The Evil Within 2 Trophy Guide & Roadmap

The Evil Within 2 Trophy Roadmap

  • Estimated trophy difficulty: 7.5/10
  • Approximate amount of time to platinum: 30 hours+ (highly skill dependent, depending on how often you die on Classic difficulty).
  • Offline Trophies: 52 (1trophy, 1trophy, 14trophy, 36trophy)
  • Number of missable trophies: All of them, except the automatic story trophies (there’s no chapter select)
  • Glitched trophies: 0
  • Does difficulty affect trophies?: Yes, you must beat the game on Original difficulty (Akumu). Everything else can be done on casual. You also unlock Classic Mode from beating Casual. For the weapon “Brass Knuckles” you must beat the game on Nightmare or Classic difficulty.
  • Minimum Playthroughs: 3+

Introduction

Welcome to The Evil Within 2 Trophy Guide! Just like the first game this platinum is not for the faint-hearted. Akumu difficulty returns under the disguise of “Classic Mode”. You only have 7 manual saves for the entire game and cannot buy weapon upgrades. Unlike the first game, this one features many open world sections. You can completely bypass enemies and sneak / run past them. So it’s a bit easier than the first game. Classic difficulty is unlocked by beating the game for the first time (any difficulty, casual will do). All of the trophies are missable except for story trophies. There are lots of collectible types, 115 collectibles plus 7 coffee makers in safehouses and you must find all weapons. After beating the game for the first time, you unlock New Game+. Your collectibles and purchased weapon upgrades / skills carry over into New Game+. This way you can farm the remaining upgrades for their related trophies. However, you cannot transfer your equipment to Classic Mode. It’ll be the same difficulty you selected at the start of the first playthrough.

Step 1: Beat Story on Nightmare Difficulty, Get All Collectibles & Weapons, Chapter Specific Trophies / Combat Trophies

You should start on Nightmare (hard difficulty). The reason being that one weapon, the “brass knuckles” is only rewarded by beating the game on Nightmare or Classic difficulty (“Powerhouse” trophy). You cannot earn this trophy on lower difficulties. It’s also good training for Classic Mode to get a feel for ammo conservation.

All the trophies in the game are missable, except for the automatic story unlocks. You will have to do multiple playthroughs anyway so it’s not too bad if you miss something here. Your main focus should be the collectibles and finding all weapons. If you miss any you can pick them up in New Game+. All your collectible progress, equipment and weapon upgrades / skills carry over.

The most missable trophies that take place over multiple chapters are:

  • Sykes Out (Chapters 7-13, must do all side missions in chapter 7 to get the final quest in chapter 13).
  • I’ll Take You Down Myself (Chapters 11 – 14)

There is no chapter select in this game! If you miss them you have to do it in New Game+ or make a manual save from time to time and reload it.

Follow these two guides for the weapon locations & collectibles:

  • The Evil Within 2 Weapon Locations
  • The Evil Within 2 Collectible Locations

Step 2: New Game+, Upgrade All Weapons and Buy all Skills

After the first playthrough you unlock New Game+. All your collectibles, gear, and upgrades carry over into New Game Plus. You will receive all the carried-over upgrades and items at a certain point in chapter 2. Green Gel and Weapon Parts are also more plentiful in New Game Plus so it’s easier to unlock upgrades. Kill all enemies and search all areas carefully to get enough upgrade parts. You must fully upgrade all your weapons and buy all skills for the trophies “Stick it in My Veins” & “They Never Even Stood A Chance”.

You may select any difficulty equal to or lower than the original difficulty completed. If the second playthrough isn’t enough to get all upgrades, you can do a third run in New Game++.

Step 3: Classic Mode Difficulty (Akumu)

Akumu difficulty from the first game returns under the disguise of “Classic Mode”. You only have 7 manual saves for the entire game and cannot buy upgrades. Unlike the first game, this one features many open world sections. You can completely bypass enemies and sneak / run past them. So it’s a bit easier than the first game. There are also fewer boss fights. Classic difficulty is unlocked by beating the game for the first time (any difficulty).

Ammo conservation is the biggest challenge. Try to do sneak kills wherever possible. In open world sections, sneak-kill enemies for possible drops and loot everything carefully. Make one manual save every few chapters. There are 17 chapters total, so one save every 2-3 chapters is okay. Make the saves before difficult sections or boss fights.

