Resident Evil 2 Remake How to Unlock Infinite Ammo

January 24, 2019 by PowerPyx 98 Comments

In Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019) on PS4, Xbox One and PC you can unlock Infinite Ammo. This is an actual in-game reward and not a cheat.

There are 5 weapons with Infinite Ammo. They are rewards for tasks found in the Records Menu. You access the Records Menu from the Main Menu, Bonuses, Records. You can also view it anytime from the Pause Menu.

  • Infinite Samurai Edge Pistol Ammo: Beat Standard Difficulty with S-Rank. The time requirement is 3:30:00 for Leon A / Claire A & 3:00:00 for Leon B / Claire B.
  • Infinite LE 5 Submachine Gun Ammo: Beat Hardcore Difficulty with S-Rank. The time requirement is 2:30:00 for Leon A / Claire A & 2:00:00 for Leon B / Claire B.
  • Infinite Combat Knife: Find All 15 Mr. Raccoons. See Collectible Locations Guide.
  • Infinite ATM-4 Rocket Launcher: Beat Leon’s story on Hardcore with S+ Rank (doesn’t matter if A or B scenario, either will unlock it). The time requirement is 2:30:00 for A-Scenario / 2:00:00 for B-Scenario. To get S+ you are not allowed to use any infinite ammo weapons as they void S+ and restrict you to normal “S” rank! So you must play without using any of the above infinite ammo weapons, just leave them in the item box. Furthermore, there are reports that you can only make up to 3 manual saves for S+. If you make 4 manual saves it turns into S rank.
  • Infinite Minigun: Beat Claire’s story on Hardcore with S+ Rank (doesn’t matter if A or B scenario, either will unlock it).

Having unlimited ammo is super helpful for Hardcore Difficulty. Therefore it’s recommended you do a Standard Difficulty S-Rank Speedrun first. The only requirement for S-Rank is time. It doesn’t matter how often you die or save. However, if you do die, make sure you don’t select “Continue” as it keeps counting your time since last death. Instead, quit to Main Menu and continue from there to be set back to last checkpoint or load save so it reverts your timer. With this method it excludes the time since death. Pausing the game is also fine, it will stop the timer when you pause. It doesn’t matter with which character you do the S-Rank or if it’s A or B scenario. The Infinite Ammo unlocks for both characters across all difficulty settings. That means when you get the Infinite Samurai Edge Pistol through Standard Difficulty S-Rank it can be used on Hardcore difficulty, too!

If you want to unlock the infinite Rocket Launcher and Minigun you must earn S+ on Hardcore difficulty. Using any infinite ammo weapon or making more than 3 manual saves will restrict you to normal “S” Rank so “S+” becomes unobtainable. If you want these ultimate weapons you have to play without any of the previously unlocked infinite ammo weapons.

The 15 Mr. Raccoons for the knife will require multiple playthroughs because some are exclusive to Leon A, Claire A, and either one’s B campaign. Ideally, you’ll get the Mr. Raccoons first, then do the S-Rank on Normal, then tackle Hardcore.

After unlocking an infinite weapon you can retrieve it from the item box on all playthroughs, with all characters and difficulty settings. Enjoy your unlimited ammo!

There are reports that infinite rocket launcher unlocks for beating Leon’s B campaign on Hardcore difficulty with S+ Rank, but I haven’t been able to confirm this yet.

how the hell do you complete resident evil origin on a time space of 0.00.00 seems impossible like the game at times but i dont understand how this is the case.how do you complete a game in 0.00.00 seconds hours, minutes well and when it took me a serious 33 to 36 or even 37 to 38 hours in a period of some serious months.difficult to say the least.they must have cheated through some extreme…?? Any comments? have you seen the score board on that game resident evil remake ps4 in wich at the top of the leader board 1,2,3 the top through to you and me,The actual players of the expertly crafted resi series apart from the difficult resident evil code veronica X wich i had a good go at on the ps2 mini silver console didnt get very far a fraction of game but seemingly considerable to the player i felt.until the remake of X comes through then i will have to lust after completing it wich i originally and previously did and could not do.became menial and stressing i could’nt do it but wanted to

Yes correct. You can use the Normal Difficulty unlocks on any other difficulty (including hardcore).

These infinite Ammo unlocks won’t disable trophies/achievements or anything if I try going for the Hardcore related ones?

They don’t disable any trophies. Using infinite ammo is fine, it’s not a cheat, just an in-game bonus unlock. Hardcore is meant to be played like that. Without infinite ammo that would be ridiculous.

Does pausing the game stop the game timer like it did reisdent evil 0 or is it like resident evil remake where the only way to stop the timer is to leave the game?

It does stop the in-game timer when you pause. Thanks for the question, I’ll add that info to the guide as well 🙂

    • Rob says

      March 23, 2019 at 10:57 pm

yes it does pausing the game stops the timer and the double load trick to back your time up if you die just hit continue after you die and when your game loads up just reload your last save and it puts the time back to when you first saved there.

