Introduction

Welcome to the Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (PS5 Master Collection Volume 2) Trophy Guide! This is a PS5 version released in August 2026 as part of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2. The trophy list is almost identical to the PS3 HD port, but with all of the online trophies removed and several new additions instead. This cuts down the platinum time compared to the PS3 version by around 20 hours. Every trophy including the platinum is fully obtainable in offline solo play, and the guide is written on the basis of playing every mission solo. As for the game itself, it is a straight port of the PS3 version, it is identical in every way other than running at a higher resolution and HDR. All game content is identical with the exception of some costumes if you have save data from Master Collection Volume 1, but this isn’t required for any trophies.

Step 1: Finish Main Ops Story, also do Extra Ops & Outer Ops as you play

Just play through the main ops missions, focusing on extracting enemy soldiers and continuously developing better equipment as you play, which is a core part of the game. Feel free to play through whatever extra ops as you unlock them. Definitely make sure to complete Outer Ops as well to save time later. Don’t worry about S-ranks here, a lot of them aren’t possible without powerful end-game gear, especially the vehicle battles.

Step 2: Upgrade Mother Base Staff to unlock the Best Equipment needed for S-Ranks

After completing chapter 5 of the story, there are no longer any Extra Ops locked behind story progress. Now you need to focus on completing Extra Ops which progressively unlock as you finish each mission. Keep playing until you unlock the missions with the highest ranking staff available, this is vital to creating the most powerful gear in the game to make S-ranks significantly easier. It will require some time investment. See trophyBig Boss.

Step 3: S-Ranks & Trophy Clean-Up

Once you have your respective mother base staff levels high enough to make the best gear in the game, you can now play through any Main Ops and Extra Ops where you’re missing S-ranks, as well as any other trophies you are missing up until this point. This is the most tedious part of the game, due to the sheer number of vehicle battles. See trophyBig Boss.

I feel… safe.
Wearing a cardboard box gives you that feeling of inner peace.
To unlock this trophy you need to equip a box from your inventory. You can find the Love Box in the very first Main Ops: Opening/Investigate the Supply Facility. It is in Puerto Del Alba (final mission area), on the left of the area as you come in, next to some crates against the wall, equip it to unlock the trophy.
You’re pretty good.
Shot enemy with a sleep-inducing weapon right in the middle of their behind.
For this trophy you need to shoot an enemy soldier in the middle of their rear-end with a tranquiliser weapon. The target is around the crease of their pants, but a bit lower than you would expect, it can be tricky to hit intentionally as the hitbox is inconsistent. It’s highly likely you will unlock this through natural play however. Once you are successful they will grab their behind and be instantly knocked out, unlocking the trophy.
Indirect Attack
Attacked enemy soldiers by blowing up an oil drum or truck (single player only).
The earliest and easiest opportunity for this is during Main Ops 3: Pursue Amanda. Immediately at the start of the mission, some soldiers will enter the area and one of them will stand at an oil drum directly in front of you. Shoot the drum to kill him and unlock the trophy. If you don’t get it here or elsewhere, Extra Ops 056 requires you to kill enemies by shooting an oil drum.
CQC Six Shot
Performed CQC six times in a row.
For this trophy you must successfully get a CQC combo of 6 in a row, this means you need to find 6 guards all right next to each other. An almost guaranteed way to get this is right at the start of Main Ops 19: Infiltrate the Underground Base. At the start, go forward and turn right, you will see 6 guards in total with a commander giving instructions to them, roll over the railing to ground level, throw a smoke grenade at them, then run up and CQC slam them consecutively with :r2: . It may take a few tries as the positioning of the guards can vary a bit and it may not let you continue the combo, just restart the mission and try again if so.
Remember some of the basics of CQC.
Knock out 50 enemies with CQC
Enemies can be knocked out by running up to them and pressing :r2: to slam them to the ground, or by grabbing them with :r2: when standing still and moving the left analogue stick to throw them to the ground. Some enemies you need to slam multiple times to knock them out. You may get this naturally if you actively use CQC, if not you can replay short missions and just CQC slam every guard you see. You cannot restart checkpoint though, must finish the mission for them to count.
You have far too many Game Overs.
Reached 50 or more game overs.
Depending on your playstyle and previous knowledge of the game, you may or may not get this while playing naturally. If you still need some game overs before finishing everything else, you can replay any of the Perfect Stealth Extra Ops missions and just get immediately spotted for a quick game over, such as Extra Ops 049.
Don’t you have anything else to do?
Rolled 100 times or more in a single mission.
Rolling is done by pressing :x: while running. Do this 100 times in any single mission for the trophy.
Kuwabara, Kuwabara.
Heard a ghost on the radio.
For this trophy you need to play any of Dead Man’s Treasure Extra Ops 060-062 that feature ghosts. Get near to a ghost and keep pressing the Touchpad :tp: to make radio calls, eventually you should hear a ghost over the radio. Even though Extra Ops 059 has a ghost, I couldn’t get a ghost message to trigger there.

