Mortal Kombat 11 has 25 playable characters at launch. This guide explains how to unlock all chars in the game.
- 23 Characters are unlocked from the beginning
- 1 Character called Frost can be unlocked by picking all 4 Sub-Zero choices in Chapter 4 of the Story. This chapter lets you play as Scorpion or Sub-Zero. Always pick Sub-Zero and you’ll unlock Frost at the end of Chapter 4. If you picked Scorpion by mistake you can simply replay that part of the chapter and pick the other choice.
- 1 Character called Shao Kahn is a Pre-Order Bonus. If you bought the disc version, there should be a leaflet inside with the Shao Kahn code. If you pre-ordered digitally it will automatically download with the game.
So there’s really only 2 characters you must unlock. All other fighters are available from the beginning!

I pre-ordered the physical version at Best Buy. The code was not in the box. A day after release Best Buy emailed me the code. I have to think other retailers are similar as I can’t really see the box at GameStop being different than the box at Best Buy, for example. I could be wrong of course but that would be really weird.

Talk to the shop that sold you the game if they can get you a replacement code. Sounds like someone guessed the code through sheer luck and redeemed it that way, or they gave out the same code to multiple people by accident. Could also be a PSN bug! I had this happen too, that a code didn’t work on one account, but could be redeemed on another. What you can try is to create a new PSN account and see if it’s redeemable there, although I’m not sure if it will then let you use Shao on your main account or not.

I turned the game on yesterday and did not have all 23 characters. It was limited. Maybe you have to start the story mode or something because I just turned it on and went to practice mode. There were like 12 characters available which is why I went searching.

When NetherRealm releases them. I know that might sound like a smart ass answer but I promise it isn’t. If you bought the Kombat Pack you receive that DLC once it is ready and the developers have released it. To my knowledge, no release date has been announced. If I am wrong though and someone knows of a release date I would appreciate knowing it myself.

That happen to me too. I can’t redeem Shao Khan even I complete the story mode. When I redeem it, it said “The product associated with that code is not currently available”.

Does anybody know when or how I can get Sindel?? I have been waiting on being able to play with her again and to find out that she’s not on the character list from the beginning. My kids were finally going to really see who runs this game but my player isn’t there, I dont know what to do. When will she be available and how do I get her once she is?

We’ll have to wait for her to get patched in. She was leaked as a DLC character but when this gets released is unclear, it often takes many months for all chars to be released.
