Nioh 3 contains 39 Myth Locations (Side Quests). Finishing all Myths unlocks the Answering to the People trophy & achievement.
Myths are a type of Side Quest in Nioh 3. All Myths take place in the open world and have a golden “person icon”
on the map. Do not confuse these with a different type called “Side Missions”, which are played from the Battle Scroll at Shrines and don’t count as Myths. Myths take place in the open world, Side Missions don’t.
You have to talk to a quest giver, either a ghost or NPC. The Myths get marked on the map automatically when you find other Collectibles to increase the Exploration Level within a region. The objectives then get marked on the map. However, there are a few exceptions.
Secret Hidden Myths: 2 Myths are not marked on the map at the time of the game’s release (unclear if intentional or a bug) – if you’re missing any Myths it’s likely one of these:
Nothing is missable, all areas are still explorable after the story in free-roam and all missions are replayable through the Battle Scroll at shrines. You can play them in whatever order you find them. They are listed by their main region (era) here.

From Shrine: Path of Koyama (the first shrine in Kamo Village sub-region), slide down the path snowy path, then use the first Spirit Vein on the left to jump up the hill (the spirit for this is an automatic story unlock). Myth 35: Seeking Spirit Stones
Available after completing Side Mission: Beast of the Underworld, which starts in Bakumatsu > Shichijo region > Shrine: Shichijo Abyss – Stratum, by talking to Thomas Glover who stands on the path through this area. You can’t miss him, he automatically talks to you and gives you this side mission. Then complete his side mission by reaching the very end of the region and defeating Kasha in a boss fight, after Shrine: Shichijo Abyss – Armory. After the Kasha boss fight, Thomas Glover appears again to talk to you, then you unlock Myth: Seeking Spirit Stones. This also unlocks the ability to use Cannons in all regions, which is needed to reach some collectibles (such as the Kodama in Shimabara). Also note that during this Myth you will need to travel back to Heian region after trying to cleanse the first barrier.
Myth 36: A Present for Whom?
Automatically starts after Myth: Seeking Spirit Stones.
Myth 37: Doctor’s Pride
Available after completing Side Mission: Kiyomizu Defiled, which starts in Bakumatsu > Kiyomizu region > Shrine: Otowa Stairs. After this shrine you find a woman standing next to the only Spirit Vein that leads further south-east. She will automatically talk to you when you approach. Follow the path behind the Spirit Vein and this side mission will automatically start when you reach the next shrine. Go through the Kiyomizu area until you reach Shrine: Kiyomizu Temple – Main Hall Stage. Next to this shrine use the Spirit Vein to find the Onmoraki boss, beat him, then on your way out talk to the woman again, she’ll stand on the main path out of the area through the gate behind Shrine: Kiyomizu Temple – Grounds (she’s marked with a white dot on the map). After speaking with her, the side mission is done and she gives you this Myth automatically. Should the myth not appear immediately, you may also need to do other Myths throughout Bakumatsu, especially Thomas Glover’s Myths (Seeking Spirit Stones -> A Present for Whom?).
Myth 38: Old Medicine, New Problems
Automatically starts after Myth: Doctor’s Pride. You may need to respawn at a shrine to reset the area and talk to Kasumoto Ine again. Should the myth not appear immediately, you may also need to do other Myths throughout Bakumatsu, especially Thomas Glover’s Myths (Seeking Spirit Stones -> A Present for Whom?). The next objective then takes place in Warring States map. Then the objectives go back to Bakumatsu and then again to Warring States.
Myth 39: Seeking Rare Yokai
Kiyomizu: This is a secret unmarked myth. If you’re missing a myth it’s likely to be this one. You must have finished the unmarked Myth: Yokai Horde Picture Scroll in Heian, which is the painter ghost’s first quest. Then the painter’s ghost will spawn in Bakumatsu > Kiyomizu > on the hill to the east of Shrine: Dilapidated Temple. This is easy to overlook because it doesn’t get marked until you go very close to the ghost, and there are no collectibles in that spot so no reason to ever go there. The remaining objectives will be marked and you automatically earn
Like-Minded Friends for finishing this hidden myth. Also see Seeking Rare Yokai Walkthrough.
For all other Collectibles refer to the Nioh 3 Collectible Guide.
