Elden Ring Nightreign All Shifting Earth Locations Guide

May 30, 2025 by PowerPyx 3 Comments

Elden Ring Nightreign has a game feature called Shifting Earth events. These modify the default map layout. There are 4 Shifting Earths total: Mountaintop, Crater, Rotted Woods, Shrouded City.

You need to finish each location for the Shifting Earth trophy/achievement.

How to Unlock Shifting Earth Events?

After successfully finishing your first Expedition, you unlock the first Shifting Earth event. The first one you get will always be the Crater (Volcano).

How to Change active Shifting Earth Event?

After clearing the first Expedition, it randomly cycles through the other Shifting Earth Events. Every few matches it will give a popup when you return to the Roundtable Hold that informs you of the currently active Shifting Earth (this is different for every player). If you get a Shifting Earth you already completed, you can sleep in the bed in Roundtable Hold (open Map > Waiting Room). Then after you play another 3-4 Expeditions you will get a new Shifting Earth Event.

If any player in the match has a Shifting Earth event active, there’s a chance for that Shifting Earth event to appear as soon as the match starts. If all players sleep in the bed to deactivate the event, then no Shifting Earth will trigger. If everyone has a different event active, it will randomly pick one (e.g. if one player has Shrouded City and one has Crater, it will trigger one of the two).

Additionally, all Expeditions (except the first one) have a small chance to spawn a map layout with one of the four shifting earths active, even if no player has a Shifting Earth activated. The game isn’t truly procedurally generated, instead it uses a pool of 20-30 preset map layouts (different camps in different locations) which are unique to each Expedition. You can use this to your advantage by restarting the same Expedition over and over again until you get a map layout with a Shifting Earth active, however they are rarer than regular maps. Some of the Remembrance chapters (Character Stories) also force a specific shifting earth.

All 4 Shifting Earth Events Explained

Shifting Earth 1: Crater

Crater spawns a magma-filled volcano in the north of the map. You must drop down and defeat 2 bosses along the way, then open the chest in the area with the second boss. This will let you upgrade a weapon to legendary.

Shifting Earth 2: Mountaintop

Mountaintop spawns a frozen mountain in the north-west of the map. You must reach the top of the mountain, walk over the big hanging chains between the mountains to reach the top. Interact with the chest on the mountaintop. You can run past all enemies, no need to fight bosses. This will increase resistance to frost damage and makes you deal more damage to dragons.

Shifting Earth 3: Rotted Woods

Rotted Woods will spawn a purple wood in the south-east of the map that applies rot effect (gradually damages health while in the area). After rot has built up, simply continue healing yourself and rush past the enemies. You must go to the fort that will be marked with a red flag icon, there you must pick up a treasure map on the roof from the little side tower.

This adds another red flag icon that points to a tree. Climb the tree and drop down to the flower on the side of the tree, interact with it. This will grant immunity to Scarlet rot.

Shifting Earth 4: Noklateo, the Shrouded City

Shrouded City will spawn a city in the south-west of the map. You must reach the end of the city and defeat a boss. At the end of the city is a big room with the boss inside. Then interact with the chest in the boss arena. This will give an autorevive.

After completing all 4 World Shift events you unlock the Shifting Earth trophy/achievement.

Did you do them all on the same save file? If you restored your save via PS+ backup you may have reset your progress on one of these, then need to do it again.

Did you figure it out? I have the same issue and I’m pretty damn sure this is all on the same save.