You need to do this to get the Neo-Moss costume on Extra Ops 062 regardless, required for :bronze: Costume Collector.

I’m dead serious.
Threw chaff grenade at ZEKE, leading Paz to ask, “What are you trying to do?” (single player only)
This is obtained in Mains Ops: ZEKE Battle, but you first need to equip ZEKE with the Radome. This is acquired from the Chrysalis AI weapon boss as a random drop after defeating it. You can replay Main Ops: Chrysalis Battle to farm for it. Make sure this is equipped before battling ZEKE. Throw a chaff grenade at ZEKE and Paz will be confused and say “What are you trying to do?”, unlocking the trophy.
Gives me infinite ammo.
Acquired Infinity Bandana. Never worry about running out of bullets ever again.
To unlock the designs for the Infinity Bandana, you need to S-rank Extra Ops 119: Peace Walker Custom. To S-rank this fight you need some powerful rocket launchers, at the very least the Carl Gustav Rank 5, RPG7 Rank 4, and preferably the M47 as well, by far the most powerful launcher in the game. To unlock the designs for it you need to S-rank Extra Ops 111. It takes a very long time to research it however, increasing by only 3% per mission completion, it also requires a hefty 98 in R&D level.

The Bandana itself requires level 88 in R&D and Combat Unit. High level R&D staff can be farmed by extracting the POWs in Extra Ops 049, these staff are almost always A rank in R&D. For high level combat staff, these are mostly found in higher difficulty vehicle battle missions with 5 skulls, completing these by capturing many of the soldiers will get you plenty of higher level combat staff. See :gold: Big Boss for more detailed information on finding high level staff.

Stealth camouflage.
Acquired stealth camouflage. Never worry about being detected ever again.
To acquire the stealth camouflage, you first need to get the designs by S-ranking Extra Ops 050. It also requires both your R&D and Intel teams at level 88, and a staff member on your R&D team with the Metamaterials skill. You can find staff with this skill in Extra Ops 049, specifically the 3 POWs that you can extract. The staff you get are almost always at least A rank in R&D and sometimes in Intel, making this an optimal farming spot.

An even better farming spot for Intel staff specifically, is Main Ops: Destroy the Barricade. In the Camino de Lava: Junction area, there are 2 snipers on ledges shooting at a target dummy. You need to use either the Fulton Mines or Carl Gustav Fulton launcher to extract them, both are guaranteed S rank in Intel. See :gold: Big Boss for more detailed information on finding high level staff.

Kotodama
Use a CO-OPS Comms battle cry
After completing a few missions you should have unlocked a Kotodama battle cry. These are comms messages in missions designed for co-op play. You will receive a message on the completion screen saying ‘The following words can now be infused with the heroic spirit: Here”, indicating you have unlocked a battle cry. “Here” will be the first one you unlock.

