MISSABLE WARNING: Several Side Tales become missable if you progress the story too far. Finish up each region before moving on to the next and talk to all NPCs you meet. They are marked red as “MISSABLE” throughout the guide. It’s recommended to keep a manual save from the start and end of each region (there are 20 manual save slots), so if you missed something you can reload the save and replay from there.
Most collectibles do not have specific associated trophies/achievements, but finding them is still helpful. Especially Sha-Chi Amber, Blackstone, and Memory Flowers function as upgrades to your health and abilities.
The game consists of 8 regions, with progression largely happening in a linear order through each region. Certain side tales or hidden areas require backtracking to prior regions after you progress and gain new abilities that allow you to interact with the environment. The game is structured somewhat like a souls-like, with Bells throughout each region that you rest at and can fast travel to. Enemies do not respawn though, so once you defeat enemies in an area they are permanently defeated until you start a new playthrough.
Certain side tales are missable based on progression through the game. You generally want to try and complete side tales as soon as possible within the area you are in, instead of leaving them and progressing forward to new regions as certain ones are failed because of this.
Weapons & Phantom Edges are found throughout the game, almost always obtained after defeating bosses. Tempering Materials are able to be used on them after reaching a specific point in Pangzhen, and provide a permanent upgrade for them after you find and use the Tempering Material. These are typically hidden in the environment or obtained as side tale rewards.
Sha-Chi Amber Shards and Blackstone Shards are typically found in chests or when defeating certain enemies. When you obtain 4 of each they combine into a whole Amber or Blackstone, which increases your Sha-Chi (ability bar) or Damage by 10%.
Memory Flowers are types of collectibles that appear as blue flowers in the environment. They appears as fragments, between 2 and 6 in each group, and when you obtain the whole group you obtain the completed Flower, which increases your health by a certain % dependent on how many individual fragments were in that flower.
