In the Shadow of the Study is a Relationship Quest in Hogwarts Legacy. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the In the Shadow of the Study mission.
Location: Hogwarts -> The Grand Staircase -> Lower Grand Staircase

Requirement: Having Finished Relationship Quest: In the Shadow of the Bloodline
Reward: Crucio Spell
Mission Info: Sebastian wants to meet outside the Slytherin common room to talk to me about Slytherin’s Scriptorium.

Starting Location: In the Shadow of the Study
Meet Sebastian outside the Slytherin common room
Just talk to Sebastian outside the Slytherin common room.
Go with Sebastian to meet Ominis
Follow Sebastian to meet Ominis.
Speak with Ominis
Now just interact with Ominis and talk to him.
Open Slytherin’s door
To open the door next to Ominis, you have to cast Confringo/Incendio on three Pillars. Two Pillars are to the right of the Door, and one on the opposite of the door. You have to be very fast because all three Pillars need to be on fire. Standing in the corner and shooting Confringo is the fastest method.
Explore beyond the doorway
Once the door is open, pass it.
Figure out how to progress
To progress, cast Reparo on the wall.
Speak with Ominis about the hissing
Now talk to Ominis, he needs to open the door.
Wait for Ominis to open the door
Simply wait and do nothing until the door is open.
Explore beyond the serpent door
Just pass the door that opened.
Find a way through
Now follow the path, and you will get to a crossing, to the left is a door where you can crawl through, but go right first and look at the closed door. Write down/remember the symbols on the door, you will need them in a second.
Now crawl through the door that is half open and interact with the Slytherin Lock, with the left and right stick you can select the symbols. Now match the symbols with those from the locked door.
The previously locked door is now open, pass it and you will be in front of another locked door. Write down/remember those symbols again.
Now trace back to where you entered the area. A second Slytherin Lock will now be active. Do NOT use the symbols that you just wrote down, instead match the symbols on the Slytherin Lock with the symbols from the door next to it.
Pass the door and follow the path, you will find a third Slytherin Lock, here you can enter the Symbols that you wrote down on the second door.
Pass the door that just opened.
Talk to Sebastian
You just need to talk to Sebastian.
Talk to Ominis about Crucio
Now talk to Ominis about Crucio.
Talk to Sebastian
IMPORTANT: If you want to learn Crucio here, select the third Option “Teach me the Cruciatus Curse and I’ll cast it on you”.
Explore beyond the doorway
Just pass the now opened door.
Search Slytherin’s Scriptorium
To proceed, you have to pick up the book in the middle of the room.
Give the Book to Sebastian
Give the book to Sebastian.
Leave the Scriptorium
After the conversation, you can leave the Scriptorium through the statue next to Sebastian and Ominis.
Listen to what Ominis has to say
Simply listen to what Ominis has to say.

You can pick option 2 and not cast it on anyone.

Came to say the same. You can choose the option to learn Crucio but allow Sebastian to cast on you and be fine.