On the mission prep screen go to Co-Ops Comm > Edit > Select any of the currently equipped comms, and change it to a battle cry, these are indicated by the line of text detailing its effect underneath. After equipping it, press :triangle: to activate it, unlocking the trophy.

Divine Wind
Collected a soldier using a divine wind.
For this trophy you need the Tanegashima Musket. This is obtained by acquiring the Rathalos Wing and having R&D at level 89 and someone in your team with the Japanese Patriot skill, the female POW in Extra Ops 049 frequently has this skill. To get the wing, you need to play Extra Ops 121 or 122 and fight the Rathalos, the odds of it dropping the wing is slightly higher on 122. See :bronze: Monster Hunter for details how to unlock these missions.

The main aim is to destroy both of its wings, tail, and head as well if you can. You can tell when you break the parts as pieces of them will break off of it. Playing extra ops 122 and destroying all of these parts increases the drop rate of the wing from 3% to around 35%, but it may still take multiple tries. It’s good to use the M134 gatling gun with the bandana to make short work of destroying its parts if you have it, or a launcher as long as you aim carefully, then taking it down non-lethally with the Mk.22, Mosin Nagant, or using the bandana with level 5 stun grenades to keep it in place, and then throwing sleep grenades at it over and over.

Once you have developed the musket, you need to keep shooting soldiers with it until it randomly triggers a tornado effect, unlocking the trophy.

OUTER OPS Sortie
Carried out a mission in OUTER OPS.
Outer Ops missions are unlocked after completing Main Ops: Chrysalis Battle. Outer Ops are missions where you dispatch soldiers and captured vehicles from your combat unit to face off against other enemy units. Assemble your team and send them out on a mission, after completing any main or extra ops and returning to the mother base, you can go into Outer Ops to see the result. You can watch the simulated battle or skip it to save time. Completing your first Outer Ops will earn you this trophy.

Make sure to keep doing these missions as you play the game, they get progressively harder and you will need to start sending higher level combat staff and vehicles captured from missions, and eventually ZEKE to make your team stronger.

Elite Forces
Cleared, Capture the Enemy Base 06, in OUTER OPS using only soldiers.
This is the final and hardest Outer Ops in the game. Before attempting this you need to have finished all previous Outer Ops missions, which requires high level combat staff, vehicles, and preferably a fully developed ZEKE after chapter 4, which makes missions significantly easier.

When you unlock this mission, you can only send soldiers, at this point you should have some higher level combat unit soldiers you can use with 9999 HP and psyche. The key to making this much easier is having better weapons developed that your soldiers can use, mainly the Kampfpistole (and M47, but this takes much longer to get), the design for this is a random reward for completing Outer Ops missions 37-48. It requires an R&D of 50 to develop, with this your soldiers will have no problem beating this mission.

Mech Catcher
Captured a mech.
You’ll get this naturally as every vehicle battle S rank requires you to capture the mech (vehicle). It’s very easy to get this in the first vehicle battle, Main Ops: Lav-Type G Battle, there are only 8 backup soldiers in this fight, you need to deal with all of them first. You can put them to sleep with the Mk.22 and safely fulton them out while the vehicle is patrolling the area. The captain will then emerge as long as you didn’t trigger an alert. If you did trigger an alert you have to damage the vehicle enough to make the captain appear, once he does, take him out to capture the vehicle.
Basilisk Eater
Defeated Pupa, Chrysalis, Cocoon, Peace Walker.
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. This will unlock after completing Main Ops: Peace Walker Battle 2.
Steel Eater
Defeated all AI weapons.
This trophy requires you to defeat every AI weapon, this includes all of the type 2 and custom versions of Pupa, Chrysalis, Cocoon, Peace Walker, and ZEKE, these are all fought in Extra Ops 112-120.

The type 2 and custom versions of these fights are stronger, more aggressive variants, as long as you have been developing better launchers as you played the game you shouldn’t find these too difficult to defeat. If not you can come back to them when you have unlocked the best launchers such as the M47 to beat them with relative ease.

