Introduction
Welcome to the Sword of the Sea Trophy Guide! Sword of the Sea is the newest game from Giant Squid, who previously developed Abzû and The Pathless. Similar to The Pathless, Sword of the Sea focus on fast fluid movement throughout the game world, but in a similar manner to snowboarding games that allow performing tricks around the environment while progressing through the story.
Trophy-wise the game requires finding all collectibles, a 2 hour speedrun, and playing through New Game+. Get all Collectibles first, then do the 2 hour NG+ speedrun. The game can be finished in 1-1.5 hours, so the 2 hour requirement is quite lenient.
Step 1: Finish the Game & Find All Collectibles
Follow the Sword of the Sea Collectible Guide to get everything in a single playthrough. If you miss something don’t worry, you can grab it via Chapter Select after the story or in New Game+, everything carries over.
You can earn the full game high score trophy in your first playthrough by starting the game and earning some score, then copying your save onto a second save slot in the main menu and finishing the game on the second save slot.
Step 2: Untouchable Trophy (Finish Endboss without taking damage)
After the story you will unlock Chapter Select. Replay the final boss for
Untouchable, which requires beating the endboss without taking a single hit. This is the hardest trophy in the game. If you missed any collectible on the first playthrough you can now clean up anything via Chapter Select.
Step 3: New Game+ Speedrun, Beating Your Full Game Highscore
Now that you have all abilities unlocked, you can speed through New Game+ in under 2 hours, while making sure to beat your first playthrough highscore if you did not use the method to earn it on your first playthrough. When beating the game in under 2 hours you get a 2x bonus to your completion highscore, so depending on what you got first playthrough you may need to farm a bit of score in one of the levels, but this doesn’t take very long and you have plenty of time to complete the game in under 2 hours.

Treasure Tracker Open 10 treasure chests. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for opening any 10 treasure chests. These gold chests are found throughout the game and award Tetra when opened, which is required to trade to the vendor. There are more than 10 chests throughout the game, and they respawn in NG+ or level replays in Chapter Select, so you don’t need to go out of your way to find 10 total. You should aim to collect any you see though to collect Tetra to trade for all vendor unlocks. | ||

Tile Finder Find 10 fish tiles. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for finding any 10 fish tiles. Fish tiles are glowing blue tiles that are found throughout the levels. When you land on top of them they stop glowing and award some Tetra, which is required to trade to the vendor. They are generally found on top of tall locations, such as rooftops or on top of statues. There are many more than 10 tiles throughout the game, generally 10 or more in each level, and they respawn in NG+ or level replays with Chapter Select, so you don’t need to go out of your way to find 10 total. You should aim to collect any you see through to collect Tetra to trade for all vendor unlocks. | ||

Long Distance Jumper Travel a huge distance without touching the ground. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for travelling a large distance in one jump without touching the ground. In NG+ once you have the ability to generate boost with tricks this can be done in many locations, but the earliest you can easily earn it on first playthrough is in the Frozen Tundra area where you first encounter the pillars that provide boost wisps when you go near them. Go up the hill to one of the platforms you can jump off of to reach the lower platforms, but instead aim for the ground down the hill after boosting. | ||

Nice Combo! Land a 5x combo trick. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for landing a 5x combo for the first time.
Combo is increased by doing alternating tricks in sequence without touching the ground, which completes your current combo. You can extend your combo by wallriding, grinding, or bouncing on jellyfish. The easiest way to get a large combo is jumping back and forth between jellyfish while doing air tricks in between. Jumping on the same jellyfish won’t increase your combo, but as long as you jump to a different jellyfish each bounce you can effectively extend your combo forever. During your first playthrough your score/combo isn’t displayed during normal gameplay, only inside trick attack areas so you shouldn’t worry about doing this while exploring on your first playthrough outside of the trick attack areas. On your second playthrough you can enable or disable having score/combo shown at all times, which makes these trophies much easier if you don’t earn them during the trick attack completions. |

Trick Attack Seeker Find all trick attack areas. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for finding all trick attack areas. There are 4 trick attack areas throughout the game, in the “exploration” levels Veiled Sea, Lost Grotto, Shadow Tundra, and Sacred River. Finding the area requires going into the trick attack area and interacting with the stone pillar, which causes the hourglass to appear which allows you to start the trick attack timer.