This will be my second time playing a Resident Evil title apart from 7. How hard do you think it would be for a somewhat newcomer to get an s rank?

    • PowerPyx says

      January 25, 2019 at 10:51 am

This one is VERY different from RE7. This is classic old school Resident Evil and not one of the new easy peasy linear RE games.
With a walkthrough it will be easy regardless (we have one here on PowerPyx frontpage or just put Resident Evil 2 Walkthrough in our site search). Without a walkthrough it can be very confusing. In some areas it took me a while to figure out where to go, what to do and how to complete puzzles, but that’s what I really liked about this game anyway. It doesn’t take you by the hand, you gotta figure out where to go or look up the solution when you get stuck.
The trophies are also harder than RE7, the 4th Survivor mode will test your patience and Zombies are much harder to kill than in RE7, they usually recover after a minute and just stand up again, but you can blow their heads up with a shotgun or ~15 pistol headshots.

By file do you mean whose campaign (Leon A/B, Claire A/B)? They are all about the same. I’d say A is a bit easier cause you got 30 minutes extra, but doesn’t matter if Leon or Claire. I got S on a collectible run even though I searched lots of optional game areas and wasn’t rushing through it. There’s a lot of breathing room with those time requirements. You can do it in about 2 hours.

Out of the handguns I found Claire’s to be the best by a mile. Brings down zombies in 2 headshots instead of 3 with Leon’s & it has an upgrade in sewers to turn it into a Magnum.
There is no infinite magnum ammo. Only infinite pistol and infinite SMG.

    2. Can u make any strategy on leon against lickers ?

I think that you can get banned on pc by using trainers, but yeah.
It’s not that hard to get them, i recommend to you to do a normal run of the game taking your time and making notes of the puzzles and places to go (skipping the optional stuff) and you will get that s+ rank easy.

Also, save before the boss battles and try using different approaches trying to get them fast, that helps a lot.

      Hope this helps you!

No cheating on PC (at least yet). The only mods out are re-shades and Character swaps, for example you can play as Chris Redfield. Nothing that would help you get through the campaign though. I feel your pain, I was trying to speed run on hardcore and its not easy. I still need to learn the route. Just keep at it, I believe in you

Pause a lot to plan your route. Only go for items you need. Be wise about where to save (only save after doing an item run). If you took too long, reload game and replay the last segment. E.g. if a zombie grabbed you or you took to long on a boss, reload and retry.

i’ve just finished hardcore LEON “A” with 1hr48min
    the rank is S+
and then i new game(real new game) claire A
in the item box there is the infinite launcher(AT4) so i cannot confirm about the condition
    but the weapon is real.
the samurai edge and LE5 have a magazine of 15 and 32 rounds(infinite reload: the ammo pouch says infinite) respectively but the AT4 is infinite with no reload.
So in conclusion no sceanario B needed any scenario can unlock it.

Not exactly, the way it works is that you retrieve these infinite ammo weapons from the item box and then they always have infinite ammo (cannot be switched on or off). But you can bring any other handgun or weapon with you and use the normal ammo, just reserve the infinite weapon for tough situations if you prefer that.

But can anyone answer me if Infinite Guns required for Trophies?
    Cuz mine isn’t 100%.

But I am not intend get infinite… it’s pointless.
You can’t use it on Mr. X and to get S+, you probably need to remember every movement of zombies… and remember everything to the last details (I did with S Standard).

And if you remember everything… and know everything… those gun is kind of pointless.
Needed for Boss? Well, you beat them once (or more than once without those Guns) you can do it again.

I’m confuse to what intention of producer… why Infinite Gun is only unlockable after you got nothing to go on anymore?

Why couldn’t it be on DLC or have it unlock in form of insane puzzle (that randomly changes pattern, even guide on the internet won’t help)… At least… once you unlock it… you still have a some story to go through….

This game give me a Dejavu feeling about cop movies, the one that only showed or arrived at the scene at the very end of movie or when everything is settled.

ive unlocked everything in this game but i totally agree with you.
the atm launcher would have been a lot more fun to go through hardcore with rather than having to beat it first.
now i have all the unlocks, theres nothing to do with them.

    1. Will there be any DLC for weapon unlocks and/or infinite ammo unlock?
I don’t know if I will be able to beat this game under 3:30 hours.

    2. Is there a way to stop the time while I’m playing? Does pausing the game or going to the Playstation menu stop the game time? I’m want to follow a speed run as I’m playing. I really want infinite ammo lol.

There is so many glitches in this game that u can literally float through walls and beat it in like 40 mins also pausing the game pauses the ingame timer.

Hey Power, long time fan of your stuff.
If you are still here or if anybody can answer, is it possible to acquire the Unlimited Knife on Assisted Difficulty since you are only going for collectibles and not S rank?

just regularly pausing the game into the map anything would stop the timer you don’t have to quit the game

So basically, infinite ammo doesn’t help the players that actually need it…noobs like me. Makes about as much sense as an architect who designs a house and puts the fuse box in the shower area.