Launched ZEKE
Complete Metal Gear ZEKE.
In order to launch ZEKE, you need the 4 main body and 4 optional parts. You must also have completed chapter 4 of the main story, Main Ops: Peace Walker Battle 3.

All main parts are obtained as scrap from defeating any of the AI weapons, they need 5 parts each. If you need more parts just fight the Pupa for a quick completion, the optional parts require a bit more grinding, as they are mostly random drops.

Optional Parts:

  • Jetpack – Dropped by the Pupa, avoid damaging its boosters much for a chance to obtain the jetpack.
  • Radome – Dropped by the Chrysalis, avoid damaging the large, circular dome much for a chance to obtain the radome.
  • Railgun – Dropped by the Chrysalis, avoiding damaging its railgun much for a chance to obtain it.
  • Armour – Dropped by the Cocoon, try voiding damaging anywhere on its body at all for a chance to obtain the armour.

Once you get all parts, install them on Zeke in the mother base to unlock the trophy. If you got all these parts and equipped them prior to completing chapter 4, the trophy won’t unlock, simply remove and re-equip any part once you reach chapter 5 to trigger it in that case.

Completed ZEKE
Customized ZEKE’s head parts and foot parts with special AI weapon parts.
To complete ZEKE, you need to equip it with special parts dropped from the custom versions of all 4 AI weapons, Extra Ops 112-120. When defeating one it has a chance to drop its head after the battle. For the foot parts, Peace Walker’s legs, these drop from Peace Walker Type 2 or Custom, make sure to not damage the respective parts too much during the fight. Once you have both parts, equip them on Zeke in mother base for the trophy.

If you need to farm the AI weapons for these, use your most powerful launchers such as the M47 if you have it, it will make quick work of them.

Huey’s Thoughts
Read Huey’s love letter.
Once Huey joins mother base, after Main Ops: Pupa Battle, go in to Mother Base > R&D > Other > Letter, read this letter to unlock the trophy.
Strangelove’s Thoughts
Read all of Strangelove’s memoirs.
After completing chapter 4, you can find Strangeloves’s memoirs, they are located in the AI pods of any of the first tier of AI weapon battles. There are 3 in total to collect. When you beat an AI weapon and enter the pod, while moving around in the pod to collect memory boards you will get a “!” prompt between the columns, quickly press :triangle: to obtain one of Strangelove’s memoir tapes, collect all 3 and listen to them in Mission Select > :triangle: > Character Files > Strangelove > Strangelove’s Memories.
Paz’s Thoughts
Read all of Paz’s diary.
Paz’s diary tapes are available after completing chapter 5. They are found in the same way as Strangelove’s tapes, but only in the type 2 and custom versions of the AI weapon battles. Enter the AI pod, as you’re moving around collecting memory boards, press :triangle: when you get the “!” prompt to collect the tape. There are 10 in total, you can listen to them in Mission Select > :triangle: > Character Files > Paz > Paz’s Diary.
Paz Mania
Obtained Rank S on a date with Paz.
This is Extra Ops 067, it is unlocked after clearing chapter 4. Prior to starting the mission, in the mission prep screen change Snake in to the Tuxedo costume, equip the Love Box, and change your co-op comms to positive phrases. You need to reach 200 affinity to get an S-rank.

Once you start the mission, you need to stand near Paz and use positive co-op comms phrases. You will see a heart appear above her head, wait a few seconds for her to return to normal and use another phrase, you can use each one twice to increase her affinity by 10 each time. You can also raise her affinity by taking photos of her with the Camera, and playing the song ‘Koi No Yokushi Ryoku’ with the Walkman. Once you have raised her affinity to max she will do a jumping animation if you use another positive phrase, equip the Love Box near her and wait for her to join you to end the mission, if you reached 200 affinity you will get the S-rank.