Chapter 3
This side quest is given to you by O’Neal in the safehouse at the start of chapter 3. Pick the dialogue option “Supplies?” when talking to him. Then you get the quest. The quest markers will be placed on the map. You have to track down radio signals around the map and investigate them. Then return to O’Neal to turn in the quest.

Sykes Out
Completed the “The Last Step” side mission.
Chapter 7 & Chapter 13
First you must complete all side quests in chapter 7. There are two of them, called “Out in the Open” & “Getting Back Online”.If you’ve completed these quests it will automatically trigger “The Last Step” side mission in chapter 13 after stepping through the computer portal in the safehouse (start of chapter 13). Do this quest to obtain the trophy.
Finally Free
Experienced every traumatic encounter and made peace with your inner demons.
You get this for completing all 4 demon hallucinations (Anima Events). This happens automatically when you go for all collectibles. The hallucinations are from Photographic Slide #2 (Chapter 3), File #12 “Woman’s Journal” (Chapter 3), Residual Memory #12 (Chapter 7), File #32 “Computer File: Pit Observatory” (Chapter 11).

Simply collect all 4 of these collectibles and it will trigger the hallucinations. After completing the fourth hallucination it unlocks the trophy.

See The Evil Within 2 All Collectible Locations Guide.

You Got Red in You
Used your first Red Gel.
Red Gel is found only at certain locations. For example, in the safe house of chapter 4 (end of chapter) / chapter 5 (you have to backtrack to the chapter 4 safehouse).

The Red Gel is used to unlock higher tier skills. Go to the mirror area and sit in the chair. Buy a few skill upgrades and you can use the red gel to unlock the next tier of skill upgrades.

Stick it in My Veins
Completely upgraded all abilities.
For this you have go to into New Game+ and farm a lot of Green Gel.

Luckily, Green Gel is more plentiful in New Game+. Abilities can be upgraded in the mirror area by sitting in the chair. You must also collect the Red Gel to unlock higher-tier skill upgrades.

Making Things a Little Easier
Used your first High-Grade Weapon Parts.
High-Grade Weapon Parts are found at certain points in the game world and in some safehouses. Buy the first two upgrades for your weapon and then use the high-grade weapon parts at a workbench to upgrade the weapon to the next level.
Now You’re Playing with Power
Upgraded a weapon to Level 3.
To upgrade a weapon to level 3 you must use High-Grad Weapon Parts at a workbench to unlock the higher-tier upgrades. You don’t actually have to buy every single upgrade, just use the High-Grade weapon parts to unlock the last set of upgrades.
A Little Extra Kick to it
Upgraded one of your Warden Crossbow bolts to max level.
This will unlock automatically when you go for the trophy “Smoke Assassin” (you must fully upgrade the Smoke Bolts for it).

The Warden Crossbow is found in Chapter 3, see trophy “Good to See You Again” for the location.

After finding the Warden Crossbow you can upgrade its bolt types at any workbench. There are 4 types of bolts (Smoke, Shock, Explosive, Harpoon). The Harpoon Bolt is the cheapest to upgrade for 1120 weapon parts and 2 high-grade weapon parts. However, since you need the fully upgraded Smoke Bolt for trophy “Smoke Assassin” anyway you should focus on that first.

They Never Even Stood A Chance
Completely upgraded all weapons.
For this you must go into New Game+ and collect lots of weapon parts and High-Grade weapon parts. These are found in many locations around the game world. Just loot every building carefully and you’ll get plenty of parts.

Your upgrades are carried over into New Game+. In chapter 2 you get your gear back and can continue to upgrade it.

Also see The Evil Within 2 All Weapon Locations.

DIY
Crafted something for the first time.
This can be done as soon as you reach the chapter 3 safehouse. Simply craft one handgun bullet at the workbench in the safehouse and you’ll unlock this. Workbenches can be found at safehouses and in the mirror area (after going through the mirrors). You collect crafting resources from fallen enemies and they are also found in the game world.
Handyman
Crafted every type of item at least once.
This trophy can only be obtained in New Game+ (because Magnum Ammo cannot be crafted in the first playthrough) and you must have found the Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Assault Rifle, and Flamethrower to craft their respective ammo. So first things first, collect all weapons on the initial playthrough. Then get to a workbench in New Game Plus (the first one is found in the chapter 3 safehouse) and craft the items listed below (every type of weapon ammo, crossbow bolts, health item).

See The Evil Within 2 All Weapon Locations Guide.

