Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered has 40 Red Gem Locations across the 5 Acts. This guide is updated for the 2024 Remaster released on PS4, PS5, PC Steam, Xbox One, Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch.
Red Gems are used to buy upgrades, and you will need all 80 upgrades for High in Las Vegas. As there are only 40 Red Gems found throughout the chapters, the rest can be bought from Christopher’s Shop using White Gems, the currency in Shadows of the Damned. Red Gems from the shop cost 45 White Gems on Lemon Hunter (Easy), 75 White Gems on Demon Hunter (Normal) and 120 White Gems on Legion Hunter (Hard). For this reason, it is recommended to go for all 80 upgrades on Lemon Hunter (easy difficulty). Even on Lemon Hunter, killing all enemies won’t get you enough White Gems to purchase enough Red Gems so you may need to grind some White Gems.
There are multiple White Gem farming locations, as well as a Red Gem dupe exploit, which will help to get the 80 upgrades. All of these locations are listed as they appear in the guide. Hella Remastered also includes New Game+, which will allow you to collect the Red Gems again and get any remaining upgrades if you didn’t get enough on your first playthrough. Unfortunately, New Game+ can only be done on the same difficulty as the finished playthrough, so you cannot use this to make completing the higher difficulties easier.
Act 1-1: An Ordinary Life
There are no Red Gems in this chapter.
Act 2-1: Take Me To Hell
Red Gem 1-3
After being introduced to the ranged enemies with coneheads, you will go through a room and see Hangman’s Tavern on your left. Ignore the tavern and go downstairs under the bridge on the right. There will be 3 Red Gems behind the fence, approach them to automatically grab them after a cutscene teaching you about Red Gems.
Red Gem 4
Progress until you arrive at an alley where a Dark Hand spews some enemies out of a wall. Kill the enemies, then head to the back of the alley to find this gem behind a pillar.
Red Gem Dupe Exploit
It is possible to duplicate the previous gem (Red Gem 4). In order to do this, you must do the following:
- After collecting the Red Gem and clearing out the enemies, open the gate and take a few steps forward to trigger an autosave. Wait until the autosave completes, then quit game.
- Continue from Last Checkpoint and when it loads in do not move. Press to turn around and walk towards the gate to trigger the enemy spawn again. This will put you back inside the area with the Red Gem. If you accidentally move forward when you spawn in, the cutscene won’t trigger when you go back to the gate and the exploit won’t be able to be performed any further.
- Collect the Red Gem again, then trigger the autosave at the entrance to this area. After the autosave completes, quit the game again. You don’t need to kill the enemies, you can trigger the autosave immediately after grabbing the gem.
- Now once you continue, you will back at Step 1 again. Repeat as much as necessary.
Red Gem 5
Immediately after the previous area, climb up a ladder and you’ll hear an opera lady singing and see the windows shatter. Drop down and you will find a Baby Door on the right asking for a Strawberry. Go downstairs to where there are a bunch of small sheds that you can enter by smashing the door with . The Strawberry is behind the first door on the left. Head back to the Baby Door to find the gem inside.
Act 2-2: Cannibal Carnival
There are no Red Gems in this chapter.
Act 2-3: What A Wonderful World
Red Gem 6
Play through the chapter until you fight some enemies in a courtyard with an Imp trying to douse a Goat Lamp. After this fight, go upstairs and into the building, then jump out the window. Don’t go forward, instead turn right to find this gem in a small nook.
Christopher’s Shop
After the section with the Fireworks Launchers, you will be introduced to Christopher, the shopkeeper. You can buy Red Gems from him with White Gems: 45 on Lemon Hunter, 75 on Demon Hunter and 120 on Legion Hunter. You need 80 Red Gems for all upgrades with only 40 collected in the chapters, meaning if you want to get all upgrades in a single playthrough you will need to buy 40 from Christopher throughout the game (unless you duped Red Gems in the Act 2-1). Because of this you will want to always save your White Gems to buy Red Gems and never buy health/ammo. The total cost for all Red Gems from Christopher is 1,800 (Lemon Hunter), 3,000 (Demon Hunter) and 4,800 (Legion Hunter). With the addition of New Game+ it is not necessary to grind White Gems, as all regular Red Gems will respawn on a second playthrough allowing you to recollect them, however grinding White Gems can save you having to do a partial replay to get what you still need, so it is a matter of preference.
White Gem Farming Method
Shortly after meeting Christopher, you’ll arrive at the graveyard. Here there will be a demon spawner in the darkness with three red cores on it. Until you destroy these cores, it will respawn enemies infinitely. This is the first of three farming locations for White Gems, but is the least efficient as you have to remove the darkness from every enemy before killing them.
Red Gem 7-9
After leaving the graveyard you will enter a large tower, and you will get on a chandelier that you can raise up/down and swing around. During this section you will need to destroy blue crystals while ascending to push back the darkness. In order to get these Red Gems, you must collect all White Gems and kill all enemies during this section. You don’t need the White Gems dropped by the enemies, only those floating in the area. You can take as long as you need during this, so make sure to collect and kill everything here. Enemies will despawn each time you destroy all blue crystals and push back the darkness, so ensure you kill them before destroying the crystals. For the first section there are 2 Imps, the second section there are 4 regular demons, and the third section 4 more Imps. Once you reach the top, 1 Red Gem will spawn for collecting the White Gems and 2 Red Gems will spawn for killing the enemies.
Act 2-4: Riders Of The Lost Heart
There are no Red Gems in this chapter.
Christopher’s Shop

