Dragon’s Dogma 2 Out of the Forest, Into the Forge Walkthrough

Out of the Forest, Into the Forge is a side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Out of the Forest, Into the Forge side mission.

• Requirement: Complete The Ailing Arborheart side quest
• Reward: 13,000 G, Warbler Capelet
• Quest Description: Though reviled by its creators, the elven dish nutriabh is apparently a delicacy among dwarves. And so a path to gwyfencha is opened; may your nose survive the trek.

Objectives:

1. Report back to Doireann
2. Obtain the ingredients for nutriabh
   • Procure some rotten apples
   • Procure some rotten fish
3. Deliver the ingredients to Doireann
4. Deliver the nutriabh to Sara
5. Follow Sara
6. Gather plenty of Scalecinder

Starting Location: Out of the Forest, Into the Forge

This quest is started automatically immediately after the completion of the prior quest The Ailing Arborheart.

Report back to Doireann

Your first objective is to head all the way back to the Sacred Arbor to let Doireann know you know where to obtain gwyfencha, and agree to help her prepare it.

Obtain the ingredients for nutriabh

You’ll need to acquire the ingredients for the dish. If you have these already or have them in your inventory you can just use those, otherwise you can obtain them in the following ways:

Procure some rotten apples

Apples aren’t as easy to find around the Sacred Arbor as Doireann would probably imply. You can sometimes find them dropped from enemies like Goblins who are in the wild around the village quite frequently (if you kill all the enemies on the way here but obtained no apples you can rest at the inn for a couple days to respawn them), or if you are unable to find any nearby they can be purchased in Vernworth.

Procure some rotten fish

You can typically find fish in the shallow parts of the water to the north in the Sacred Arbor. Interact with them to catch one, but don’t wander too far in and get dragged into the brine.

Rest for a week or so to make the items rot in your inventory.

Deliver the ingredients to Doireann

Once you have obtained either the fish and apples, you can wait on the bench in the Arbor until they rot in your inventory, then return to Doireann.

Deliver the nutriabh to Sara

Now with the dish prepared, you can agree to go with Doireann immediately to Battahl. She’ll give you a Ferrystone which you can use to get there more quickly if you’ve set up a Portcrystal in the city. Head back to the smithy to meet up with Sara.

Follow Sara

Sara has just cleaned out the forge, so you’ll need to follow her a short distance out of the city to where they dump the scalecinder.

Gather plenty of Scalecinder

At the cave you’ll have a short time to run around and grab the scalecinder. These appear in green piles on the ground (they aren’t in any of the breakable objects, but you can break everything to clear the way). If you run ahead of Doireann immediately you should have more than enough to time to pick up all 6, as she seems to only trigger leaving the cave when she walks halfway in, which she won’t do if you run ahead.

Once you automatically exit the cave turn in all the scalecinder to complete the quest.