Trick Attack Expert Beat the high score in all trick attack areas. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for beating the high score in each of the 4 trick attack areas. The trick attack areas give you a time limit (40 – 60 seconds) to earn a specified score. The scores in each area are relatively low (8000 for the first area, 10,000 for the other 3) and each of the scores can be beaten by getting to around a 10x combo either by continually wallriding or bouncing on the jellyfish in each area. Beating the score for the first times gives a large amount of Tetra, then if you beat your own high score again you receive a small amount each time.

Wisdom of the Ancients Read all the stele messages. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for reading all 23 stele messages spread throughout the game. Stele are stone pillars that can be found in each level that when activated provide background lore about the game.
When you collect a stele within a level the yellow text on the pillar will disappear to show it has been interacted with, but this is unfortunately reset in NG+ and Chapter Select so on replays of levels you aren’t able to tell which you have already collected unless you remember yourself. » Sword of the Sea All Stele Locations |

Orca Rider Ride an orca. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for riding an orca for the first time. Rideable animals appear in the “exploration” levels after activating certain water points, then will swim in laps around the areas. Jumping on their back allows you to ride them while they move along their set path, then when you jump off you will be awarded the trophy.
Orcas are located in the first level Veiled Sea. They appear when you activate the story-required water point for the left chain that opens the door to exit the area. |
||

Archelon Rider Ride an archelon. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for riding an archelon for the first time. Archelon are the large turtle-like animals located in the second level Lost Grotto after activating the main water point on top of the building that unlocks the door to finish the level. There are similar looking turtles that appear earlier in the level, but those don’t count toward this trophy requirement. | ||

Humpback Rider Ride a humpback whale. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for riding a humpback whale for the first time. Humpback whales are located in the fourth level Frozen Tundra and appear after activating the first progression related water point on top of the large statue’s hand. | ||
![]() |
Sperm Whale Rider Ride a sperm whale. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for riding a sperm whale for the first time. Sperm whales are located in the sixth level Sacred River and appear after activating the first progression related sphere water point in the large circular room which allows you to get to the main outdoor area of the level. | ||

Whale Shark Rider Ride a whale shark. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for riding a whale shark for the first time. Whale sharks are located in the sixth level Sacred River and appear after activating the progression-related sphere water point on top of the ship. | ||

Blue Whale Rider Ride a blue whale. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for riding a blue whale for the first time. Blue whales are located in the sixth level Sacred River and appear after activating the final progression-related sphere water point on top of the tower, which activates the final section of bridge required to exit the level. The blue whales swim around the tops of the towers, so if you fall down you can use the kelp that appears to reach the tops of the towers again to be able to reach the blue whales. | ||
![]() |
Elasmosaur Rider Ride an Elasmosaur. |
|

After the area with the statue you enter the first area where you can pick up boost wisps. Activate the water point in the cave to make the Elasmosaur appear. | ||
![]() |
Water Rider Ride the water rail 4 times consecutively. |
|
| Water rails are an ability available in the sixth level of the game Sacred River. This trophy requires using them 4 times without touching the ground (breaking your combo). The earliest way to do this is by jumping on a jellyfish near the start of the level, triple jumping to trigger the water rail, then immediately jumping off the rail and landing on the jellyfish to bounce in the air again which allows you to trigger another water rail. Repeat until the trophy unlocks. | ||

Veiled Sea Shell Collector Find all the secret shells in the Veiled Sea. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for finding all 10 secret shells located in the first level, Veiled Sea.
Secret shells are a collectible spread throughout the game, typically in well hidden or hard to reach places. Collecting them serves no initial gameplay purpose, but once you collect all 50 you gain the ability to use water rails in any level, not just in Sacred River. They are glowing white shells that are collected by going close to them. In the pause menu you can see how many total secret shells you have collected, but there isn’t a way otherwise to see how many you have obtained in each level outside of knowing you’ve collected them all in a level by earning the specific bronze trophy associated with that level. » Sword of the Sea All Secret Shell Locations |

The desert rain frog is located in the first level, Veiled Sea. After activating the sphere water point that activates the right side chain, use the newly spawned kelp behind the building to reach the top of the waterfall. Follow the cliffs around to the right where there are stone platforms sticking out to the left. Where you can see the set of 4 going farther down you can drop to the lowest level where you can find the frog. |
||

|
| This trophy is awarded for finding the frog skeleton, located in the seventh level Boiling Cavern. When you reach the area with the water ball in front of the large door, go to the right across the boat and up to the one on the tall platform to find the frog skeleton on top on a lantern. | ||

Drop Earn the Drop ability. |

||

Spin Tricks Earn the Spin Tricks ability. |
|
This trophy is awarded for earning the ability to perform spin tricks. This is earned when you trade 500 Tetra to the vendor (550 total). Normal tricks are performed by holding and then hitting one of the face buttons, then spin tricks are performed by hitting a second face button to spin in the direction (left, right, frontflip, backflip). |
||

