The Lord of the Tar Lake is an optional BT boss in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Defeating this boss requires interacting with the optional facility “The Fisherman”, being required to max out their connection level, along with awarding the following trophy:
- Showdown at the Tar Lake
– Defeat the Lord of the Tar Lake.
Defeating the Lord of the Tar Lake
To defeat the Lord of the Tar Lake, you must first connect and increase the connection level of The Fisherman. They are first unlocked with Sub Order 116 that is accepted from F5 East Distribution Center, then you can continue increasing their level with lost cargo or sub orders delivered to them.
As you increase the connection level with The Fisherman they will hint about the large BT that lives in the Tar Lake. Once you increase their connection level to around 80% through level 5 it will stop increasing, and they will send you an SSS post that they have a sub order available to pick up.
Return to their facility and accept Sub Order 117, where they will give you two objectives you must complete in order.
The first objective is to go to the Ghost Mech Factory located in the desert to the northeast, where a BT will appear. Make sure you have EX Capture Grenades with you when you go to this location, and it will spawn a BT that looks like a dolphin. Damage the BT until its health is red, then throw a capture grenade at it, then pick up the resulting crystal. If you accidentally kill the BT without capturing it or die during the fight, you will need to abandon the Sub Order and pick it up again from The Fisherman to respawn the BT (it will give a standby warning like Standard Orders do but you can accept it again immediately).
Once you have captured the BT, make sure you stop at a facility to stock up on weapons. There are ones that will be thrown by online player ghosts during the fight, but if you want to make your time easier bring in a number of rocket launchers and machine guns. Once you are ready you can make your way to the center of the marked location and use the BT Delphis to cause the boss to appear.
The Lord of the Tar Lake is a giant flying whale, that will be diving into and back out of the launch along with flying overhead. It will generally attack by shooting tracking projectiles toward you, so to avoid this try to always have a friendly BT summoned to distract the boss. If you have them Gigas and Kheir are the two best overall, as they can deal lots of damage while hitting the boss in the air.
When it gets to red health it is possible to capture this BT using the EX Capture Grenade.
Once you defeat the boss you are awarded the trophy Showdown at the Tar Lake
. Make sure to return to The Fisherman after defeating it to turn in the order and complete their connection level.

Anyone have tips on how to increase the Fisherman’s connection level to the max? Having a tough time finding deliveries to him.
Gage says
You can check in the Search section of the Order menu for orders delivering to them. They’re one of the Optional locations that don’t have a ton of orders going to them unless you complete all orders at other locations.

I just did looked for Lost Cargo between F5 and him and was able to max it up enough to get the quest. Don’t submit all cargo together, do it one by one cause each star won’t let you progress further until you submit the next order.

Where is Kheir BT located?
Jonasdamith says
It’s located between Metagenomicist and Pizza Chef.
But I hope you have found it since you wrote this comment.

‘Recover the BT crystal from the special large BT’
Ive been driving around this area and nothing has been spawning.
Ed says
You need to get caught by a BT in the area and then defeat the dolphin BT that appears
Drift says
I defeated every BT in the area some days ago, and had to sleep eight times in the private room (outdoors doesn’t advance time) to make it spawn.

FYI you can capture any of the large BT’s, including The Lord. In fact this one is one of the most powerful to use against other BT’s. When they turn red just chuck capture grenades in their mouth. This one is missable, along with one on the story and at least one that is part of the Ghost Hunter quest line.