Weapons & Ammo:

  • Handgun Bullets
  • Shotgun Shells
  • Sniper Rifle Cartridges
  • Assault Rifle Cartridges
  • Flamethrower Fuel
  • Magnum Ammo

Crossbow Bolts:

  • Shock Bolt
  • Smoke Bolt
  • Explosive Bolt
  • Harpoon Bolt
  • Freeze Bolt

Good to See You Again
Acquired the Warden Crossbow.

The Warden Crossbow can be found near an APC in the south-west corner of the chapter 3 / chapter 4 open world (just to the left of the safehouse where the chapter starts). It is used to get access to the safe house in the north of the map.
This is also a great spot to do the “Shock Therapy” trophy / achievement for shooting an enemy standing in water.

Chatting With Kidman
Talked to Kidman about all of the photographic slides.
See The Evil Within 2 All Collectible Locations Guide.
Powerhouse
Acquired all standard weapons.
See The Evil Within 2 All Weapon Locations Guide.

The pre-order bonus weapon “Burst Handgun” is not required for this trophy. You need all weapons on one save. When starting a completely new game it will delete your weapons. You must be playing on Nightmare or Classic difficulty to earn this trophy. This is because the Brass Knuckles are only awarded for beating the game on Nightmare/Classic.

All in the Family
Collected all of the Mysterious Objects.
See The Evil Within 2 All Collectible Locations Guide.
Caffeine Addict
Used every Coffee Maker at least once.
Coffe Makers are found in safe houses. There are 7 of them in total. Each safe house has one. You got to the first 6 safe houses automatically. The last safe house in chapter 13 is optional and missable! Look for it on the map. The trophy will unlock after drinking coffee in the chapter 13 safe house in the business district (outside area, not the safe house where the mission starts).

Drinking coffee fully replenishes your health so it’s well worth doing. The coffee makers are in plain sight in the safehouses.

Thinning Them Out
Killed 30 enemies.
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed.
Clearing a Path
Killed 60 enemies.
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. You have to kill far more than 60 enemies to advance through story missions.
Smoke Assassin
Killed 3 enemies using upgraded Smoke Bolts.
To do this you need to fully upgrade the Smoke Bolts of the Warden Crossbow at a workbench. This is expensive, it costs 1650 weapon parts and 2 high-grade weapon parts to fully upgrade the Smoke Bolt. Either upgrade these bolts from the start or do it in New Game+.

The fully upgraded Smoke Bolts create a poisonous smoke that kills the enemies. Just look for a group of 3 or more enemies and shoot a bolt at them. The poison smoke will kill them.

Shock Therapy
Stunned an enemy standing in water using a Shock Bolt.

You can find the Warden Cross in Chapters 3 / 4.

It’s found by an APC in the south-west corner of the chapter 3 / chapter 4 open world (just to the left of the safehouse where the chapter starts).
You automatically pick up a shock bolt with the crossbow. After picking it up you’ll see a short cutscene with the area being flooded and two enemies running into the water. Shoot a shock bolt in the water and the trophy / achievement will unlock.

Wait For It…
Killed an enemy using an Ambush.

For this you need the stealth skill “Ambush”. You can buy skills by going to the mirror area and sitting in the chair (mirrors are found at every safehouse).
Now lean at a corner (press R1 / RB) and when an enemy approaches do a corner takedown by pressing X (PS4) / A (XB1). This unlocks the trophy / achievement. Can be done everywhere in the game. You can lure enemies to you by popping out of cover for a moment and letting them investigate the area (but be careful they don’t become fully aware of you, the corner takedown works only while you’re in stealth).

Kick, Shoot, Burn
Killed 2 or more enemies at once using oil on the ground.

Chapter 3
Just north of the safehouse where chapter 3 starts, you can find a trucking yard with a bunch of enemies. In the back corner of the trucking yard is some oil on the ground. Lure the enemies there and shoot the oil. You can climb on the box near the oil to avoid getting burned (the enemies can’t hit you there either).