Super Jump Earn the Super Jump ability. |
|
This trophy is awarded for earning the ability to perform a super jump. This is earned when you trade 2000 Tetra to the vendor (3550 total). Super jump increased the maximum height you can reach with the charged jump by holding down for longer. |
||
![]() |
Loyal Customer Earn the last reward from the mysterious vendor. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for receiving all 5 rewards from the mysterious vendor. Rewards are received from the vendor by giving them Tetra, the gold triangular objects you can collect throughout the game world. The vendor appears in various places as you progress normally along the main path, so you don’t need to purposely go back to prior locations where you found them, unless you’re nearby with the required amount of Tetra.
Receiving all rewards requires a total of 8550 Tetra. Tetra is obtained by collecting it throughout the game world, from treasure chests or tiles, or when beating the high score in trick attack areas. If you are very thorough with collecting Tetra its possible to receive all rewards in first playthrough, but if not your progress to this is carried through in NG+ and Chapter Select where all Tetra sources are available again, so you can continue trading for all rewards in subsequent playthroughs. If you want to grind this on a specific chapter, the best two would either be on Chapter 5 Frozen Drifts, or Chapter 6 Sacred River. Frozen Drifts you can activate all optional water points and break crystals as you progress through the level to spawn and collect Tetra, completing the level in about 10 minutes. In Sacred River activating the main and optional water points spawns large amounts of Tetra around the areas to collect, and is potentially more interesting to play than Chapter 5, but might take a bit longer.

Tricky Do all the aerial spin tricks. |
|
This trophy is awarded for performing all aerial spin tricks. Spin tricks are unlocked when you trade 500 Tetra to the vendor (550 total) and are performed by holding and hitting a face button to perform a trick, then hitting another face button to spin in the direction of the face button (left, right, frontflip, backflip). Perform each of the 4 tricks in each of the 4 directions for a total of 16 different tricks to earn this trophy. You also must land the trick for it to count, if you are to close to the ground and don’t land correctly the trick won’t count as complete.
There isn’t a way to track which tricks you have performed, but if you don’t earn this during normal gameplay you can earn this any time by jumping and cycling through the tricks and directions. |

Untouchable Defeat Tornamun without taking a single hit. |
|
| Sword of the Sea – Untouchable (Video)
The trophy is awarded for beating Tornamun, the final boss without taking any damage during the fight, then it will unlock after the credits. The fight against the final boss encompasses the entire final level of the game, Sky Abyss, and has 3 distinct sections. There aren’t any checkpoints during the fight so unfortunately if you take damage you need to do the final level over again, including watching the cutscenes and then sitting through the credits as the trophy unlocks at the end. It’s not recommended to try going for this on your first playthrough of the level for that reason, as you could end up wasting a bunch of time continually restarting the level when you haven’t seen the whole thing. You should play through it fully for your first playthrough, then try this with chapter select after practising the whole level a couple times. The first section of the level is when you are riding up the tower, and the only way to take damage is when the boss sending two separate waves of rocks down the sides of the tower toward you. The first wave happens after the initial section of arches where there is broken section of tower, and if you wish you can avoid them by dropping into the center of the tower below the platforms. The second wave is immediately after in the section with the boost spots around the whole tower, and you need to avoid the rocks by going between them. Once you reach the second section of the level you are in a half pipe moving away from the boss, and need to continually shoot water balls at the boss by collecting the fish on the sides of the half pipe then pressing After you have hit the boss enough times you will move to the third section of the level, where occurs in a large water tube that you can travel fully around. The boss has 3 different attacks again in this section. The first is the laser again, which you can avoid by just rotating in the tube away from it. The second and third attacks will occur at the same time, where the boss sends waves of fire toward you. Some of the waves only take up sections of the tube, which you can avoid by just moving to a clear spot. The other attack is a ring on the ground that covers the entire section of tube, which you need to avoid by performing a charged jump over it. |