List of example positive phrases:

Good luck!
Good work
Good to have you
Impressive
I like it!
Nice one!
Peace!
Good!
Don’t die on me!
I knew you had it in you!
Kept you waiting, huh?
Sorry…I just…
Thanks
You can do this
You’re pretty good

Kaz Mania
Obtained Rank S on a date with Kaz.
This is Extra Ops 068, it is unlocked after defeating all of the custom AI weapons. Unlike the date with Paz, Kaz only requires 100 affinity. You can use some of the same positive phrases as with Paz, but not all of the same ones work. Those that do work, you can use twice. You can also CQC slam him to the ground, drop certain food items for him, but since he only requires 100 affinity you don’t need to use all of these. Once you raise his affinity enough, equip the Love Box near him to end the mission.
Headshot Hero
Take down 50 enemies with a headshot.
Self explanatory, either knock out or kill 50 different enemies with headshots. You should easily get this early on if you are regularly knocking out enemies with the Mk.22 using headshots.

You have to finish the current mission for any headshots to count, you can track how many you have performed in Mother Base > Database > Player Data > Profile > Mission Stats.

Hold-Up Artist
Reached 100 hold-ups.
You can hold enemies up by approaching them quietly from behind and aiming at them when close up with :l2: , or you can CQC slam them with :r2: , then aim at them while they are on the ground, Snake/your character will say ‘Freeze!’, the enemy will be startled and will surrender by laying down on the ground. You are required to do this in a handful of Extra Ops, and you will be doing this a lot if using my strategy to S-rank helicopter battles. This is significantly easier to pull off with the Sneaking Suit, awarded by completing Main Ops: Attack Chopper Battle: Mi-24A.

You have to finish the current mission for any hold-ups to count, you can track how many you have performed in Mother Base > Database > Player Data > Profile > Mission Stats.

Stun Specialist
Reached at least 100 stun attacks or sleep-inducing attacks.
Self-explanatory, either knock-out enemies with CQC slams or any sleep weapon such as the Mk.22. It shouldn’t take long to unlock if this you’re playing non-lethally, which you should be doing regardless.
Lethal Enforcer
Reached 100 kills.
You may not get this naturally if playing the game non-lethally, since killing prevents S-ranks. If you don’t get this naturally you can play missions with lots of enemies for quick kills, such as higher difficulty vehicle battles or Extra Ops 038, where you have to defend bases against many enemies.
Fulton Recovery Veteran
Reached 300 Fulton recoveries.
This trophy requires 300 total Fulton recoveries, the core mechanic of the game is to fulton soldiers in missions to improve your mother base, this will come naturally.

You have to finish the current mission for any fulton recoveries to count, you can track how many you have performed in Mother Base > Database > Player Data > Profile > Mission Stats.

Metal Stealer
Capture all vehicles.
This is a new trophy to the PS5 version of the game, you need to capture and hold one of every vehicle at the same time. If you lose any on Outer Ops missions, you must capture another one.

You may or may not get this naturally as capturing vehicles is required to get an S rank anyway, but if you are regularly dispatching vehicles on Outer Ops, you run the risk of them getting destroyed. You need every single vehicle in the game at the same time, including all of the custom versions. They are all available in Extra Ops, you can check which ones you currently have in Mother Base > R&D > Mechs.

For this trophy you need to unlock every costume in the game. There are more costumes in the PS5 version, including ones labelled as ‘UT’ which you start with. The versus ones seem to have been removed, disregard any costumes that you start with. If you accidentally dismissed any of the 4 staff members, you can recruit them again by finding them in the respective mission they are in. Here are the 4 staff members and where to find them:

  1. Hideo – Main Ops: Infiltrate the Crater Base – At the end of the mission with the row of trucks, Hideo is hiding in truck with plate number 63824.
  2. Actress – Main Ops: Travel to the Mine Base – Climb up the first ladder on your left right at the start of the mission, hang off of the building to your left, shimmy all the way across to the other side and extract the prisoner here.