Bootable Offense
Stomped and killed 15 fallen enemies.
When you shoot enemies in the leg twice with the pistol they will fall to the ground (or shoot them one time while they come running towards you). Then you can press :x: to do a stomp kill. Do this 15 times over the course of a playthrough. There are lots of weak enemies roaming around chapter 3, enough to earn this trophy early on.
I Am The Night
Killed 10 enemies using Sneak Kills.
You do stealth kills by sneaking up to enemies from behind and press :x: . There are more than 10 enemies in chapter 3, that’s the earliest opportunity you can do it. You have to do 10 stealth kills over the course of one playthrough.
Sometimes Fighting Isn’t the Answer
Avoided unnecessary bloodshed outside City Hall. (Ch. 5)

Chapter 5
At the start of chapter 5 you’ll encounter saw-wielding monster boss (the one that chased you earlier in chapter 2). To unlock the trophy you aren’t allowed to fight the boss. Instead, run around the building on the left side. Shoot the explosive barrels along the way to clear the path and avoid the tripwires. There’s a door around the building. Enter there to skip the boss completely without bloodshed. The trophy unlocks after entering that door.

Death From Above
Killed 2 or more enemies at once using a hanging lamp. (Ch. 9)

Chapter 9
In chapter 9 there are some lamps hanging from the ceiling. Shoot one of them when two enemies are standing below it. This will burn them. Can be done against the first two enemies you encounter in this chapter, after getting the crank.

No More Playing With Fire
Stopped a true believer from playing with his favorite toy. (Ch. 11)

Chapter 11
At the end of chapter 11 there’s a boss fight against a flamethrower enemy. The trophy is obtained by shooting the tank on his back until it explodes. Then he can no longer use the flamethrower.

Melancholy Memories
Reminisced about every moment from your past. (Ch. 12)

Chapter 12
In chapter 12 you will return to your house in the past. You’ll see a cutscene with you waking up in the bedroom upstairs. This is after escaping the burning hellish area.
Around the house are 3 objects you can interact with (it shows the X / A button prompt on them). There are two upstairs (one by the stairs, another in the room to the left of the stairs) and one downstairs (check the cupboard in the living room).

Do not interact with the letter on the kitchen table yet! Doing so will advance the story.

I’ll Take You Down Myself
Brought your own equipment to the barbecue this time. (Ch. 14)

This trophy / achievement takes place from chapters 11-14. It is highly missable and there are several steps to it. Forget to do any step within the given chapter and you’ll miss the trophy.

Step 1 (Chapter 11): After the Flamethrower boss fight, pick up the broken flamethrower next to the corpse of the boss.

Step 2 (Chapter 13): The flamethrower is broken and you must find two fuel tanks to repair it. You can collect the tanks from Harbinger enemies that are roaming around chapter 13. There are 3 of them in the business district. Sneak attacks deal a ton of damage to them. You can run away after a successful sneak attack and repeat. This way you don’t have to waste ammo on them. Sniper headshots and close range shotgun hits also work well. Just loot two Harbingers that you’ve killed to receive their fuel tanks

Step 3 (Chapter 13): Head to the safehouse and enter the mirror. At the workbench you can combine the fuel tanks with the broken flamethrower to repair it

Step 4 (Chapter 14): Keep playing until you reach chapter 14. Here you encounter the Laura boss from the first game. Kill her with the flamethrower. Make sure you have full flamethrower ammo. 80 flamethrower fuel will kill her.

You might also want to make a manual save during chapter 11. In case you forget anything you can reload the save instead of having to replay the entire game.

That Cinematic Feel…
Opted for a cinematic experience.

After beating the story for the first time (any difficulty) you unlock letterbox mode in the game options.
In the title screen go to: Options – HUD Display Settings – General – Letterbox – SHOW.

Now start a NEW GAME and the trophy will unlock.

    7.5/10 :O
Sounds a bit easier than the first game but don’t think I’ll even attempt classic mode, 7 saves total seems pretty cheap. You should be able to pick up cassettes or something like Resident Evil 7

Classic mode with only 7 manual saves…
Is there any automatic save between chapters or only manual?
    Very hard platinum :/

I believe there are automatic checkpoints, same as one in the lower difficulties. Otherwise this would be way harder than Akumu.

No auto save/checkpoints. Only 7 saves for the entire game on nightmare difficulty. Good luck with that one…

Some of the trophies/achievements have pop culture references:

“Fire Walk with Me” is from Twin Peaks prequel movie.

“I Am The Night” is from Batman: The Animated Series.

“Bootable Offence” is from The Simpsons episode: “Bart vs. Australia”

“Now You’re Playing with Power” is from the Nintendo adverts.

“Taken” is from the movie series of the same name.

I hope you sorted the handyman trophy, my handyman popped no problem like I said when on Ng+ chapter 3 I crafted the unlocked magnum ammo, and flamethrower fuel, and freeze bolt, after using powerpyx’s all weapon locations guide on my first casual run.