Speed Surfer Complete the adventure in under 2 hours. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for completing the game in under 2 hours. While possible to do in first playthrough, you should leave this trophy until NG+ after you have collected all collectibles and unlocked all abilities, such as the ability to use water rails at any time and generate boost wisps after landing combos. While only focusing on the main story progression related water points in each level it is very easy to complete the game in 60 – 90 minutes, even with some extra time grinding score to reach 1 million points at the end of the playthrough, where you will also get a 2x score bonus for beating the game under 2 hours. | ||
![]() |
Great Score Earn a game-wide high score of 1,000,000 points or higher. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for reaching a game-wide high score of 1,000,000 points. During your first playthrough the game doesn’t normally show your score during gameplay, but you can see your current total score on the top right of the pause menu, where the game tracks the score you earn from all tricks and combos you earn during gameplay.
During your first playthrough you shouldn’t worry about reaching a million points or specifically grinding for score. In NG+ when you go for the 2 hour speedrun you receive a 2x score bonus at the end of the game when you complete it in under 2 hours, which means you only need to reach 500,000 points during gameplay to hit this total at the end of the game. You can spend a few minutes during your playthrough grinding a high combo on groups of jellyfish by continually jumping between them while performing tricks in the air. |
||
![]() |
New High Score Beat your own game-wide high score. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for beating your game-wide high score at the end of a playthrough. This is very easy to do in NG+ while going for the speedrun due to the 2x score bonus you receive for beating the game in under 2 hours. Use the jellyfish method mentioned above to grind a high combo in a location, and you can very easily beat your high score at the end of the playthrough.
It is possible to earn this trophy on your first playthrough when completing the game for the first time. To do this, start the game on one save file and do tricks to earn some score, then either start over or copy your save to a second save slot in the main menu and complete the game on the second save slot. The game counts the score on the first slot as your game-wide score even if you haven’t finished the game, so beating that score when you complete the game for the first time awards this trophy. |
||
![]() |
New Game Plus Completed Complete the adventure in New Game Plus mode and view the credits. |
|
| This trophy is awarded for beating the game a second time in New Game+. This is unlocked after you complete the game for the first time, and is done by selecting the “New Game Plus” option from the main menu or on the specific save slot you have completed the game on. You need to make sure you select this then play through the whole game in a row without using chapter select, as using Chapter Select will reset the progress for the playthrough. | ||

| This trophy is awarded for finding all 50 secret shells throughout the game. You will receive this trophy after earning the secret shell trophy for each of the 7 levels, along with trading a total of 8550 Tetra to the vendor to receive the final reward of a secret shell. Obtaining all secret shells gives the reward of being able to use water rails in any level.

after collecting enough. The boss has three different attacks in this section you need to avoid. The first that it will do the most is a laser that somewhat tracks toward you around the half pipe. To avoid it you need to go up the sides of the half pipe, then jump in the air and move toward the opposite side of the half pipe to get over it. The second attack is a wave of fire that travels toward you along the surface of the half pipe, which is avoided by going up either side and being in the air when it passes. The final attack is a series of rocks that fall toward the surface of the half pipe. When these occur you should stop trying to collect the fish and just stay in the half pipe, moving between the spots marked on the ground where the rocks are falling. The rocks can hit you in the air, so it’s easier to just stay on the ground while they are occurring and avoid them until they stop.

