe you choose to do this in is the one you are staying in, so decide which you want and then stick with it. This has an effect on who you speak to at the end of this mission and has a minor effect on what reward you get, but nothing past that.
Note that also while you are shutting down the interlocks you will constantly be attacked by either security robots or aliens, depending on where you are.
Shut down the probe
Once you’ve disabled all 7 interlocks in your chosen universe, go over and interact with the final switch to shut down the probe.
Take the Artifact
With the probe disabled, you can now go pick up the final artifact.
Speak to Director Patel OR Speak to Rafael
With the probe disabled, you confirmed which universe you are staying in. Make your way back out of the lab (there is a door on the ground level you can go through that’s a shortcut back to the elevator) and speak with either Rafael or Director Patel depending on your choice, who will give you some differing rewards (mostly materials). Rafael will also follow you back to your ship, and is later a recruitable companion at Viewport in New Atlantis.
After this you can leave the Station, completing this mission.
