Starfield How to Investigate the Source of the Anomaly

In Starfield, during Main Mission 05: Into the Unknown, you will get the objective to “Investigate the Source of the Anomaly”.

The objectives will take you to planet Proycon III. After landing on the planet, follow these steps to solve the Anomaly:

Step 1: After landing on Proycon III, open the scanner (F on PC / LB on Xbox) and turn around. You will see the outline of the scanner starting to get distorted when looking in the direction of the Anomaly. The white circle in the middle of the screen will start to break up. The more distorted it becomes the closer you are to pointing in the right direction. Go in the direction where the distortion is strongest. There will also be an “Unknown” marker in that direction, 860 meters away from the landing site. Below is an image showing the direction, and what the distortion in the scanner looks like (circled red in this image):

Step 2: Keep heading in that direction until you come to a “Temple”. When you get close it will get marked by an objective marker (if you are tracking the quest). Carefully drop down and look for a door between the rocks. Go inside.

Step 3: Inside you will be in a zero gravity room with a spinning artifact in the middle. Don’t exit through the door on the other end, it will put you back outside. Stay in the room and look for what looks like fireflies in the room (dancing lights). You must fly into these lights. After flying into one light, another spawns. Keep doing this repeatedly until the artifact in the middle is fully powered on. Each light powers it up a little bit more. You need to be quick because the lights will reset if you take too long.

Step 4: After the Artifact is fully powered it will stop spinning. Fly into it to get a short cutscene. This unlocks the Anti-Gravity Field power.

Step 5: Fast travel back to the Lodge to finish the quest. Open the character menu (Tab / Menu button), and at the top select “Powers” Menu. Pick the Anti-Gravity Field. Then close the menu and press Z / LB+RB to use the power in front of the lodge members. Talk to them afterward to finish the quest.

This concludes the objective “Investigate the Source of the Anomaly” in Starfield.
