Chapter 9: In Ruins is the ninth section of Valor Mortis and occurs in the Fortress region. This walkthrough will guide you through all collectibles available in the In Ruins section. Everything that’s needed for trophies and 100% completion is included, nothing is missable and you can return to all areas at any time.

Abandoned Church
Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrade #17
Lantern: Abandoned Church
Can now be purchased from Louis at the Abandoned Church for 3000 currency.
Fortress
While progressing through this area there are two main paths that end up leading to the same end point where the boss is.
Amber #46: Fire Breathing
Lantern: Fortress > Main Gate
In the entrance of the Fortress area, defeat the cannon miniboss to receive this Amber.
Amber #47: Life Diverted (Duplicate > Level 3)
Lantern: Fortress > Traverse
Progress until you reach the Traverse Lantern in the second courtyard. Turn around from it and go through the path to the area to the left past the enemies. The building on the opposite side of this area has gold vines inside. Burn them and defeat the enemy that appears from inside the building, then there is a chest at the back wall with this Amber.
Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrade #18
Lantern: Fortress > Traverse
Opposite the building with the last chest, go up the stairs in this area then turn immediately right and the chest is behind some boxes.
Amber #48: Lucky Shot (Duplicate > Level 3)
Lantern: Fortress > Traverse
Go to the back left of this area (toward the entrance to the fortress) and there is a ledge you can drop down leading to a chest with this Amber.
Quintessential Transmutation Material
Lantern: Fortress > Traverse
After lighting both of the signal fires to open the gates near the Traverse Lantern, go through the gate and this is in a chest immediately to the left.
Amber #49: Indestructible Shell (Duplicate > Level 3)
Lantern: Fortress > Traverse
Go down the path left from the Lantern, you will need to avoid the cannon fire in the area. At the end of the path you can go into the small area to the left where there is a chest that contains this Amber.
Quintessential Blade Material
Lantern: Fortress > Chapel
Progress into the underground area until you reach a sewer room with a door on the left side after a pole jump. Go into that area, then at the bottom of the flight of stairs turn right. You will be locked in this room with a bunch of enemies, and at the back is an explosive chest with this material.
Trophy: Bonfire
Lantern: Fortress > Chapel
Opposite this room go down the flight of stairs, then left in the first room to find a sword stuck in the ground. Use Fire Transmutation on it to light it and earn the trophy.
Key Item: Captain’s Key
Lantern: Fortress > Chapel
Opposite this room go down the flight of stairs, then to the room at the end where this is on the ground in the right corner of the room.
Amber #50: Tomorrow’s Promise (Duplicate > Level 3)
Lantern: Fortress > Chapel
Left of the path leading to where the Captain’s Key was located, there is a ladder leading to a long room with a switch door at the far end. Reach this area and there is a chest on the right that contains this Amber.
Key Item: Fortress Armoury Key
Lantern: Fortress > Chapel
Left of the room where the Blade Material was located, go into the tunnels and then on the other side go into the room with the lever door and defeat the enemies. Climb the ladder in this room and on the platform at the top you can find this key.
Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrade #19
Lantern: Fortress > Chapel
Jump across the hanging platforms to get back to the prior area. To the left in this room is the door you use the Fortress Armoury Key on, and in that room is a chest with this upgrade.
Amber #51: Potent Concoction (Duplicate > Level 3)
Lantern: Fortress > Ramparts
From the Lantern go up the stairs and then turn around, where you can see a weak point on the wall across from you. Shoot it to reveal a ladder. Go up the ladder and follow the path through this area to find a chest that contains this Amber near a weak point to shoot to exit the area.
Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrade #20
Lantern: Fortress > Ramparts
From the Lantern go up the stairs to the upper area where the two cannon enemies are. To the right there is a ladder you can climb which leads to the enemies shooting the cannons. To the right near the dead end is a chest with this upgrade.
Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrade #21
Lantern: Fortress > Traverse
From the Traverse Lantern face opposite the area with the cannons and you can use the Captain’s Key to open the building, where inside is a chest with this upgrade.
Amber #52: Potent Concoction (Duplicate > Level 2)
Lantern: Fortress > Courtyard
Progress through hallway that the flag is hanging above, then turn left in the large room to find the monster Eternal Guardsman at the end. Defeat them to receive this Amber.
Quest: The Oathbound – Step #5
Lantern: Fortress > Courtyard
At the end of the area inspect the body to obtain the Oathbound items, Mysterious Stone Pyramid and Bastien Beaufort’s Emblem.
Boss: Nephtis Superioris