Leap of Faith
Performed a Leap of Faith.
This trophy is unlocked in Main Ops: Travel to the Mine Base. Proceed forward down the path and you will find a hay box, go left and around and climb up to the top of the building above the hay box. Miller will radio you to say that you can press :triangle: to do a leap of faith into the box, just like in the Assassin’s Creed series, do this for the trophy.
That looks tasty!
Nicely cooked a ration.
This can be obtained in most of the hunting quests. In Extra Ops 121-126 there is a cooking spit on a ledge on the left side of the area, climb up here, equip a ration and you can press :triangle: to cook it over the fire, as soon as it turns brown press :triangle: again to unlock the trophy.
Monster Hunter
Cleared all hunting quests.
This requires completing Extra Ops 121-128. To unlock the hunting quests you must have first finished chapter 4. Go into Mission Briefing and listen to all of Chico’s tapes, once you have done this go to Extra Ops 029. After destroying the target and collecting all of the items, ignore the goal and instead head south to Playa del Alba. Go to the end of the dock where you will see a cat in a boat, after approaching it you will get a cutscene, after which you will unlock Extra Ops 121, starting the chain of monster hunting missions. Clearing each hunting quest will unlock the next one, once you have completed all 8 you will unlock the trophy.

Big Boss
Cleared all MAIN OPS and EXTRA OPS missions at Rank S.
This is the most difficult and time-consuming trophy in the game, for the most part S-ranking a mission boils down to these requirements:

  • Speed – Try to complete missions as fast as possible, avoiding knocking out and extracting every soldier you come across for example.
  • No Kills – Goes without saying that killing in this game will result in a much lower rank, play non-lethally.
  • No Alerts – In most missions you want to avoid alerts, some missions are combat based or have other mechanics where alerts aren’t a factor.

To make things significantly easier, you should come back for S ranks once you have much better equipment, as it will trivialize most of them. For example, going back to earlier missions such as AI weapon battles with more powerful launchers, you will be able to defeat them in a few minutes. The tips and strategies here based on solo/offline play.

The difficulty with S-ranking comes from vehicle boss battles, the armoured vehicles, tanks and helicopters. There are a lot of battles to S-rank, and without the right equipment they are basically impossible to S-rank. Before going into more detail you need to get your R&D, Medical and Intel teams to a very high level in order to develop the required equipment for the strategies to S-rank these missions. First, you should aim to get to 88 in Combat Unit, 98-99 in R&D, 93 in Medical and 89 in Intel. This allows you make all of the best equipment in the game for my strategies. It may take you a few hours of grinding, but it will make these missions so much easier.

Where to find high level staff:

  • Combat Unit – Almost all high level combat staff are located within higher difficulty vehicle missions with 5 skulls. If you want you can forget about the S-rank and focus on extracting a bunch of the backup soldiers and just finishing the mission to get some high level staff. You will also eventually start getting combat staff that have better stats and higher health than Snake, make sure to keep checking them and switch to playing as one over Snake. You also need level 88 in your combat unit to develop the Bandana later.
  • R&D – Extra Ops 049 is by far the best location for R&D staff, there are 3 POWs here that are almost always at least A rank in R&D, this mission can be farmed very quickly. The first one is on a walkway above you in the starting area, the 2nd and 3rd you’ll run into on your way through the mission. To unlock Extra Ops 049 you need to have completed Extra Ops 045, 046, 102, 047, 048, and 091.
  • Mess Hall – This isn’t as important as other staff teams, you only need level 51 to make the Future Curry, the best healing item in the game. You shouldn’t need to farm for any higher level staff here. Otherwise Extra Ops 046 has some fairly high level Mess Hall staff.
  • Medical – Extra Ops 50 is the best place to find high level Medical staff. In the El Cenagal: Ravine area there is a soldier patrolling across a biridge that is always a guaranteed S-rank in medical. To unlock Extra Ops 50 you need to complete Extra Ops 49 mentioned above.
  • Intel – By far the best mission for Intel staff is Main Ops: Destroy the Barricade. In the Camino de Lava: Junction area there are 2 snipers perched on ledges shooting at a target dummy, you need to use either the Fulton Mines or Carl Gustav Fulton launcher to extract them, they are both guaranteed S rank in Intel.

