Control Resonant Pope's Research Locations & Walkthrough

Pope’s Research is a side quest in Control Resonant. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Pope’s Research side mission and where to find all Pope’s Research Balloons and Probe Relays.

Starting Location: The Unknown Zone

Quest Description: Pope wants to gather more data on the Patterning. She’s asked me to help her with some research in the Unknown Zone.

Starting Location: Pope’s Research

This side quest will get added to your quest log automatically upon completing Main Quest: The Hedron Link.

Doing Pope’s Research is mandatory to advance through “The Unknown Zone” and to complete the next Main Quest: Sever the Hedron Links.

Set Up Probe Relays in the Unknown

This quest can be confusing as it doesn’t have any marked objectives. Here’s the gist of what you must do:

On each “island” of “The Unknown” zone you will spot one weather balloon in the air.
Jump onto the balloon and press L1/LB to cut it down.
This will drop a crate, attack it to break it open and reveal the probe relays (antennas).
Pick up the probe relays and place them in the red circles near the balloon. Their correct location will be displayed on the minimap by a “signal icon” (top right corner of map). They will also beep when you get near their correct spot.
You must place the probe relays in the correct order, meaning in the red circle where the antennas beeps. The light on the antenna must turn green when placed in the circle.
After placing all probe relays, a “Gravity Well” will appear in the sky, it looks like a flying jumping pad and will be marked on the map. Jump to it and then walk off it to be carried to the next island of The Unknown zone. You have to repeat this process on each island to travel to the next island.
After solving the first Pope Research, you will reach the central island (via the Gravity Well) and can unfog the map there. Then the other Pope Research Balloons get marked on the map, and you also see arrows on the map that show how the islands connect to each other.

There are 8 Pope’s Research Balloons total. Most of them have 2 Probe Relays but one has 3 and another has 4.

Remember: After picking up a probe, its correct location will appear on the minimap and it will beep when you approach the right spot.

Investigate Point 0

After finishing all 8 of Pope’s Research locations, a yellow objective marker will appear in the middle of the central island. You must go to the southern island (with the “Evac Building” text on the map) and use the Gravity Well to fly through the sphere in the center, then quickly press L3 (Left Stick) to latch onto the sphere while you fly through it.
