Once Upon a Katamari contains 248 Collectible Locations: 141 Crowns, 68 Cousins, and 39 Presents. The Crowns and Cousins are needed for various trophies. The Presents aren’t needed for trophies and can be skipped if you’re going for the Platinum trophy (if you exclude those it’s 209 collectibles needed for trophies).
Collecting all Cousins is required to unlock the “Tag, You’re It!” levels, which have a trophy tied to each level for collecting the Crowns.
Getting all of the Cousins and Crowns is actually the only thing required for the Platinum. You don’t even need to beat the game to earn the Platinum, as the final level doesn’t have any collectibles. So by following this collectible guide you will unlock all trophies & achievements automatically along the way, there’s nothing else to do.
Your collectibles will not save if you quit out or fail a level, so be sure to collect them again if you fail or quit.
Cousins will not spawn on a level until you have collected the previous Cousin on the same level, for example: Cousin #2 will not show up until you have collected Cousin #1 in the same level, and Cousin #3 will not show up if you haven’t collected Cousin #2 in the same level. Because of this, you’ll have to replay levels that contain more than one Cousin multiple times.
The game also contains items called Freebies, which work as powerups, the effects of each Freebie are as follows:
- Rocket: Makes your Katamari roll faster for a limited amount of time.
- Magnet: Pulls objects below your current size towards you for a limited amount of time.
- Sonar: Detects the closest collectible for a limited amount of time, this includes Crowns, Cousins and Presents.
- Timer: Freezes the level timer, as well as all moving objects for a limited amount of time.
The Rocket freebie isn’t all that useful for finding collectibles, and the timer isn’t that helpful either, but could still come in handy if you’re trying to grab a collectible that moves around a lot, so you can keep them in place. The Magnet is extremely useful, since it can pull some hard to reach collectibles straight towards you. Even if you’re using this guide, the Sonar could possibly still come in handy if you’re struggling to find the general area of a collectible. For example the Sonar can be especially handy for the “Lots of Yokai” level, since it’s pretty dark. Something to note is that the Sonar will not appear as a powerup in most levels until you beat and replay them.
One last thing to note about Freebies, is that when you finish a level with one on hand, it will carry over to the next level you play. So if you want to save a Freebie for another level instead of using it, feel free to do so.

Floating around at the top of the river. She’s small, but pretty high up, so you’ll need to either use a magnet, or have a large Katamari that’s tall enough to reach her.

Found next to an Alien, on top of the cliff. It’s huge and hard to miss, but you’ll need to be careful since you have to be big to grab it, and you’re only allowed to roll up 50 objects on this stage.

Very small, found dangling on a jellyfish-like creature that’s swimming around the level.

Found outside, underneath an area with two buried statues. Roll it up while you’re small, since you won’t fit if you’re too big.

Found in a bird’s nest that’s on someone’s head. This one can be tricky to get, because you need to roll off the roof, and then land directly on the nest to grab it. If you’re having trouble, you can use a magnet, but there aren’t any magnets on this level, so you’ll have to grab one from another level.

As Large As Possible (Sea)
This stage has two routes that will take you to different areas. Any collectible exclusive to a route will state which route it can be earned in. The two routes are activated like this:
Kraken Route: After you reach a certain size, a cutscene of an octopus running around will play. Roll up the octopus and you’ll start the Kraken Route.
Ghost Ship Route: After you reach a certain size, a cutscene of an octopus running around will play. Ignore the octopus without rolling it up and you’ll start the Ghost Ship Route.
Due to the way the Cousins spawn in this game, you’ll want to do the Ghost Ship Route on your second run, and the Kraken Route for your third run. You can do either route for your first run.

Cowbear Pasture

Surrounded by three signs at the grassy area near the bear samurai. Be careful not to roll up the signs, or you’ll end the level.

Found between a bunch of cow cones on the mountain. Be careful not to roll up the cones, or you’ll end the level.

Found in the sea, surrounded by bears. You’ll need to be pretty big to get this one, but make sure you aren’t too big or you might accidentally roll up a bear and end the stage.

Exiting the beam of a big UFO amongst many other items. Keep waiting and eventually the present will come out.
Cousin #1: Daisy
Driving around the path of the mountain, very close by if you head just straight from the mountain starting area. Rolling her up will end the stage since she’s considered to be a cow.

At the grassy area near the bear samurai, watching a show on a bench with some animals.
Lots of Icicles

In the water, on a narwhal.
Crown #2
In a closed off and high up area, you’ll be able to climb up there after rolling up 500 icicles.

On an Ice pillar surrounded by penguins, you’ll need to be large to roll up there and grab it.

In a high-up, closed-off area with Santa inside. You need to roll up 500 icicles to climb up there.

On a man’s head, he’s standing inside a ring of logs.

It occasionally pops out of one of the dirt mounds.

Found in the lake with sea monsters, near the 60 meter barrier.
Rev Up Those Fryers

Found around some spinning food, near Cousin #1.

Found on a pole, you’ll need to carefully balance across it.
Crown #3
Found on a man’s head, this one is tricky to get. Pick up the nearby magnet by crossing the pipes to the right, and then roll up towards the man. Once you get close enough to his head, activate the magnet and the crown should pull towards you.

On a plate that two guys are pulling back and forth.
Cousin #1: Kinoko
Found near a magnet and some sauce. She’s a mushroom, and you need to be around 16cm to roll her up, so don’t waste time trying to collect her until you’re big enough.

Found near the starting area, on a scale.

Found on a seal’s belly, in the second area.
Crown #3
On the head of a taiyaki fish, near the ring toss game.

Be sure to make use of the Timer freebies, as you only have 1 minute, and you’ll want to freeze the time limit as much as possible.

On top of two tins, you’ll need to be big enough to roll up the two tins, but a magnet might work too.

The Prince is not required for the Platinum or your cousin collection since you already have him unlocked from the start. He’s found rolling his own Katamari around the room.