Most non-vehicle boss missions are easy to S-rank, you can just rush straight for the goal with your upgraded equipment and character for the most part, the difficulty comes from the many vehicle battles in the game, but even they can be made easy with the right equipment and preparation. With this and mostly just pure speed with no alerts, you will get the S ranks with ease. Missions are short and don’t take very long to retry. For all of the AI weapon battles, just having the most powerful launchers makes quick work of them.

Below is a list of recommended equipment for S-ranking non-vehicle battle missions:

  • Soliton Radar – This item gives you the classic radar from earlier games in the series, it marks enemies and their vision cones on the map, but battery is limited until you get the rank 5 version, which will be late in the game. You can develop this after completing chapter 5. It’s very useful for ghost missions, as it lets you see them on the radar.
  • Mk.22 Upgraded – Upgrading the Mk.22 as you play will not only make the suppressor last longer, but it makes the rounds put enemies to sleep much faster, this is an essential piece of equipment.
  • Supply Markers – These will carry you through the AI weapon battles, you can get S ranks with these easily enough and with having upgraded launchers. They are essential for replenishing your healing items as well, still useful even after getting the bandana for the helicopter battles, use the throwable versions.
  • Upgraded Launchers – As you play and upgrade your R&D, you will unlock more powerful launchers, these are essential to defeating AI weapons much faster to get the S ranks.
  • Mosin-Nagant – The rank 5 version especially is very useful as it’s a silenced tranquiliser rifle that is much more powerful than the Mk.22, but it can feel difficult to handle, not absolutely essential but nice to have.
  • Carl Gustav Fulton – This is an amazing weapon that is basically a rocket launcher sleep fulton with an area of effect, it will instantly fulton enemies away when fired at them. It is unlocked by completing Extra Ops 098. It requires R&D 74, Medical 56, Intel 67 to develop.
  • Twin Barrel (Rubber Slug) – This non-lethal weapon is very good in defence based missions, where you have to defend areas against incoming enemies. The design for this is found by completing Extra Ops 023.

Vehicle Battle Equipment and Strategies

This is where most of your time and effort will be spent for S ranks. Below is a list of required equipment and how the strategy works. With this you will be able to S-rank all tank and armoured vehicle battles with ease.

Tanks/Armoured Vehicle Battles Equipment:

  • Bandana – The designs for this are obtained by S-ranking Extra Ops 119 Peace Walker Custom Battle, bring your most powerful launchers and supply marker and just beat it as quickly as possible. It requires Combat Unit and R&D at 88 to develop. This gives you infinite ammo for all weapons and doesn’t penalise your rank.
  • Smoke Grenades – Develop your smoke grenades to rank 5 to make them last much longer.
  • NVG – Develop these to rank 5 so the battery is infinite, though not absolutely essential it lets you see in the smoke.
  • Carl Gustav Fulton – Absolutely essential, this is what we’ll be using to extract every soldier, under cover of smoke grenades, without triggering an alert.
  • Mosin-Nagant – Optional to upgrade this to rank 5, but not essential, if you prefer you can stick to the Mk.22, this is just for taking out the vehicle captain.

The Strategy:

  • Smoke Grenades – Equip the bandana and start by throwing smoke grenades at yourself, this will completely obscure you from enemy view no matter how close they are to you, make sure you throw them before stepping out in the open, and make sure you’re covered when you do.
  • Carl Gustav Fulton Extraction & Bandana – Start extracting soldiers with the Carl Gustav under the cover of smoke with the bandana still equipped, make sure to throw smoke grenades again every few shots or so to keep up the effect. Enemies will start to spawn in and be attracted to the noise of your shots, don’t worry, they won’t see you in the smoke, even if they are standing right next to you, it won’t cause an alert, just keep extracting them until they are all gone, you can use the NVGs if you are struggling to see them in the smoke, just remember to switch back to the bandana.
  • Take out the Captain – Assuming you managed to extract every soldier without causing an alert, the captain will emerge without having to damage the vehicle, take him out non-lethally with the Mk.22 or Mosin-Nagant, you can usually get the mission done within 5 minutes or less for tank battles.
  • Note for Armoured Vehicles – This strategy still works on Armoured Vehicles. However it is slower because backup soldiers only spawn periodically from the vehicle itself as it patrols, they don’t spawn in from all corners of the map unlike with tanks. You can cause an alert which will then make backup soldiers spawn in much faster like with tanks, you will have to take cover and extract soldiers quickly as they will all be shooting at you, this is riskier as you also need to damage the vehicle enough as well to make the captain emerge, but it does speed up the mission significantly, so it’s up to you if you want to use the safer, slower strategy or not, as some missions have as many as 36 soldiers to deal with.

Helicopter Battles:

  • PTRS1941 – Absolutely essential. This will allow you to destroy the cockpit of helicopters, spawning the captain without having to deal with all of the soldiers. To unlock this you first need to develop the PTRD1941, you need R&D level 50 and have completed Extra Ops 050 for the design. Then get the PTRS1941 design by S-ranking Extra Ops 049, it requires an R&D level of 96. You also need a staff member with the Anti-Tank Rifle design skill on your R&D team, one can be found in Extra Ops 055 if you don’t already have one.
  • Smoke Grenades – Also essential, upgrade these to rank 5 preferably.
  • NGVs – The NGVs will help you hold up the initial group of soldiers, but is then no longer used.
  • Future Curry/Rations – Develop the future curry and upgraded rations, this requires a Mess Hall level of 51. The strategy involves causing an alert against the helicopter so make sure you have the best healing items with you just in case.
  • Supply Markers – You won’t be using the bandana here, infinite ammo isn’t needed, if you run out of PTRS ammo use supply markers, you need to keep healing items equipped during these missions.
  • Battle Dress – Needed for extra damage resistance just in case you take any hits. Some helicopters deal massive damage with their missile attacks, don’t use the sneaking suit as missile fire can hit you multiple times in one volley and burn through multiple equipped healing items at once.
  • Mosin-Nagant – Not essential, but I find it easier to snipe the captain, if you prefer you can use the Mk.22 instead.

The Strategy:

  • Smoke Grenades & holding up – Immediately at the start of the mission, make your way to the initial 4 soldiers, throw smoke grenades at them and one to cover your path to them, put on your NVGs and run up to them quickly and hold them all up, as soon as you’ve held them up then run back for cover. On the Banana Fruta de Oro Farm map, use the large shed close to where the soldiers were. On the Catarata de la Muerte map, run back to where you spawned in and use the tree and mounds here for cover from missile fire.
  • Cause an alert – After holding up all 4 starting soldiers, they will remain this way and no more will spawn in. From cover, cause an alert, this will make sure the helicopter is almost always positioning itself in front of you instead of patrolling around randomly. This makes it much easier to shoot the cockpit more aggressively.
  • PTRS1941 destroy the cockpit, equip healing items – Since you held up the 4 starting soldiers, no more will spawn in, so you can focus entirely on the helicopter. Now you want to start shooting the cockpit with your PTRS1941 until it’s destroyed, some helicopters don’t take many shots, but the higher difficulty ones can take 20+ shots. Keep healing items equipped at all times, the missile attacks can deal huge damage and shred through your health and healing items. The machine gun fire isn’t a major concern. With the battle dress and healing items equipped, you should never die in one hit, if you run low on healing items use supply markers to replenish them. Once you destroy the cockpit the captain emerges, regardless of us not extracting any soldiers.
  • Take out the Captain – Once the cockpit is destroyed, take out the captain with the Mosin-Nagant or mk.22, while taking care to avoid missile fire. With this strategy you can S-rank most of these battles in 5 minutes or less, provided everything went smoothly.