NoHeroes94 says
Thank you, game looks stunning. Can’t wait to start this, just wrapping up Mafia collectibles!
Liontamer says
Not being able to skip the cutscenes especially for the hitless boss run is so freaking annoying.
Absolutely love the game tho but damn man.
Thp00ky says
The trophy for untouchable popped for me after the credits, so if it doesn’t pop right away doesn’t mean you messed up
Thp00ky says
Also, in the second section, I just rode back and forth normally on the half pipe during the beam, you don’t need to jump over it
David Seibert says
Does anyone know how to get past the vendor in chapter 1 via chapter select? The gate is closed and he does not open it.
Oscar says
Yeah I have the same issue. Hopefully it gets patched
David Seibert says
I think buying the next upgrade should do it…
2bNs says
The gate will be open in NG+. Chapter 1 can’t be accessed via chapter select.
David Seibert says
It got fixed by an update.
Thp00ky says
The “New High Score” trophy didn’t unlock for me on my new game plus playthrough. My score was around 800k the first time and 1.2 mil the second time. Anyone else have this issue or know why this wouldn’t have unlocked?
TheRailTracer17 says
Same here. For my first playthrough I had 650k, then I grinded some in Chapter select to reach 1.1 mil but it didn’t pop so I tried NG+ and got 1.2 mil and that didn’t fix anything
Thp00ky says
So, I fixed it, the game I think keeps track of the overall score and messes up if you do anything in chapter select before starting new game plus.
What I did was delete all save files, start a new play-through in file 1, then get some small score (like 100 points) and save a quit.
Then copy the file into save slot 2 and play through to the end, making sure you get a score that higher than what it says at the bottom of the screen at the main menu. The trophy popped for me after the credits.
TheRailTracer17 says
I don’t know if I am the only one here having this issue, but the Tricky trophy is not popping up for me. I tried doing L1 X, Square, Traingle and Circle in all four directions multiple times while consistently jumping on a Jellyfish. I even tried doing them one at a time by doing an air trick, then landing, then doing the other, but still nothing. Does anyone have solutions for this? would help a lot!
Theresa P says
I just kept spamming tricks any and every chance I got, holding L1 all the time made it a bit easier than having to remember to hold it each time. Mine didn’t unlock until just before the shark portion, just keep at it and you’ll get it.
TheRailTracer17 says
I have completed the game and the trophy has still not popped. I even went into Chapter Select and tried every direction for 15 minutes. Nothing.
Panda says
I believe you need to do all of the combinations. Like:
Square -> Triangle, Circle, Square, or X
Triangle -> Triangle, Circle, Square, or X
X -> Triangle, Circle, Square, or X
Circle -> Triangle, Circle, Square, or X
Not just Circle -> Circle, Triangle -> Triangle, etc.
Skyrealmz says
If anyone has problem with Tricky trophy, try to slide the buttons like you are playing fighting games.
For example : L1 + O + X, slide from O to X while pressing L1.
KingSkollz says
Idk if I’m the only one, but seems like the Water Whisperer trophy isn’t unlocking for me. Sacred River Shell Collector, too, as that area had my last shell to collect, and didn’t pop up when I hit the 50.
I have all 50 shells marked on the pause menu, unlocked the Wisp Cloak even!!! But no trophies.
This was literally my last trophy, so it’s kind of annoying that it’s maybe bugged. 🙁 If there’s a solution I would happily hear it.
spirosbvb says
Sacred River Shell Collector bugged out on me too, even though I had collected all 50 like you. Starting the level via chapter select and collecting the first shell unlocked the trophy for me.
MHTaylor says
Any insight into how game wise highscore works?
After my first playthrough, NG+ and speedrun I’m at around 760,000 but whenever I use chapter select to grind out score (I’ve gotten over 1,000,000 in one jelly combo) it doesn’t seem to contribute
Do I need to carry that score through to the credits to bank them?
NoHeroes94 says
Any Astra farming recommendations? Finished the first playthrough and I have over 4,000 left. Given Ng+ will be a speed run I doubt I’ll get enough.
naCrimed says
Hey PowerPyx and the team, first of all thanks for the guide as always. I want to ask do you guys plan to do guide for Hollow Knight: Silksong? I know it won’t be ready for launch since developer won’t be sending any codes but do you guys have anything plan down the line?
PowerPyx says
Probably not. They’ve picked the worst release date possible and on short notice. Too many games releasing close together and not enough time to get to everything.

Yeah, I agree on the release date, late August and early September are packed with new releases. They know there won’t be any competition for them, but it’s terrible for us :D. Anyway, I’m still gonna be back for your Chronos guide, so I hope to see you then. Again, thanks for the guides.

I was playing with jellyfish in the first chapter and got 1m points but the trophy didn’t pop up. Is it supposed to pop up at the end of the game or did it just bugged?

I collected the vendor shell just after finishing the main game via chapter select in the sacred river which popped the loyal customer trophy. I then went through and collected all the secret shells per level, then popping each subsequent level in turn. Ending with the shadow tundra shell collector trophy. I then waited for the water whisperer trophy to pop but it never did. I then noticed it never did, and It said I only have 49 shells.

A very good roadmap over all, but two things.
1) The currency is Tetra. Guide keeps referring to it as Astra but its not called that.
2) In fairness you do warn “if you’re very thorough” you’ll get enough for all upgrades in one run, but even this is an underemphasis. IMO you would need to open literally every single chest and find every single tile in the game (which this guide doesn’t cover), or do loads of time-attack re-runs getting incrementally higher score each time. As such, its likely a lot of players will be significantly short when done with everything else. I was pretty thorough and still needed 2-3K after my NG+ run (where you won’t get much, as you’re rushing through).
A good farming point is Chapter 5. The level only takes ~10 minutes and you can sneak 1K per run. You’re riding the dolphin, which is much quicker than the protagonist, and there are a ton of optional lantern-based water points (75 tetra each) and crystals (5 tetra each). I would get 900-1000 per run and this farm got me what I needed in 30 mins. IMO its not worth trying to legitimately re-play the game a 3rd time to get tetra unless you absolutely love it.

Untouchable Trophy seems bugged since the last patch. It won’t pop through chapter select.
