The Unknown Resonant is the 5th main mission in the Defeating Resonants questline in Control Resonant. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Unknown Resonant main quest.
- Main Story: Defeating Resonants
- Starting Location: The Unknown Zone > Field Office
- Requirement: Reached The Unknown Zone as part of Main Quest: Sever the Hedron Links, and do Side Quest: Pope’s Research to spawn Gravity Wells that let you travel through the zone to reach the quest location
- Reward: 1 x Ability: Command, Artifact: Untapped 1996 Commemorative Coin, 1 x Reset Item, 4000 x Source
- Quest Description: Arish has been suspended from duty after the CFD disaster. He isn’t taking it well. Now he’s turned up in the Patterned city above the Oldest House, and his team is worried he’s in trouble. He might’ve run into a Resonant. They’re gonna need backup.

Starting Location: The Unknown Resonant Quest
You reach “The Unknown” zone automatically as part of Main Quest: Sever the Hedron Links. However, to make any progress in this zone you will first need to do Side Quest: Pope’s Research. It involves finding research balloons around the zone, cut them down to drop a crate with antennas inside. Then place the antennas in red circles near the ballon (in correct order). This will spawn a “Gravity Well” on each island of The Unknown. The Gravity Wells let you travel from one island to the next to fully explore the region.
For the Resonant you must reach the big island in the north called “Field Office” – you will automatically get the Resonant quest from a radio call along the way. The gravity wells you need are shown on the map below.
Get to the Rangers / Answer the Distress Call in the Unknown
Once you’ve reached the Field Office island, you’ll enter a room with 4 trapped rangers and must defeat the enemies.
Advance with the Rangers
After clearing out the enemies, the rangers will talk to you and open the next door for you, follow them.
Disrupt the Pattern
You will reach a locked door with 4 moving sheds in front of them, but one shed is always out of sync. You may have seen “Pattern Break” world events that function similary, but if not this can be confusing.
What you must do is to hit the shed that’s out of sync. Repeat this 4 times in a row, always hitting the shed that’s out of sync from the other 3 (it will flow in a different position and has a slight glow on it). Then the door opens.
Open the Gate with the Rangers
After fighting some more enemies you reach a locked gate with an electricity cube in front of it. You must carry electricity to it to open the door.
Follow the path left of the door to find the electricity. You can’t carry it all the way back to the door in one go, there is a second power cube in between where you must insert the electricity.
From the second power cube you will have enough time to carry it back to the door from earlier. But time is extremely tight here and it may take many tries. This part can be confusing, refer to the video above (at 2:47) if you struggle here.
Look for a Way Around the Gate
After opening the door, defeat some more enemies, then in the next building keep going up around the stairs until you exit to a street.
On the right side of the street pull yourself up to the rooftops.
Keep heading right and jump over to the next roofs, then jump forward to the road between the skyscarpers.
Take the left road and jump down to the plaza.
Survive the Ambush
Clear out the enemies, then enter the Field Office and use the elevator. The rangers will arrive here too and join you in the elevator. After the elevator ride, go through the portal with the rangers to reach the boss.
Kill the Resonant
Defeat the boss and then use the button prompt to finish it off. Afterward you unlock the “Command” ability that lets you turn enemies into friendlies by holding 
once you’ve reached enough charges (will be displayed by a purple icon in bottom right corner).
This finishes The Unknown Resonant in Control Resonant.