Liaaaaam nooooo. I followed step 1 get all weapons on normal playthrough, I def did cuz I wrote down the list then marked them off once I had acquired and used them.

Jump to step 3 just finish akumu/classic (I have, yay) unlocked brass knuckles… No trophy pop for powerhouse.. WTF! I just played thru akumu Ng+ to ch 3 to see if that helped trophy pop… Nope. Seriously wtf.

I’m mad iv got to now do another… 4th playthrough, when I thought my platinum would just popped!

Powerpyx u r normally brilliant but maybe this guide needs to be amended.

Well we’ll see what happens for other people.

For handyman – When u finish normal playthrough u get magnum unlocked, so then u have to play ‘new game plus’ thru to ur 1st workbench which is I think chapter 3, to make ammo for the magnum. 🙂

I do hope someone has the answer to my POWERHOUSE trophy question..

I also have problems with the handyman trophy. I crafted all items, even the flame thrower + it’s ammo. I think it’s because i missed to craft the sniper rifle in chapter 3. I got the rifle in chapter 11 or 13 and even in NG+ i couldnt craft it anymore, since the parts weren’t there. I guess i have to start over again…

It popped after I went thru the whole list. Also I’m on chapter 7 ng+ fully maxed all skills have a ton of weapons parts but I still need 4 high weapon upgrades it’s such a piss off any1 got any leads on that shit?

I’d really like an answer to this too. Did you find out if this is the case? I finished Nighmare and got the knuckles and Magnum, and was expecting it then. But other ppl online are saying that you have to play classic and re-collect all weapons again, which seems like BS. Wondering if that worked..

For anyone who wasn’t clear on the “Powerhouse” trophy. I beat the game on Nightmare mode, collecting every other weapon within the game in the process (including the flamethrower). For beating the game, I received the brass knuckles and magnum. As soon as I reached the point in Chapter 2 where you leave the house (the one where you kill the first enemy of the game and pick up the first handgun) I received the brass knuckles and magnum in my inventory and got the trophy. You do not need to necessarily reply the ENTIRE game over again unless you missed a weapon somewhere in the first playthrough. You definitely do not need to beat the game on Classic first either.

That was when I started New Game+ using the same save file, of course

    Hello guy’s,

I know there has been some questions for the handyman trophy, but mine won’t pop. I know what the reason is, i didn’t craft the sniper rifle.

So i did my first playtrough on nightmare, then a playtrough on easy (NG+) for al the other trophy’s. I have all the weapons (i got the Powerhouse trophy)
Then i went for the classic mode run, again no crafting of the sniper rifle.

The reason i didn’t craft the sniper rifle is because i didn’t follow the trophy guide.
So now i see that i have to craft the sniper rifle for the handyman trophy.
I crafted all the other items.

So i tought to start a NG+ on easy until chapter 3, and find the rifle + the parts but they aren’t there annymore because i guess i allready have the rifle.

So now i’m not sure what to do to get the trophy.
Is it oke to start a complete new game, find all the weapons again (craft the rifle) and then again a NG+ until chapter 3 to craft the magnum bullets?
Will i stil have all the other weapons from my first nightmare playtrough after i finished a new game? (the brassnuckles and the magnum?)

Sorry for my bad english but i’m from Belgium and speaking english that i can do, but writing…. :-)

    Thanks

Thank you always for your guides. In the game menu I see classic difficulty and below it is AKUMU. Please which of these two difficulty is needed for the trophy ” you asked for it again”?

Classic Mode – Akumu was put in place as a way to give those who want an extreme challenge.

This game should be a 1/10 in platinum difficulty now with the cheats they added. You can beat the game just using a knife until the final boss.

I can’t describe without words how much your trophy guides have helped me since owning a PS4. Anyway, the “You Asked For It…Again” trophy is the only one standing between me and the platinum. My question is, can you complete classic difficulty with a new game plus playthrough or does it have to be done from scratch?

Can i get the brass knuckles from playing classic mode or akumu mode, or is it just nightmare mode where you can get the brass knuckles

Also can i get the ‘you asked for it again’ from playing akumu mode. Akumu mode seems to be harder than classic mode but akumu mode has saves and i need my saves

I searched that after patch 1.05 you can beat classic mode and also enable cheats that you still unlock the achievements… Feelsbad :/