Red Gem 11

Red Gem 12
After the Maras Grim boss fight, you will get the Hot Boner which can shoot bombs with + . You can shoot these bombs to destroy walls. In the next area there’ll be a large wall requiring multiple bombs to destroy, then a small wall on the right you can destroy with one bomb. Destroy the small wall to find this behind it.
Act 3-2: My Dying Concubine
Red Gem 13
Right at the beginning of the chapter you’ll be on the lake shore. Instead of turning right to progress, go left to find a fallen tree that you can destroy with a bomb. Go past the tree for another large wall you can blow up, inside which you’ll find the Red Gem.
Red Gem 14
Progress through the chapter until you arrive at some cages where you’d normally release an Imp to douse a Goat Lamp. Just before this you will see a Red Gem behind some rocks on the left. Go through a gap to grab it.
Red Gem 15
Continue forward until the bridge you’re on breaks and you fall into the lake. You will see Paula flailing in the water to the left, head towards this area and there’ll be a fallen tree you can blow up on a shore to the left. Directly behind this will be the Red Gem.
White Gem Farming Method
While in the lake, enemies will respawn from the water infinitely. This is the second of three farming locations for White Gems, and is better than the first White Gem farming method but still pales in comparison to the third method later.
Red Gem 16
After exiting the lake you will need to open two Baby Gates. After going through the second gate, ignore the cave in front of you and follow the path around to the right to find another large wall you can destroy. Inside will be this Red Gem.
Christopher’s Shop
In the cave at the end of the chapter.

Red Gem 19

Red Gem 22
After crossing the bookshelf bridge at Fifth Circle (Anger), you will arrive at the sign for Sixth Circle (Heresy). Directly to the left of the sign will be this Red Gem.
White Gem Farming Method
In the same room as the previous Red Gem, after killing the first two Imps there will be an armored teleporting demon. If you shoot him with a Light Shot when he jumps backwards after attempting to attack you, you will knock him onto the ground. You can then initiate a stomp attack on him that will never kill him, meaning you can spam for quick gems. This is by far the best White Gem farming method, as you can get a full 999 White Gems in about 5-6 minutes.
Red Gem 23
Head upstairs to Seventh Circle (Violence). Walk through the bookshelves and you’ll find some cracked walls. Behind the second cracked wall are a bunch of crates, in which you will find this Red Gem.
Red Gem 24
In the same area, in a crate behind the third cracked wall.
Red Gem 25
After the Giltine Grim boss fight, enter Eighth Circle (Fraud) where you will find a Sushi Lamp. Light it and follow it until it arrives at the gate. Facing the gate, turn around 180 degrees and strafe walk to the left, then look into the darkness to spot the Red Gem way in the distance. Run all the way down to grab it.

Christopher’s Shop
After going through the door and disabling the Darkness Hand, enter the building up the stairs to find Christopher.
Red Gem 29
Head up the hill towards the church and go behind Christopher’s Shop to find a sealed door and a large wall you can blow up. Destroy the wall and enter the darkness, then destroy the three red cores to unlock the sealed door. Head inside for the Red Gem.
Act 4-6: Justine For All
Red Gem 30
Once again, another autoscroller. In order to get this Red Gem, you must get all 50 White Gems as you move through the area. You will only need to manually collect 41 White Gems, as at the end of the chapter you will automatically get the last 9. If you reach the Justine boss fight without 41 White Gems, immediately quit out and restart the chapter.
Act 5-1: Twelve Feet Under
Red Gem 31
In the area near the beginning with the green forcefield, there is a lone barrel in the alcove next to it. Shoot it to find a Red Gem inside.
Red Gem 32
After lobbing a grenade over the green forcefield to unlock the gate, go through and enter the next room with an enemy with a circular blade. Inside the nook he came out from is a wooden crate, the Red Gem can be found inside.
Red Gem 33
Progress through the chapter until you enter some darkness with a Blindness Hand blocking a Goat Lamp. Head downstairs and break the red cores in the first two rooms, then enter the third room where you have to lob a grenade. There is a lone barrel in here, with the Red Gem inside it.

Red Gem 35
Continue until you’re crossing a platform and darkness covers the area. You will need to light a Goat Lamp on a rotating platform. Afterwards, head down the stairs instead of going through the gate and you’ll find the Red Gem in a nook underneath the previous gate you entered the area through.
Red Gem 36
From the previous gem, head down the next set of stairs to find another Red Gem waiting.
Red Gem 37
Once you reach the next platform that you can rotate, flip it upside down and there’ll be a Red Gem to grab.
Christopher’s Shop
After the last platform you rotate. This is the last shop you will find, so this is your last opportunity to buy Red Gems! If you didn’t get enough White Gems to purchase all of them in one playthrough, then you can get the remaining Red Gems on New Game+.

Red Gem 38
Early into the chapter you will find the Skullblaster Pachinko. To progress you need to destroy two red cores with Skullblaster bombs, but for this Red Gem you will need to kill the two demons as well. If you killed both, the Red Gem will be on the floor past the gate.
Red Gem 39
After going through the darkness, there will be a bone staircase you can climb. Right at the top of it there is a barrel you can destroy with the Red Gem inside.
Red Gem 40
Once you enter the maze, there will be three doorways you can go through. Enter the middle doorway for a cutscene in the garden. Now go through the door on your left to enter a room full of hanging corpses. The last Red Gem can be found inside a barrel here.
Act 5-4: The Final Chapter
There are no Red Gems in this chapter.
Act 5-5: Til Death Do Us Part
There are no Red Gems in this chapter.
At this point, if you haven’t gotten enough Red Gems to purchase all 80 Upgrades, you can start New Game+ on the same difficulty. All Red Gems will spawn again, so you can play through until you have enough to finish getting all upgrades for High in Las Vegas.
